Red Bellied Woodpecker

January 26, 2020

No female yet, but I can hope.  I’ve seen one in past years.

I’m so glad I moved the suet feeder.

Not A Good Week

January 23, 2020

When it’s freezing outside for several days, I just want to hibernate.  I must have been a grizzly bear in my last life.  Sweetums almost had to drag me out of the house to walk the dog.

I finally knitted a nice bow for Mrs. Tittlemouse that I like, but I don’t feel like sewing it up and stuffing it.  I got out my dinosaur mittens pattern and found some good little boy yarn.  And there’s enough for a hat, too.  I felt a lot better after making (and finishing) this hat! I still have to make those mittens!

48 hrs Post Surgery

January 18, 2020

Due to my “fragile” skin, I had to leave the bandages on for 48 hours rather than the standard 24. I decided 48 hours meant when I entered hospital.  Sweetums thought after surgery, but his arm wasn’t going insane.  He let me use his eczema cream.  My skin feels so much better now. There is no bleeding and no warmer than the rest of me.  My hand still looks fat, but one knuckle is starting to show.

By the way, what happened to the snow?

Downy Woodpeckers

January 15, 2020

I finally got pictures of both Downys.  While the female was eating, the male was watching from the roof.

I’m off to get my arm cut on tomorrow.  I don’t have to be there until 11:15 so I can get a good shower and hair wash beforehand.  Since we are five minutes away, Sweetums doesn’t have to stay there and dwindle his thumbs.

Buzzards

January 13, 2020

This was definitely one of those days that I was glad the neighbors put up a fence.

For some reason, I saw no other birds until after they left.

Busy Days

January 10, 2020

I am having surgery next Thursday on my left arm.  As usual these days, there is a lot to do beforehand.  There’s blood work and chest x-ray for the surgeon. My GP wants an echocardiogram because I’ve had a little cough for over a month and he heard a murmur.  It wasn’t there in October.  It’s probably allergies.  It may not be anything, but we have to check.  Ugh.  At least I don’t have to remove my toenail polish this time.

I have to do things for myself also.  Normally, I would be getting my hair next Friday.  Not a good idea, so I’m going tomorrow.  Sweetums suggested waiting a week, but my hair is in my eyes and I can’t stand it.  Maybe I’ll change the color.  Maybe something more edgy.

Tiny Basket

January 6, 2020

I am trying to knit Mrs. Tittlemouse from Beatrix Potter.  I think Alan Dart has made every character except her.  Unfortunately she is my daughter’s favorite, so I am trying to use others like Hunka Punka to make her.  I couldn’t find a basket I liked so I came up with this one.  It seemed to need something so I knitted a little napkin.  It is leaning against my laptop glasses for size.

Alan Dart’s The Owl and The Pussy Cat

January 5, 2020

I was going to take pictures of my new hats out on the deck, but it is too cold and windy today.  There’s not much happening outside.  I’ve only seen a few vultures circle high above the  creek so the little birds are hiding in my bushes.  I can see a few white caps where the creek meets the river.

I had a great time making these.  It was definitely a labor of love.  I gave it to my daughter and son-in-law for their first anniversary.  And I already know what I’m going to knit next year.

New Kitty, New Windows, New Knee, Same Old Sweetums

January 4, 2020

I wasn’t going to bother with this anymore, but a few people actually asked about it.  We will see how it goes.  Now.  Where do I start?

Most of our windows were fifty years old and needed replacement.  They were done in three stages. The last was a few days before knee surgery.  I didn’t know they were coming in time and I got a migraine.  Luckily my medication was not on the forbidden list, but it still took two days to work.  The surgery was worth it.  I don’t have that awful deep pain that completely incapacitated me and I don’t have to take any drugs for it. That included a ton of laxatives.

Here’s our new kitty, Tony, sitting in my new kitchen window.

It is bigger than the old window and one piece of glass.  We bought this house in 2002 and never opened that window.  I could do without mullions, but you can’t have everything.  The cats like the new ledge.  They “chitter” to the birds.  More tomorrow.  Well, maybe.  I’m making Shepherd’s pie tonight.
