Why It’s so Hard to Finish a Sweater
October 31, 2008Idiot Dog, Idiot Owner
October 27, 2008We were heading out to the horse farm this morning, when we saw this woman with a little dog beside the road. She had no leash on the dog. When it saw Gus, it took off after him. She barely grabbed it in time and she started laughing, saying something about how her dog would tear Gus to shreds if he got to him. She thought she was being funny. We were thinking how that dog will probably end up on someones front bumper or trampled by a horse. They were both pretty brainless.
It was too cold to sit outside so I knit a little inside. I’ll probably make some more flowers later. Last night, I made leaves and stems. I need to dig through my stash for more leftover yarn.
I got some fabric cut. I am making a little quilt that looks like a flag in the wind. The directions are stupid and I’ve all ready found a better way to do it.
Ringtones
October 26, 2008I spent about an hour looking for a new ring tone. It was making me crazy. I wanted some thing unique, but irritating enough for me to answer it quickly. Happy Happy Joy Joy from Ren & Stimpy came to mind, but there didn’t seem to be anyway to get it without having to subscribe and paying $9.99 PER MONTH. The site where I got a free tone before doesn’t seem to have nearly as much as they used to and nothing of any interest. Maybe I will look again tomorrow. Sometimes you just have to be in the right frame of mind to do these things.
So. Anyway. Today was decent. It’s supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow so I took my knitting out to the deck while I still had the chance.
I got up to get some coffee and this is what I came back to.
I managed to get about 24 rows completed.
I experimented with some flowers. I don’t know if I will make a flower pot and tie them with a ribbon. I want to make more flowers first.
Sorting Fabric
October 22, 2008I have been sorting my fabric stash off and on for the past several days. I finished this morning and cut out a few things. I have five fabrics for nightgowns, but I was planning on two or three. How did that happen? At least it’s good for quilting. As a matter of fact, they would all make a very nice looking quilt. The Christmas quilt that Doug wants me to make for our bed needs a few plain colors. There’s more than enough for the bed and a small quilt. I spent entirely too much time looking for matching solid fabrics today. There are plenty of the patterned fabrics, and Iknow there are solids out there. It seems no one is advertising them. I guess I am going to have to do it the old fashioned way and call around. Jeeze!
It’s very windy today and Zip doesn’t like it one bit. His fur gets blown the wrong way. It’s all our fault. Maude doesn’t like the wind either. She doesn’t have much fur and gets cold. She’s been in and out several times. Elvis, on the other, was out for quite a while. He was sleeping on the bricks. I tossed a few acorns at him to make sure he was still alive. He thinks the others are whoozes.
Knitting Group
October 19, 2008There weren’t very many there today. Most of my favorites were there so it was enjoyable. Again, we were unnecessarily shoved into a tiny space. We were also told that we couldn’t meet there from mid November until January. Our second gathering in November will be at Stacy’s, but I understand her space is small. Someone knows of a place at the mall and is looking into it. Afterward, I went out to supper with two others and had very nice time.
It has been pretty cold for the last few days, and windy, too. We are finally having real Autumn weather. We tolerate it during the day and have a fire going all evening. About half an hour before bedtime, we turn on the electric mattress pad. We hate to put the heat on before November. We don’t want to give in to the cold.
All I Wanted was a New Handbag
October 18, 2008I looked at a couple of nice stores in town and even hit the outlets in Rehoboth to no avail. I knew what I wanted and I knew what I didn’t want. It didn’t seem that difficult. You know, there must be millions of handbags for sale on eBay. I found several I liked and wound up getting two. I had placed five bids. Now my eyeballs feel like they are about to fall out. I looked at fabric and embroidery designs, too. After a while, I stopped looking because I was so tired that I couldn’t make a decision. There’s no rush.
No work has gotten done on my socks, but the too long sweater is coming along. I’ve also been sewing. I have knitting group tomorrow and I will take my socks. There has been talk of moving the location. Originally, the store invited us, and now, we feel like they are trying to push us out.
Zip helped me get some sewing done.
It Was Doug’s Birthday
October 17, 2008Maybe that’s why it was so hot. I think it got up to 85 today. I’m not used to sweating in October. It is supposed to be 20 degrees cooler tomorrow. Everybody is going to be so sick.
My son was off from work today so he came for a visit and brought two gallons of Weber’s cider. I finally thought of a good birthday present this evening. Doug is so hard to buy for. When I find what I want, I’ll post a picture.
Thawing frozen bananas is gross. Peeling them and mashing them is even worse. If anyone ever saw me making this cake, they would never eat it. I don’t tell what’s in it. They wouldn’t believe me. They just say that it is the best chocolate cake they have ever eaten.
The mail person brought me a package today. Now I have to figure out how much I still need.
I think I want another green.
Good night.
New Header
October 13, 2008I’m not sure whether I like this one. It seems too busy to me. Maybe I’ll change it to this.
Now that the weather is getting a little cooler, we sometimes have mornings like this. I like the fog. Everything seems different. When I was young, we used to go camping in Maine. I liked to walk along the rocks and watch the waves. I would pretend that I was the only person on the island. I’d like to go again sometime, maybe with Nancy. Doug doesn’t like to travel. It’s hard enough dragging him to the ocean in Delaware.
Einstein Coat
October 13, 2008I started pulling the coat apart last night while trying to find something to watch on TV. There is never anything on Saturdays any more. I don’t watch reality shows, game shows or sports. Most comedies are so bad that I find myself grinding my teeth in under ten minutes. Most dramas might as well be fantasy for all the sense they make and I usually figure out who did it by the second commercial. Often, I pretend that the comedy is a drama and the drama is a comedy. It’s much more believable that way.
Here, I have starting unraveling. I didn’t get any done toady because Maude took a very long nap.
She was out until midnight last night. She got up at 6 this morning and went out. It was almost noon before she had breakfast. She slept right through the boys’ supper. We finally woke her up and pushed her out the door around 6PM without any supper. If we had fed her, she probably would have stayed out until 2AM.
It was a nice afternoon so I worked on my sock.
I normally use six needles at this point. There is a lost less stress on the needles and there is no gap going down the bottom of the sock.
I Don’t Have a New Kitten
October 12, 2008But, Zip considers himself the baby. He has been very frisky since the weather cooled a little. And he has been coming in later at night. Maude, on the other hand, has been spending more time indoors where her toes don’t get cold.
I am trying to blog earlier today. On most days, I’m doing it right before going to bed when I’m not thinking too clearly anyway. I really should spend a little more time on my computer, but it’s too nice outside. It is getting cooler. I don’t where my sandals much, unless I’m wearing handmade socks. I’m not wearing shorts much either, but I haven’t put them on the shelf in the back of my closet yet.
I dragged out the Einstein coat I made a few years ago to see if I could do something with it. I made it out of my crazy ex-girlfriend’s yarn for her to use as a sample. The yarn is a grey, tan, brown color that she knew was the latest color. Well, she was wrong. I wonder what she did with all that yarn? I am not a grey, tan, or brown person so I embellished the h**l out of it. I got great ideas from Knitted Embellishments. When she gave it back to me, I threw it in a closet. But, it kept calling me. I got it out. I put it on—for the thousandth time. It finally hit me. It’s too long. Now, if you know anything about Sally Melville’s pattern, you know that the bottom is knit sideways. Bummer. I have to take out the last 15 or so bound off stitches and pull out every single row along the bottom. After I do that, I have to decide if I should cut the ends and do fringe or weave about a thousand strands through the wrong side. Ugh!
The old man is doing well. He had another seizure on the bed. He didn’t wet much, so there is only the quilt to wash. He has had three that I have seen. Is this where the “nine lives” business comes from?
