Too Cold Blue Entrelac hat

January 21, 2008
My new blue hat doesn’t come down far enough for this cold weather. It kept creeping up my ears while I was out this morning with Gus. I have such little ears that they just might freeze and fall off. Then, where would I be? I’m going to take it apart to the beginning of the decrease row and put in another row of sloping squares. I’m glad that I made this decision before I made the scarf. Maybe I’ll have enough for a little ascot. They always look nice. Or how about that Chevron Neck Warmer? This picture should have told me something. But, then, Noro is very loosely spun compared to this yarn.

It was so cold this morning I could not relax. I kept tensing up and that just made me feel worse. Nancy, if you ever move back to Maine, I’ll come visit you in the Summer.

I think I ‘ll put on some Pavarotti and work on the tree. Some days, I don’t turn it on until dusk so I think it’s time.

Knitting Group

January 21, 2008
Barnes and Noble has a knitting group twice a month. I almost didn’t go. It was so cold–wind chill 13 degrees. There weren’t very many people there. I finished knitting my gloves and put a new thumb on an old pair. I picked the wrong yarn, but it was a very close match.

It’s good enough for me.

These gloves were a lot of fun to make. I still have most of a ball left for a scarf. Also, it’s a good way to know keep track the yarn when you have to put in a new finger or thumb on your gloves.

The old boys decided it was sweater day.

LA Boheme

January 20, 2008
I had a teary afternoon. NPR aired the 1977 performance of Luciano Pavarotti in La Boheme. It was so wonderful, so beautiful. His voice was so pure that I couldn’t hold back the tears. They played interviews and that brought more tears. I saw him twice. He was unbelievable.

Nancy’s Soap

January 19, 2008
Nancy sent me some of her homemade soap a while back and I must say that it is very nice soap. It smells nice and doesn’t dry my skin. I have tried the body washes. I even had to use one after my hip replacement. I couldn’t bend more than 90 degrees and when I dropped the soap, I couldn’t bend over and pick it up. I just wanted to say thanks while I was thinking about it.

I went up to Dover to sewing club. We made place mats. It was fun. Here’s mine. I rather like it. I should probably make some more.

This came in the mail today. I am going to make a quilt for a relative of my husband. I had no idea what to make. They live in Dallas, Texas. I saw this in one of my magazines and knew this was it. Sometimes, you have to sit back and wait for things to come to you. Then, one day, they just pop right into your lap. I swear this works. Sometimes it takes longer than others and you have to work like your crazed to finish on time, but it works.

Cancun

January 17, 2008
Suzette is off to Cancun today for a month of warmth and sun. I meant to ask her if she would take Elvis with her, but I forgot. Sorry, El. She’s done this every year since she retired. I don’t know if I could do that. I would have to take so much stuff.

  1. Yarn, needles, etc., for at least three projects.
  2. Sewing machine, fabric, etc.
  3. Three or four books, not paperbacks.
  4. Gus so I would have a reason to go for a walk.
  5. Elvis because he like sun and warmth and he would kill me if I didn’t.
  6. Maude because I would miss her too much.
  7. Zippo because he would cry his eyeballs out.
  8. Myuushi because I couldn’t leave him all alone even if he says he wouldn’t mind.
  9. Doug to feed the animals.

First we had rain, then snow and now it’s raining again.

Can you see the ducks on the other side in the water?

Maude was SOOO bored!

My table runner is almost done. I am not happy with it. I’ll probably feel better when its done. I really should be working on tree. Maybe later. I went shopping on line for yarn. I know I need more yarn like a hole in my head, but my Noro Kureyon gloves can’t take another repair. I found Kureyon Sock Yarn in the same colorway. I bought two for gloves and socks. The store also had free shipping with no minimum purchase. I was happy.

Yesterday’s Comments

January 17, 2008
Christine and Nancy are a great help to me when I talk about the weather. Nancy makes me enjoy my Summers when she talks about the 120 degree weather. Christine makes me enjoy my Winters when she talks about the -22 degree weather. Thank you so much. It just makes me feel so much better. Can you see the self satisfied grin on my face? No. Wait. I shouldn’t talk that way. I’ll go live in a cave and eat worms. But I do enjoy Delaware. I think that you should both come for a visit in May. We can sit out on the deck and knit the day away.

This morning.

This evening. Myuushi is always helpful.

When I have to pick up new stitches between the fingers, I pick up twice as many, the knit 2tog. It helps to close the gap. I also do this on heels when making socks.

Here’s my purple and black sweater with my new hat and gloves. Now, I have to make a scarf.

Tomato Soup

January 16, 2008
I was a little depressed last night so I had tomato soup for supper. I gave Doug the left over stir fry. That was good stir fry, but the tomato soup made me feel better. A fried cheese sandwich would have been nice to dunk in it, but I didn’t want that much. It all started when someone down the street handed out fliers about a neighborhood association. It really was about his peeves about everyone. It went beyond ridiculous. It got to me. After a while I realized that I was being ridiculous and gave myself a good talking to. However, I will be glad when Linda returns to hear her rant.

It is really cold today (mid 30’s). I almost turned back on our morning walk, but the wind stopped and I went on. I did look good though. My new hat and gloves looks great with my purple and black sweater. I should make that sweater again. I should also take a picture of it.

Look at the way the little finger patterned. I could not have done that intentionally if I tried.

Pussycat 2

January 14, 2008

This is what I discovered. Paula Prentiss and Ursula Andress are still around and “semi-retired”. Does that mean they work when want to or when they can find something? They are around 70. That sounds retired to me. After several attempts, Capucine managed to kill herself in 1990. Romy Schneider died of cardiac arrest when she was 47. I am assuming that you know Peter Sellers died several years ago. Did you see Dr. Strangelove? I first saw it in a wonderful old theatre in Omaha, Nebraska so that must have been in the Winter of 63-64. There was another movie playing with it, but I don’t remember what it was. Peter O’Toole is still making movies, several of which I thoroughly enjoyed, but it is really hard to find those beautiful blue eyes in all those wrinkles. Woody Allen is still a genius, but his lifestyle makes me sick.

I can’t make up my mind about this sweater. Knitting the sleeve on circular needles has been really slow. And I’m not sure that I like this pattern. There are at least two others that I could make with this yarn. Even if I stay with this one, I know I don’t want to finish this sleeve in the round. I really don’t want to unknit it, steam it, dry it and rewind it, but I guess I will have to. Otherwise, it will never get done.

The glove is coming along nicely. Look at those increases for the thumb. No holes.

What’s New, Pussycat

January 13, 2008
It was on PBS last night. I hadn’t seen it in many years. It was funnier than I remembered. What were you doing when it first came out? Wait a minute. Were you even alive? I forget sometimes how old I am. I was married to a man who was trying to drive me insane. He did like movies so I probably saw it with him. Anyway, I know what happened with the male actors, but not the females. There were four that looked familiar. I recognized their names, but I have no idea what happened to them. I will have to look them up. Ah, research! What did I do before I had a computer?

I am a bit pookie today. My cold is still there and i am not happy. I know I don’t have bronchitis. Been there. Done that. I just wish it would go away. We rode down to the supermarket in Laurel. They carry the tuna the cats like and we got some treats for Elvis. How do you spend $100 when you feel like a zombie? I bought some bananas and grapes. I almost bought oranges before realizing that I still had some.

Maude took my advice and went to bed at 8PM last night. Zippo had to find other accommodations.

He was still mad this morning.

Maude is P O’ed

January 12, 2008

For the past two nights, Zippo has gone to bed early in Maude’s favorite sleeping place–the dirty clothes basket. What could be better than Mom’s dirty underwear? She looked so sad. I told her she should go to bed sooner, but she said Zippo had ruined the flavor. When I went to bed, I laid my clothes on the settee. She curled up on them and went to sleep.

The hat is finished. I am glad that I decided to add another row of squares. It made the hole bigger, but I just did a few more rows of decreases before starting the I-cord. I like it much more than the last one. Speaking of which, I started the gloves last night.

I have already decided to take this out and make a swatch on size 2’s. This rib is a tad too loose for me. I worked on the back of the table runner, but I was getting frustrated. I couldn’t think straight. Or was it that I could think straight when I needed to think diagonally? Zippo was no help.
