Spring At Last!

February 24, 2014

Yea.  I know.  It’s not even March yet.  How can it be Spring?  Simple.  Yesterday, at 3:07PM, I signed up for classes at MD Sheep & Wool.  To me, that means that Spring is right around the corner.  Sooooo.  Today is the first day of Spring.  And I don’t care that it’s twenty degrees colder today than it was yesterday.  Or, that it’s supposed to snow Tuesday or Wednesday.  I’m taking three day long classes with one of my favorite designers, Beth Brown-Reisel.  I’m so happy!  Smiley face!

The sign-up time was 2PM, but I kind of forgot until 2:30.  I decided to use my new-to-me laptop.  When I finally found the website, I didn’t see any place to go to on-line application.  Did I panic?  Well, of course.  My first thought was that everything was already filled.  NOooo.  Fortunately, I said to myself, that can’t be right.  I walked off, then came back.  And there was the application icon.  Happy.  Joy.  It was 3:04.  Interesting.  When I finished, the time on the application website said 3:07 and the time on MDS&W said 2:07.  I assume the company is in another time zone.  Or maybe, the one who was supposed to push the button at 2PM fell asleep.

Cat Blankets

February 21, 2014

I had no idea that I had so many!

022114 011  Olive loves the entrelac baby blanket.

022114 009  Sweet Baby Rue with his old shale blankie.  He likes to make dough on it and purr.

022114 008  Flo is a bit greedy and commandeers two of my favorite sweaters.

021814 007  And here is Sheena Warrior Princess upon her wool hat throne.

The Pieces are Complete

February 13, 2014

021314 008  Dot has been working hard at pinning down the pieces.  She holds the T pins between her toes and pushes them in place with her nose.  She is very talented.   She  does, however, require a full pot of coffee in order to complete this task within a reasonable about of time.

0123914   021314 012  As you can see, she is very good.  What would I do without her?  She even knew to block the back and fronts first.  I’ll be able to work on the collar and button bands while the sleeves are still drying.  With this cold wet weather, it’s taking two days.

Cozy Country Knits

I’ve been wanting to knit myself a sweater from this book.  Now that I’ve completed all my mandates, I can make something for me.  The yarn I chose is a silk wool blend, loose single ply and slightly thicker than worsted weight.  I had to go up one size needle to get gauge.  Oddly, I don’t have much in a size ten.  I had to settle for a much longer needle than I would have liked.  If it weren’t Winter, I probably would have gone shopping.  Sometimes, I like to knit on big needles.

A Soup Day

February 5, 2014

I finally decide that I must sit down and say something and the internet keeps coming and going.  Why?  It may be this older than dirt laptop.  The desktop is fine.  But I like  sitting in the corner with my laptop.  And I like being able to look out at the creek.

20140108_083750  I am glad that the ice is gone.

So I decided to make hamburger soup.  I found mushrooms, carrots, celery, onions, corn and, of course, ground beef in the refrigerator.  I got out the barley, cans of diced tomatoes and Rotell, Worcestershire, basil, garlic, and what ever else looked good.  Currently, it is bubbling nicely and in about half an hour, I’ll throw in the barley and corn.  If Sweetums doesn’t think to ask for biscuits, I’m all set.
