Sad Face

March 30, 2008
It’s chilly today, and overcast and dreary. I have a headache and I am a bit down. I can’t find the right kitten/cat. I miss Kevin. I envy Winston and his kitty. I pushed my children to be independent. Sheltering children does them no good. I am proud of the way Jenn is raising Kevin. I appreciate the way she helps Win. I hope Win appreciates all she does for him.

I am going to try and make this star. I like the way it is off kilter—kind of like me.

I felt like I needed to accomplish something today so I started reknitting socks. They are able two inches too long. I don’t know if I was planning to give them to somebody with big feet or I had been drinking too much coffee.

OK. I feel better now. I am going to go cut some fabric into tiny pieces.

Mystery Quilt

March 25, 2008
I pulled out a ton of fabric today trying to decide what colors I’m going to use for the mystery quilt. Thankfully, several people have put up photos of their selections. One big problem I have is is a lack of darks. I can definitely do the brights and evens the lights. I refuse to buy anymore fabric. If it looks strange, so be it. I’ll post a picture when I have made up my mind, maybe tomorrow.

We made it to Goodwill today. We really filled up the car. We got rid of most of our work clothing and some lamps and chairs. I left the blankets and towels in the car. I’ll take them to the animal shelter next time I’m in the area.

I am really getting behind on my blog reading for several days now. There seems to be so many other things I want to do. My site needs a little cleaning, too. The baby gift is almost done. I just might put in a picture anyway. I really like it and it’s made out of my favorite yarn.

Gotta Go

March 13, 2008

It’s time to cross the pond once more. It’s sunny this morning, so it should be pretty driving over the bay. I’m still not awake. Doug snored off and on last night and kept me up. I hope to be back before Sunday afternoon so that I can go to knitting group. No sewing club again this month. They always manage to pick a day when I am not around. Are they trying to tell me something?

Hair Color

March 13, 2008
Since my crazy ex-girlfriend disowned me, I have not been able to get hair color that I can use, so I have decided to stop for now. It will interesting to see how grey I have become. My husband has been thoroughly white for years(and it’s really thin, too) so I still won’t look like an old lady. I have been able to find just about everything but hair color here that has not been animal tested so I guess I can live with grey hair.

I started on a sweater for me last night. I started on a sleeve. That way I don’t have so much to tear out if I don’t like it. I like it so far. Doug wants me to do one with stars.

Pretty, huh?

I did some quilting today. It is so different from dressmaking. You have to be so precise and I like to just wing it. I need to sew, but I don’t need any more clothes. I never would have thought that I would ever say such a thing. I am hoping that I will get this quilting thing down.

Ready to sew together.

It’s kind of lumpy.

The borders are on. Now I have to cut out and applique the hearts. That’s my favorite part. I like to embellish. I also want to embroider a label. I think I have a cat one somewhere. I may also embroider some more hearts and flowers. And, to think, I actually managed to take all these pictures without any cats.

The Gloves are Finished

March 6, 2008

They only took one skein of yarn. I can still make a pair for me, too. They will be going out to Nancy as soon as we find an envelope to put them in. It’s weird how one looks bigger than the other.

If Christine’s mittens are too big, she can always wear them the next time she does the dishes. A little scrubbing in some hot soapy water will do the trick. Then leave them on until they are dry and they should be just right.

We sat out on the deck for a while this afternoon. I worked on the other baby gift. If anyone wants to see it, leave me your email and I’ll send a picture.

Maude was busy doing her job. “Catch those voles, Maude! Good girl!”

I worked on my website a little last night. I did it all by myself with no ‘help’ from anyone and now my blogroll actually works. Who knows what I will tackle next.

Another One

March 4, 2008
Doug got out the lawn chairs (two of them anyway) and we sat out on the deck this afternoon. We were joined by Elvis, Gus and Maude. Zip was busy. I was tired after our walk so I happily knit. It was so windy this morning that we decided to go through the woods to get away from it which was stupid. I’m not too good at clomping through underbrush yet. I was pooped when we got home. When we went to Walmart later in the afternoon, I couldn’t help but notice how much easier it is to walk around than it was last year. There are times when I REALLY don’t want to go for a walk, but I know it’s good for my hip and me all over.I had no idea that there were cities that do not allow clotheslines. It makes no sense. I know there are housing associations that don’t allow it. When our son was little, we were thinking about moving to a younger neighborhood. We found a house that we really liked. We were about a hand over a check to hold it when we found out that we could not put up a clothes or a fence. That took care of that. I had a fit with the realtor. She tried to talk around it, but that check never left our hands and we never moved either.I was happily knitting along last night, when I saw a missed stitch several rows down. I pulled out stitches to fix it. When I got down there, I realized I had pulled out the wrong one so I had to pull out two sets of stitches.

Looks awful, doesn’t it?

Here I took a needle and picked up every other row to help keep track of which row I was on.

Here I am crocheting the stitches up the rows.

You can’t even tell.

Knitting Day

March 3, 2008
I woke up early this morning and I thought I might actually get something done. I was reading and knitting when I realized that knitting group was this afternoon. I was such a grunge that I had to shower and wash my hair. So, I didn’t go for a walk. I stopped on the way to look at some kitties, but didn’t see anything. I did get the names of two more places. One was a cat sanctuary not far from where I live. I will have to call first. I hope they are not too weird. Some places are so much of a pain in the ass that it’s not worth it. So, I had a nice time at knitting, but I may have to do a little unknitting later. I have helping two different people and I seem to have zigged when I should have zagged. I can’t show you. It’s a surprise.

I bought this yarn at MD Sheep & Wool last May and I have no idea what I was planning to do with it. I believe at the time I had something in mind, but now I am clueless.

Sock Club

February 29, 2008
Yesterday, we had a nice long walk, but today it was too cold and windy to go very far. When I got to end of the street, the wind got worse and I headed home. Doug said he was going to walk on, but he was back about five minutes later. On the way out, we noticed a package in the mailbox. I think he just wanted to see what was in the package. Well, it was for me. I had joined a four times a year sock club which is about all the socks I care to knit in a year.

The yarn feels wonderfully soft. It’s merino with some bamboo and nylon. I could make a whole sweater in this stuff. I like the pattern, too. I got it from TheKnitter.com. Now, the problem is—Should this be my next project? I am almost finished the mittens and I have started on the second glove. And I still have one other thing to make. The baby quilt will be finished this evening and I should have a picture tomorrow.

If Zip lets me.

See that little path in my yard? My cats did that the first time it snowed and it’s still there! How could such cute little kitties do such a thing?

Don’t believe anything she says.

One Glove is Done

February 26, 2008

I’m working on the second mitten.

I have been looking at quilt patterns. I want to cover my dining room table with a quilted top to help protect it from the cats, especially Zip. He is always in trouble with his “Gotta love me” attitude. I have several ideas, but I need to finish the baby quilt first. I still haven’t put the binding on. I have the fabric. It will either be reds, whites and blacks or pinks and greens. I think I’ll drag out the fabric tomorrow and lay it all out. I am also debating on whether some applique would be good or bad. I really enjoy applique, but maybe not with cats running across it.

I was thinking about making one of these for my Sacred Wiener Dog.

Blog Reading is Evil

February 25, 2008
I was happily reading blogs this morning. I was minding my own business. I was just looking at what other knitters were making when it I saw it. It was something that I had never seen before. Can this be possible? I am too old for something NEW AND WONDERFUL. Be still my beating heart! Fortunately, I have a good heart. And, of course, my favorite store had it. RATS! And it was less than $80. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY! I think. And I am not telling. You will have to wait and see. But, this may be the big thing that I have been wanting to make.

We had a very nice walk this morning. It was cold, but sunny. The horses all came over looking for treats. We give them what the owners recommend and only one per horse per day. Gus loves them, too. Doug always has some little pieces in his pocket for him. The blackbirds have been passing through for the last week or so. There are so many that they sound like the wind when they pass over.

Gus likes to scare the geese. They are guarding the island so they are always around now.
