Idiot Dog, Idiot Owner

October 27, 2008

We were heading out to the horse farm this morning, when we saw this woman with a little dog beside the road.  She had no leash on the dog.  When it saw Gus, it took off after him.  She barely grabbed it in time and she started laughing, saying something about how her dog would tear Gus to shreds if he got to him.  She thought she was being funny.  We were thinking how that dog will probably end up on someones front bumper or trampled by a horse.  They were both pretty brainless.

It was too cold to sit outside so I knit a little inside.  I’ll probably make some more flowers later.  Last night, I made leaves and stems.  I need to dig through my stash for more leftover yarn.

I got some fabric cut. I am making a little quilt that looks like a flag in the wind.  The directions are stupid and I’ve all ready found a better way to do it.

Ringtones

October 26, 2008

I spent about an hour looking for a new ring tone.  It was making me crazy.  I wanted some thing unique, but irritating enough for me to answer it quickly.  Happy Happy Joy Joy from Ren & Stimpy came to mind, but there didn’t seem to be anyway to get it without having to subscribe and paying $9.99 PER MONTH.  The site where I got  a free tone before doesn’t seem to have nearly as much as they used to and nothing of any interest.  Maybe I will look again tomorrow.  Sometimes you just have to be in the right frame of mind to do these things.

So.  Anyway.  Today was decent.  It’s supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow so I took my knitting out to the deck while I still had the chance.

I got up to get some coffee and this is what I came back to.

I managed to get about 24 rows completed.

I experimented with some flowers.  I don’t know if I will make a flower pot and tie them with a ribbon.  I want to make more flowers first.

Einstein Jacket

The I-cord along the bottom is finished and the ends are tucked inside.  It has a tidy look.  Before, it just looked sloppy.

This is not a good picture of the back.  I should take a close up.  Now that it is completely mine, I am trying to add more color to it.

I am not sure yet about this collar.  It’ll stay for now while I work on other parts.

Hunting season must have started today.  I was awakened by gunshots around 7:30 this morning and they have started up again.  Sound really carries across the river.  I assume daybreak and twilight is the best time.

Sorry

October 25, 2008

I think I got a little carried away yesterday.  Sometimes it’s hard to come up with something every single day, but I’m trying.  I guess I’ll just move to one of those states and live in a cave and eat worms.  That’s one way to lose weight.

Guess What I Learned

October 24, 2008

Canadians have fur.  I got it straight from the horses mouth.  So that’s why they can live up there.  Sh.  Don’t tell anyone.  I wonder.  Do Alaskans have fur?  And what about people in places like North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming?  Do they lick there fur dry?  The mind boggles.  Maybe they are changelings.  Was Anne McCaffrey right?

Sorting Fabric

October 22, 2008

I have been sorting my fabric stash off and on for the past several days.  I finished this morning and cut out a few things.  I have five fabrics for nightgowns, but I was planning on two or three.  How did that happen?  At least it’s good for quilting.  As a matter of fact, they would all make a very nice looking quilt.  The Christmas quilt that Doug wants me to make for our bed needs a few plain colors.  There’s more than enough for the bed and a small quilt.  I spent entirely too much time looking for matching solid fabrics today.  There are plenty of the patterned fabrics, and Iknow there are solids out there.  It seems no one is advertising them.  I guess I am going to have to do it the old fashioned way and call around.  Jeeze!

It’s very windy today and Zip doesn’t like it one bit.  His fur gets blown the wrong way.  It’s all our fault.  Maude doesn’t like the wind either.  She doesn’t  have much fur and gets cold.  She’s been in and out several times.  Elvis, on the other, was out for quite a while.  He was sleeping on the bricks.  I tossed a few acorns at him to make sure he was still alive.  He thinks the others are whoozes.

The Electrician was Late

October 22, 2008

And he didn’t finish.  So what else is new?  It means another day when I will have to get dressed when I get up.  It’s almost like having to go to work.  Boy, I don’t miss that 4:30AM alarm.  Half the year, it wasn’t even light out by the time I started work.  I don’t miss that job either.

Here’s my new handbag.  Isn’t it cute?  No gagging.

It was nice enough to sit outside for a while this afternoon and knit.

I finished the decreases for the heel and now I am heading for the toe.

It is really starting to look like Autumn.

Got Oil?

October 21, 2008

Well.  We do.  The truck was supposed to come this morning, but didn’t show up until 1:30PM.  I went dog walking this morning by myself.  Bummer!  I used to walk all the time alone, but since the hip replacement, Doug has been walking with me.  At first, I couldn’t stand it, but then I started to like it.  I don’t feel as much like he is watching over me as I used to.

So, the furnace cleaning guy doesn’t show up until 5:30PM.  Supper was almost ready.  I didn’t think he was coming.  He said they got a lot of no heat calls.  We haven’t even turned ours on yet.  It’s not that cold.  He was down there for about two hours.  He has to crawl through a hole in the wall to get to the furnace which is partly in sand.  I assume that’s the way those things are done here.  It didn’t seem to faze him.

One of my new handbags came today, but I forgot to take a picture.  Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.  The Einstein coat is coming along.  I may have it finished in a few days.  I should say I may have the bottom edge done.  I really think that I need to do something about the collar.  This coat is so boring.  I have got to make it right.  It would be so wasteful not to wear it.

I just hope that I don’t run out of yarn.  If I do, I’m screwed.  Speaking of stupid, I joined another sock club today.  Why do I do these things?

Knitting Group

October 19, 2008

There weren’t very many there today.  Most of my favorites were there so it was enjoyable.  Again, we were unnecessarily shoved into a tiny space.  We were also told that we couldn’t meet there from mid November until January.  Our second gathering in November will be at Stacy’s, but I understand her space is small.  Someone knows of a place at the mall and is looking into it.  Afterward, I went out to supper with two others and had  very nice time.

It has been pretty cold for the last few days, and windy, too.  We are finally having real Autumn weather.  We tolerate it during the day and have a fire going all evening.  About half an hour before bedtime, we turn on the electric mattress pad.  We hate to put the heat on before November.  We don’t want to give in to the cold.

All I Wanted was a New Handbag

October 18, 2008

I looked at a couple of nice stores in town and even hit the outlets in Rehoboth to no avail.  I knew what I wanted and I knew what I didn’t want.  It didn’t seem that difficult.  You know, there must be millions of handbags for sale on eBay.  I found several I liked and wound up getting two.  I had placed five bids.  Now my eyeballs feel like they are about to fall out.  I looked at fabric and embroidery designs, too.  After a while, I stopped looking because I was so tired that I couldn’t make a decision.  There’s no rush.

No work has gotten done on my socks, but the too long sweater is coming along.  I’ve also been sewing.  I have knitting group tomorrow and I will take my socks.  There has been talk of moving the location.  Originally, the store invited us, and now, we feel like they are trying to push us out.

Zip helped me get some sewing done.
