You can see how low the tide is by looking at the bulkhead.  We laughed ourselves silly.

No Pix Today

July 29, 2009

My recharger died on this thing.  Doug ordered a new one, but I’ve all ready used up one battery.  And I have some good pictures, too—- like the two idiots who tried to come up the creek at low tide.  I’m sure they heard us laughing at them.  I didn’t realize I had become so accustomed to this laptop.

Mitered Hat

July 27, 2009

I hadn’t done any mitered squares for long while.  I forgot how much fun they were.

Zip has changed over the past few weeks.  Don’t worry.  It’s for the better.  A couple of whole male cats had been coming around and marking .  It really upset him.  He hadn’t been himself snce Elvis , and now there are new little girls to watch over.  He started staying out all night and the other males have stopped coming around.  Zip is a lot happier and is enjoying being a new father.

I went further and added a little edge and one button.  Are they too much?

See the  little green diamond?  I’ve all ready started a mitered hat.  I hope I have enough yarn.

Loralie is having a sale so I indulged.  I am going to have so much fun!  I don’t know where to start.

Here’s Gus, waiting for his pills.  He is so good.  Even though he hates having pills shoved down his throat, he will come and sit in front of me and wait.  And,of course he gets a treat when we’re through.

Foggy Morning

July 23, 2009

072209 001You don’t see this much in the summer.

I had my annual visit to the ophthalmologist this morning.  My doctor retired recently so I tried the new guy.  He seems a decent sort.  He was efficient.

When I was four, my brother hit me in the eye with a slingshot.  We wound up at Hopkins very late at night.  I remember having a drop of blood rolling around my eye.  It was making my mother sick  so I tilted my head whenever she was looking at me.  I developed a cataract from it.  I’ll have to get it removed eventually.  Barf.

I was thinking about getting red frames, but I got violet instead.  My insurance allows me to get a free pair every year which is good because my prescription is always changing.  And I like variety.

I stopped at Mernie’s on the way home and bought fresh corn and peaches.  The corn was delicious.  Doug ate four ears and I had two.  It is so nice to be able to eat corn on the cob again.  Which reminds me.  I need to see the dentist soon.  Cora tried to peel a peach, but she didn’t do a very good job.  I told her to stick to purring.

When I got home, I couldn’t go out because my pupils were still dilated.  So I sat down and FINALLY finished writing my hat pattern.  I have been so lazy this summer, it is down right embarrassing.

Girlie Cuffed Socks

072009 013These socks have been so much fun to make.

Laurel Pizzeria

July 19, 2009

We went there for a pizza to see how it was.  We got the house special and added anchovies.  I have to have anchovies.  Don’t take me out for pizza to any pizzeria that doesn’t have anchovies.

The pizza was very good.  The cheese was especially good and there was plenty of it.   There was plenty of everything.  We really enjoyed it.  The only thing I didn’t like was the background music.  It was a too loud Frank Sinatra record.  A little variety would have been nice.

Thursday and Friday were hot and humid so we put the air conditioning on.  Today was so nice we turned it off when the sun went down.  It is supposed to be in the 50s overnight.  Good sleeping weather.

I had to take Gus to the vet on Thursday.  His ears were bothering him.  He has two pills to take twice a day, an ear wash and ear drops.  I have to shove the pills down his throat.  He will come to me even though he knows what I am going to do.  Maybe it’s because he knows he will get a treat afterwards.  He really is a good boy about it.

Many years ago, I had a shepherd-husky mix that ate anything I put in his bowl.  I would  just toss the pills in his bowl and he’d eat them.  I could also toss them in his general direction and he’d catch them and swallow them down.  One evening when I was pregnant, I dropped a prenatal vitamin.  He swallowed it and he was up all night.  I was up a lot anyway to use the toilet and I could hear him pacing downstairs.

At the Beach

July 16, 2009

I went down to my daughter’s trailer to take Keven his birthday presents and enjoy the beach.  It was a beautiful day and we had fun.  I brought home some crabs that I need to pick for crab cakes.  I may freeze it for next week when my son comes.

I Changed my Mind

July 14, 2009

I worked the 44 rows for the leg of the socks.  I looked at it.  I left it laying out.  Then I took it apart.

071109 010So, I started another sock.  It’s from More Big Girl Knits.  This is the cuff.

Opera Gloves are Finished

July 12, 2009

I am happy with them, but I don’t think I used the best yarn for the pattern.  The only trouble is—–they look GREAT!  So what do you do?

I started making socks.  I decided on Hypnosis from The Eclectic Sole.  The Mini Moochi is a wonderfully soft yarn, but I worry about durability.  You can’t have everything.

071109 009I took off the first thumb I made and did a matching color.  You can’t even tell where I picked up the stitches and knit in the opposite direction.  I like the yellow finger.

071109 001I thought about putting the thumb I removed onto the other glove, but decided it wasn’t worth the effort.

If your arms are not model skinny, I would suggest adding more increases.  I added three sets for a total of twelve stitches.  I made the first two increases where they are on the pattern, then I switched to every seventh row.  They fit perfectly.
