Bronchitis Sucks

May 26, 2017

I am currently on my second course of medication for bronchitis.  I am completely wiped out.  About all I have accomplished is sock knitting .  I have not worked on my quilt at all!  I can’t stand it!  I need to block my new sweater!  Sweetums needs some shirts fixed!  I want to make myself a new summer dress!  I want to bake something delicious!

Here’s a little something I did before I got sick.  My favorite tote was falling apart.  The orange fabric is new.  It also, now, has a strong bottom.

A New Bathroom

February 13, 2016

My little bathroom has needed a complete overhaul for quite some time.  The double sink and the tiny fiberglass shower had to go.  Then the toilet went.  There was nothing wrong with it, but Sweetums wanted a high toilet.  And, well, it’s really nice.  It fits nicely where the old shower used to be.

The new shower is absolutely perfect!  We are so fortunate to have a home improvement guy for a friend and neighbor.

I love having two shower heads and being able to sit and shave my legs.  The floor consists of flat pebbles that really feel good on my feet.  The walls are going to be raspberry sherbet.  Now I must shop for towels and rugs.

I’m Busy

November 30, 2015

It amazes how quickly the days pass when you’re busy.   I was in a rut and I needed, wanted to get out.  The past few months were fairly disastrous  for me.  I was better, but I needed more.  So I asked my rheumatologist if I could get physical therapy.  So now I am off to PT three times a week for six weeks.  I am starting to feel better and I even exercise on my off days.

I couldn’t believe all the work I accomplished today which included baking anise cookies.  My house smell wonderful!

Here’s the gloves I made for a friend of mine.  There are three because she will still have two to wear when she gets a hole.  She needs them for her job.

I made Sweetums some rolls for breakfast.

Next project: a draft dodger for my daughter’s side door.

See you Soon.

Apple Pie and Hallowe’en Socks

October 17, 2015

Last week, I crossed the bridge to visit my children.  It was also an opportunity to buy apples for pie and shop.

I have decided to use Velcro rather than buttons for my raincoat.  I seem to have every color but yellow.   Well, so did the stores.  After three stores, I decided to go with pink with white hearts.  If it’s going to show, it might as well stand out, n’est pas?  The raincoat is coming along nicely.  The pattern is whole written with lots of  diagrams.  I can’t wait to show it.  Of course, now we’ll probably have a drought.

My first pie of the season is in the oven.  I can hardly wait.  Do I have pie with supper or for supper?

No. I did not cheat!  I knit mostly at night and trying to pick up stitches along the sides in black was giving me a headache.  So, I decided, one was enough.  It’s not the first time my socks haven’t matched.  It’s more like the tenth or twelfth time.  When knitting the second sock, I purled the black whenever there was two rows to help it stand out.  I did Partridge stitch heels using both yarns.  It’s a great look.

Finally! Dress is Finished

September 17, 2015

window babs dress 005I feel that I spent entirely too much time on this dress.  It sat for a few days because I couldn’t comfortably sit at my sewing table.  Also, I had to tweak it. I’m too big in some places and too small in others.  At least now I know what to do next time.  And the best part.  There are no buttons or buttonholes, no zipper, no hand sewing.  So it’s on to my raincoat.  Well.  No.  I have to make my little wall hanging for October.  Then it’s on to my raincoat.

I went to get my stitches out this morning, but doctor said no.  Now I have to wait until Monday.  He also wanted blood work and chest x-rays.  While out, I stopped at the Amish market and loaded up.  Sweetums’ eyes glazed over when he saw the bags.  He is such a Sweetums.

A New Collar for the Pup

June 13, 2015

gus 001  The latch broke.  I can’t complain.  The old one was over ten years old.  Actually, it’s a blessing.  I noticed his name tag was too worn down to read.  Now he has a new collar and tag in case he gets lost.  He’s a little tired now.  He had to show it off to all his friends.  He thinks he’s beautiful.

My projects have not been going smoothly this past week.  I’m not certain whether I had three migraine headaches or a three-day migraine headache.  My head was so full of mush.

Fiddly Stuff

June 8, 2015

pocket 001  I’ve mended nighties.  I’ve taken in skirts and pants.  I’ve added pockets where there were none.  I don’t know about you, but I have got to have phone pockets.

Now that that is over, it’s time for real sewing.  Since one nightie was tossed, I need another.  After digging through my stash, I came up with some insipid pink that I have no idea from where it came.  It is cotton, two yards long and 68 inches wide.  It’ll do.  Maybe I’ll put some embroidery on it.  And, yeah, it’ll have pockets.

What’s for Supper?

August 9, 2014

I can’t stand it when Sweetums says it, especially when I am grumpier than normal.

So.  Anyway.  I had this pound of ground beef. It’s what I get when nothing else appeals to me.  I looked through the kitchen cabinets and at some recipes.  I chopped some onion, threw it with the meat in a pan to brown.  I boiled some noodles.  So far so good.

Then it time to pull stuff out of the cabinets and refrigerator.

All Sweetums approved stuff.  You do know he’s from Oklahoma, right?

supper 006

OK.  So it was too much stuff.  I had to get out the pan that is so big, it has two handles.  But doesn’t it look good?  And it was.  I told Sweetums, “I won’t have to cook for a week!”  And gave him a big smile.
