Happy Harry’s/Walgreens

July 31, 2008

I decided to try the new Happy Harry’s for a prescription and looked around the place while I was there.  I bought shampoo, conditioner and hand cream in the store brand that actually said “not tested on animals”.  I think I am going to like this store.  I should have looked for deodorant, but I was so excited with all that I found that I forgot all about  it.  Another senior moment.

The quilt back is coming along.  I have several four inch strips that I am sew to the panels I made.  I think I will also sew a row down the middle.  Maybe I will get to quilting it next week.  I worked on the socks, too.  One inch to go and I will be weaving in the ends.  Then I can start on the Scottish Sanquhar gloves.  I can’t decide on which two colors to use.  What do you think?

A Little Knitting

July 30, 2008

Some days I can’t seem to get anything done.  Today was definitely one of them.  I really should have made some phone calls.  Things need to be straightened out.  But I didn’t.  I did some emailing and got some.  That part was fun, but I had real work to do.  It never happened.  Instead, I started digging through yarn.  I don’t need to do this until October and I didn’t find what I wanted anyway.  I found something else, though.  After knitting a few rows on the socks I took the other yarn and ran it through the ball winder.  Stupid.  Those socks are almost done.

Free Socks for Autumn

It was so nice this afternoon that I spent a fair amount of time knitting on the blue socks.  I need to know the size to finish them.  Would you please contact me, Autumn?

A Gold Star to Chris and Nancy

I am so lousy with names.  How do people remember all of them.  Linda can name every plant, bush, flower, tree, etc. in the neighborhood.  It’s disgusting.  I get as far as “daisy-like” if you know what I mean.  My grandfather would be so disappointed in me and he was such a sweet old guy.  Sorry, Pop.

Here they are finally starting to bloom.  I’m hoping for more colors.  White is kind of boring.

The tuckahue is starting to die off.  The ducks and geese babies are pretty big now and don’t need it for protection any more.  It’s interesting that comes up shortly before the babies start to hatch and dies when they are big enough to take care of themselves.  God knows what he is doing.

Kevin Eleven

Kevin 14

Kevin 14

I can’t call him that anymore.  It was fun when he was little, but now he is 14.  Gad.  My grandson in 14 years old.  No wonder I need false teeth.   I added this picture the next day.  He gets his good looks from his Mother.

Kevin was at Boy Scout camp this past week.  It’s about 15 miles from here and Jenn had to work this morning, so we picked him up.  I opened the back of the van so he could put his stuff in and asked if he had his blue cards.  He needs them to get his badges.  “Yes.  I got my blue cards” he said in the typical monotone of a teenager.  Jenn told me about three times this past week to ask him.  I even told Doug in case I forgot.  I got a call around 10PM.  Kevin couldn’t find his blue cards.  Could I look around?  He had gotten his duffle bag out to get a shower while here and knew the envelope was in the bag at that time.  I opened the back of the van and there it was.  It’s nice to know he is carrying on in his mother’s footsteps.

I took a few pictures of Kevin this afternoon using my new camera.  I haven’t downloaded them yet.  I need to install the software.  I read some of the manual and started playing around with it.  Today was a nice sunny day, a good day for taking pictures.  I am surprised at how light this one is.  It’s easier to hold so I may try taking it down to the horse farm with me.  I think I got some nice pictures of the cats.  I don’t think Gus likes to get his taken.  He keeps showing me his butt or he sticks his nose on the camera and I am pretty tired of dog nose pictures.

I made Chocolate Banana Cake this afternoon.  It was in joyofbaking. com.  I had two bananas that I knew were not going to be eaten and I all ready have three in the freezer.  I wanted to try something different.  The cake is unbelievably good.  The frosting consists of bittersweet chocolate, heavy cream and butter and is also delicious.  It goes in a 9X13 pan which I prefer to layer cakes except Raisin Walnut Spice Cake.  I got out a 9X9 pan and froze half of it.  I know we’ll never get all that eaten before we get sick of it.

I did some sewing while the cakes was cooking.  I am making four of these, but I haven’t decided what to do next.  I gave Jenn the camera case.  She REALLY liked it.

Day 3

July 26, 2008

The antibiotics have kicked in so I’m spending a lot of time on the toilet.  Oh, well.  It beats getting an infection.  The last infection took four different drugs and nearly two months to get rid of it.  I’m a bit tired so not much got done today.  I was thinking about some place mats.  I saw some with flowers that held napkins in little pots.  I got most of the fabric out, but that’s as far as it got.

I finished the heel on the second blue sock.  I don’t guess anybody but one has anything they would like to trade for the pair.  I will even include the rest of the yarn and something else to be determined at a later date.

Day 2 of My New Teeth

July 25, 2008

I was going to post a picture, but I thought that may be a bit too gross.  The uppers are doing good.  The bottoms are so-so.  The bleeding has stopped which is great because it would pool under my tongue and I’m not supposed to spit.  So I lean over the sink and let it drain out.  Wait a minute.  That’s kind of gross, too, ain’t it?  I thought of sitting in front of Doug and letting it ooze out my mouth and watch his reaction, but he is so squeamish that I was afraid he would faint.  It sounded like great fun, but he would be pissed and he might hit his head.  So, I seem to have a sore place where my only three good teeth were located.  The dentist said it probably would be and he was right.  I have some stuff to put on it if I absolutely must, but tonight I get to take them out all night.  Big whoop.  I’ll see how it feels tomorrow.  I am getting used to eating with these things.  It only took me one hour to eat two soggy pieces of French toast and fifteen minutes to eat half a banana.  And you can forget the fresh peaches and blueberries I bought.   I got out some ground sirloin for supper.  Normally, I would make burgers, but not tonight.

I got new stuff today.  The Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric finally came.  It will make some child very happy.  The fabric is good quality.  I need to get it washed one day soon.  I wash all my fabric before sewing to get rid of the smell.  It gives me a headache.

And, my new camera came!  Yeah!  The battery is charging so maybe tomorrow I can play with it.

The Rest are Gone

July 23, 2008

I am glad, but I’m drooling and the blood leaks out of my mouth when I least expect it.  I’m hungry, but there is no reason to eat when it just falls out.  That’s what happens when you can’t feel your tongue or lips.  I’m tired, but not sleepy.  I guess I’ll watch TV.

I’m Alive

July 23, 2008

Things went well today.  I had a dozen teeth pulled and a new upper plate put in.  Tomorrow, I go back for lower teeth.  I was very nervous, but everyone was so great that I managed to live through it.  I’ve worn a partial upper for about forty years so this full one isn’t so bad.  And it’s nice to look decent again.  I knew I would be all right when I woke up this morning.  In the past, I always had nightmares the night before going to the dentist.  I have to go back every few weeks for six months, then I should get permanent ones.  These temporary ones look so good, I can’t imagine permanent ones looking any better.  I only have six to get pulled tomorrow.  Piece of cake.

I’m Getting a New Camera

July 22, 2008

Yeah, I know.  Didn’t I just get a new camera?  I lent my son my new camera to take to convention with him.  No.  Nothing happened to it.  So, Doug starts looking for a newer and better camera.  He makes me crazy.  He found one and talked me into letting him get it.  This one is actually new in the box with a goodie kit.  Cost is about $300.  I said I just paid more than that for Stitches classes.  He said he would pay for it and I could pay him back in time.  Well.  We’ll see about that.

The second blue sock is coming along.  I am starting the heel.  Next, I’m going to make the Scottish gloves.  The needles that I need were actually where I thought they would be.  I looked almost everywhere for the yarn, but had no luck.  I did, however, find something else that I like.  I’ll look some more another time.

Tomorrow morning, I’ve got to get up around 6AM and do something I really don’t want to do.   I’m hoping I’ll be well into it by the time I wake up.
