Almost Time for Maryland Sheep and Wool

May 3, 2011

I’m taking Komi knitting patterns class on Thursday and fancy heels on Friday morning.  I have found suitable yarn and needles for my classes without having to buy anything.  I have very few needles in the sizes indicated, but what I found will do.  Most of my needles are smaller(for socks and gloves) or bigger(for sweaters). The same goes for my yarn— a lot of fine and heavy with little in between.  Also, finding white or beige was impossible.  Yellow will have to do.  I’m just not a white or beige person.

Here’s the blue sock.  Not bad for two days.  I’m almost to the hell.  I’ll have to play around with it a bit since there are an odd number of repeats.  The swirls can get confusing.  Next, it’s on to Sock That Rock kits or maybe not.  I need more cotton socks for summer.

I finally remembered to reply to the comment I received on Rue last week.  Have a look.  I really liked it.

Like Father, like son.

Out all night AGAIN!  No wonder she can’t keep her eyes open.  She has only spent the night inside twice in the last ten.

Mermaid Hat is Finished

I am very happy with the results.  I was a little worried about the decreases.  Basically, I followed Lucy Neatby’s instructions for the sock toe, but with several more repeats.  It wasn’t hard at all.  On the last row, I kept knitting two together until there were four stitches left.  Then, I made a short I-cord.  I’ve already started a little scarf.  I’m still fooling around with it.  The diagonal stripes should be on both sides of the scarf.  That’s the problem!

I signed up for two classes at MD Sheep & Wool.  Now, it’s ‘wait and see’ if I get in or not.  I had forgotten to look earlier.  I had to print out the application and MAIL it in with TWO CHECKS.  Jeez!

Saturday at Sheep and Wool

May 6, 2010

You know, my feet are still tired.  I feel like I pulled a muscle in the left one.  It didn’t keep me from taking my dog for a walk.  It was so beautiful on the river this morning.  I sat on the pier for  while, then found a place where Gus could wade and get a drink.  I love living here.  Now, if I just had a bathtub like the one at the other house, life would be perfect.

OK.  I guess you want to see what I bought.  Some venders have moved, but, since I would be looking at everything anyway, I did eventually find the ones that I wanted.   It was promising to be a very warm, sunny day so I did the outside booths first.  The Tess booth was packed with yarn and people.  I didn’t see the color and type of yarn I wanted so I got out as quickly as I could.   I found what I was looking for at Creatively Dyed Yarns.  What delicious yarn!  It was all I could do to keep focused.

The top I bought on Sunday. I’ll discuss that later.    Look at the bottom skein.  I love the shading and little flecks of color.  it was a little more expensive than I like, but the label said 5.3 oz.  and when weighed, it was 6.5 oz–enough for socks AND gloves.

I’ve been wanting to make Coraline gloves.  I found a pattern, but they were worsted weight and I wanted lighter.  I finally found a picture of the actual gloves from the movie which is all I really need.  I found this yarn in the first barn and it was cheap, too.  The company is called Made By Ewe and they are on Etsy.  The yarn is DK and I wanted fingering, but I bought it anyway.  Like I said, it was cheap and it has a nice feel.

Before I forget— Hey, Betty.  I found your needles.

Next thing on my list was a chocolate waffle ice cream cone.  They are really good here.  While waiting in line, someone I haven’t seen in about 10 years came up tp me.  We got our cones and found a place to sit.  We talked for nearly an hour.

I Am So Tired!

May 2, 2010

Friday, it was lunch with the girls.  We had a great time.  It was only four of us this time which is a good number in a busy restaurant.  Carol STILL hasn’t gotten a hip replacement!  We all bug her about it.  Rehab is a pain in the butt, but it’s all worth it in the end.  I want to send an enormous congrats to Suzette and her husband.  They have been non-smokers for a whole year!

Why am I so tired?  Maryland Sheep  and Wool.  During the week we had 60’s and 70’s, which is normal.  As a matter of fact, it was too chilly to sit out on the deck for any length of time.  I think it got up 90 yesterday.  Today, as long as it was overcast, it was tolerable.  But when the sun came out in full, it was unbelievable.

Yesterday, I had a rest in the back of my van.  I had chats with several people and I always run into someone I haven’t seen in a while.  One nice lady even took my picture.

Are my toenails too orange?  It’s my second favorite color.  I toyed with walking around in the afternoon like this, but, then, I started thinking about dust and stones so I put on my white cotton Buster Brown socks.  And, yes.  You can still buy them.

It’s a good thing I came early.  More on Sheep and Wool tomorrow(or the next day).  I haven’t decided if I’m going home tonight or tomorrow morning.  I’m really tired and I really love the big old bathtub here.

Knitting Day

March 3, 2008
I woke up early this morning and I thought I might actually get something done. I was reading and knitting when I realized that knitting group was this afternoon. I was such a grunge that I had to shower and wash my hair. So, I didn’t go for a walk. I stopped on the way to look at some kitties, but didn’t see anything. I did get the names of two more places. One was a cat sanctuary not far from where I live. I will have to call first. I hope they are not too weird. Some places are so much of a pain in the ass that it’s not worth it. So, I had a nice time at knitting, but I may have to do a little unknitting later. I have helping two different people and I seem to have zigged when I should have zagged. I can’t show you. It’s a surprise.

I bought this yarn at MD Sheep & Wool last May and I have no idea what I was planning to do with it. I believe at the time I had something in mind, but now I am clueless.
