My New Handbag

September 23, 2009

I’ve been looking for a new handbag on Etsy.  I was thinking about leather, but when I saw this, I knew it was the one.  She had several that I liked.  Most of them were solid colored,  but the orange and pink stripes called to me.  Here’s the address: www.helisengezer.etsy.com.   Check her out.  She has great style.

To self-righteous Joan— you have not told me anything that I didn’t already know.  So, “EXCUUUUUSSSSE ME!!”  This is my blog and I’ll give my opinion on what ever I choose.  Thank you.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

April 15, 2009

When it’s raining and chilly, I want to hibernate.  Doug made a fire so that helps.  I was going to work on the lining for the handbag.   I managed to cut a bottom out of fiberboard.  I got out the silk to iron and cut out, but that’s as far as it went.  We needed to go shopping.  When we got back, this is what I found.

041309-001So I did some embroidery.  I’ll show you when I get back.  I’ve been jumping around today from one thing to another.  I’ll be glad when Jenn’s surgery is over.  I’ve packed three different knitting projects to take with me to Hopkins.

New Nightshirts

April 1, 2009

It  was really windy so this is as good as it gets.  The grumpy old man is my husband.  He wanted to help so I thought I should include him in the picture.

While I was there,  I walked over to the edge and took pictures of the geese.

And, here’s my handbag.

Interweave Knits

February 13, 2009

p1010788Here it is, folks.  This is the last IK that I will ever receive.  Look at that cover sweater!  Could they have picked anything worse?  It looks like something my mother would have worn to putter around the house.  Not my Grandmother though, who had better taste.  There were two things in this issue that I might consider making, but there are no real garments.  For over a year now, this magazine has been a big waste of my money.  I think the only reason I kept getting it was because I have gotten it since it’s inception.  For years, I enjoyed it.  The designs and articles were great.  There were always several things I wanted to make.  And now, Iam ashamed to say I still get it.  The patterns are boring, boring, boring.  There is nothing of any interest anymore.  It is very sad that such a good magazine could sink to such mediocrity.

I am very pleased with my bag.  I have gone as far as I can because I ran out of the teal.  It’s my own fault.  I didn’t decide to knit it in the round until after I got the yarn.  I’ll order another skein next week.  There are a few other things that I need anyway.  I also need to look through my stash for some pretty fabric to use for lining and pockets.

It is amazing how much bigger the kitchen and family room feels with this one foot of wall removed.  We are going to look at paint this weekend.

And The Walls Came Tumbling Down

February 12, 2009

It is amazing how much better it looks without that dark, dated panelling.  One look at the sheet rock and I knew we  would be going with a warm color paint.  Whatever it is, it won’t be dark!

It was in the upper 60’s today so I sat outside and knit.  The bag is coming along.  I’m going to need another skein of the teal.  I’m also going to use more lime and less yellow.  I think it will be a better overall look.  p1010785

Don’t Expect Much

Here is today’s progress on the bag.  I don’t know why I bothered.  I also took pictures of some things to send to my girlfriend, but now I don’t think I will have the time.  Frank is coming tomorrow to start tearing out the ugly old panelling in the family room and part of a wall in the kitchen.  I’ve got to get as much of my crap as possible out of there tonight.

A Nice Day

February 7, 2009

p1010744I actually got to sit outside and do some knitting.  I finished my black socks last night so I started on a bag for my daughter.  The bag is from Beth and the yarn is from Knit Picks.  It is called Telemark, 100% Peruvian wool.  It is tightly spun which is good for a bag, but I don’t think I would want to make a sweater with it.

The Electrician was Late

October 22, 2008

And he didn’t finish.  So what else is new?  It means another day when I will have to get dressed when I get up.  It’s almost like having to go to work.  Boy, I don’t miss that 4:30AM alarm.  Half the year, it wasn’t even light out by the time I started work.  I don’t miss that job either.

Here’s my new handbag.  Isn’t it cute?  No gagging.

It was nice enough to sit outside for a while this afternoon and knit.

I finished the decreases for the heel and now I am heading for the toe.

It is really starting to look like Autumn.

All I Wanted was a New Handbag

October 18, 2008

I looked at a couple of nice stores in town and even hit the outlets in Rehoboth to no avail.  I knew what I wanted and I knew what I didn’t want.  It didn’t seem that difficult.  You know, there must be millions of handbags for sale on eBay.  I found several I liked and wound up getting two.  I had placed five bids.  Now my eyeballs feel like they are about to fall out.  I looked at fabric and embroidery designs, too.  After a while, I stopped looking because I was so tired that I couldn’t make a decision.  There’s no rush.

No work has gotten done on my socks, but the too long sweater is coming along.  I’ve also been sewing.  I have knitting group tomorrow and I will take my socks.  There has been talk of moving the location.  Originally, the store invited us, and now, we feel like they are trying to push us out.

Zip helped me get some sewing done.
