Now I am off to Reisterstown for a few days.

Merry Christmas
December 24, 2007Gluing Reindeer
December 20, 2007I am a knitter, a sewer, an embroiderer, a quilter, a crocheter. I am not a gluer. It took me hours to get those underbellies inserted on those reindeer, but they are finally done. It’s a wonder my whole dining room isn’t stuck together. Now I have to put the whole thing together. ARGH!!! How does Rudolph’s nose look? It is so tacky. I love it.

Here is my friend and neighbor, Linda, modeling my daughter’s tunic. Jenn is at least four inches taller and she has boobs. It still needs buttons and steaming, but models can be hard to catch. I also sent it to her husband. I said I found her wandering around again and that she was trying to fly away. You’ve got to have some fun.
Hey, Christine! Look. No snow. And I only had to wear a sweater when I walked the dog.
I’m sorry. I am bad. Santa won’t bring me any presents. Reindeer will do that to you.
Knitting Group
December 17, 2007I went down to Salisbury yesterday afternoon to join a little knitting group. It was very casual– just the way I like it so I will be going back. They meet twice a month. I also found out about a yarn shop that may be worth visiting. It was in a bookstore so I looked around afterward. The place had too many paperbacks and not enough hard covers. I did find an ADC map of Sussex county which made Doug really happy. I was going to wrap it up for Christmas, but he likes these little surprizes. They didn’t have the DVD that I wanted for my son. It’s an English movie, but I did find out it is supposed to be released for Americans this winter.
My Christmas projects are coming along very slowly. The tunic needs some ends woven in. I got most of the sewing done during The King and I. When Jenn was in high school, we went to see Yul Brynner live doing The King and I. It was her first musical. We have enjoyed several musicals since then. I don’t think I will ever tire of seeing it.
The Mittens are in the Mail
December 14, 2007I drove up to the post office this afternoon and deposited my package in the slot inside. Mercifully, it just fit. There was a long line at the window and I had more then enough stamps on it. The bridge over the river is out for two weeks so I had to drive out to the highway and come back in. It took about three times as long as usual.
The socks were a pair I started last summer, but forgot about until I was looking for yarn. The mittens were made from Lion Brand yarn that I think my mother had. It said machine washable and dryable on the label. It was the only kind she would use. They are thick and soft so I hope they make someone happy. Now I can get back to my daughter’s tunic. The reindeer are also about done, but I am not looking forward to putting them all together. It will be worth it. They really look good.

Here are my oldest and newest Haflingers. I love these shoes. They were made for me. The arch is perfect. I can put on a brand new pair and wear them all day like they were my oldest. That includes walking down to the horse farm with my goofy dog. I wonder how long I can go without scraping them. I bought two pair because that’s what they had on sale in my size.
Mittens and Reindeer
December 11, 2007I read this blog about this teacher wanting mittens and socks or slippers for the students at her school. Nearly all of the children come from very poor homes. I wish that I had known about it earlier, but I can’t read everything. So I am knitting mittens and socks. So far, I have made two pairs of mittens and one of socks. I figure I can send everything out by Thursday and it will get there on time. My reindeer are coming along slowly. The thread keeps breaking on this last spool and re-threading is wearing thin on my nerves. I just changed the needle so I know that isn’t it. Why is it always everything or nothing? I still have to finish my daughter’s tunic. I’ll be OK after Thursday. Well, maybe not. I just remembered I offered to knit a pair of gloves as a prize. Oh, wait. I said that I wouldn’t be able to start them until January. Wow. That was close.
I want to thank everyone for the comments. They make me feel like dancing. I will not be posting pictures today. Well, just one. Love ya.
He’s so helpful.
Snow? In Delaware?
December 5, 2007I had to take Sweetums to Lewes this morning to have a polyp removed. Poor baby. I am so good to him. I even got up a 5AM to mix his last cocktail for him. Then I went back to bed until 8AM. Well, you know. I had to drive. I needed my rest. When we got there, I sat with him for about 15 minutes. I didn’t want to eat in front of him so I rode over to Rehobeth Beach and had breakfast. After doing a little shopping, he called and said he was done. Snow was starting to fall and I really wanted to get home. We live about 45 minutes away. This is only the second time that it has snowed since we moved to Delaware. I know how to handle my vehicle, but I don’t trust others.

The cats had a great time. Little Maude was out the longest. The Myuush went out, walked around and came back in. Zippo spent a long time cleaning his fur. I asked him if he would like a haircut, but he said no, thank you very much.
I finally finished my Equilateral Vest. The yarn I used was heavier and I had to change needle size. Thanks to Lucy Neatby’s instructions, I had no trouble with gauge and the size was right on. I really like her patterns.

You Can Go Back
November 29, 2007I’m going back to Reisterstown tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain on Sunday and I would rather drive back home than go to the cemetery. I plan on taking a nice long bath Friday morning. I love that bathtub. I don’t even use the one here. Well, I do shower. Then, I will go to the cemetery and decorate for Christmas. Saturday morning, Jenn and I will go Christmas shopping. This works pretty well for us. Males are so hard to buy for. And we are not above saying to each other what we want. We’ve been doing it for several years now. We have a good time. It is supposed to be in the upper 40’s so I will take extra sweaters and gloves. Did I mention that gloves are my favorite thing to make?

Speaking of gloves, I finished the scarf to go with Jenn’s gloves. I actually made it twice. The first time, it wasn’t long enough so I cast on just enough to do one pattern. Now, it’s long and skinny.
And here is the scarf that I finally made to go with my gloves.
This is probably my last blog for November unless I can get over to my daughter’s house on Friday.
Dental Benefits
November 26, 2007My head hurts. I just spent nearly three hours reading about dental plans. I have to pick something by Dec. 10. I have four plans to choose from and I have narrowed it down to two. AARRGGHH!! Somehow, my husband has managed to break two pairs of his glasses this year so I guess I am going to add him to my vision plan.
We watches a good movie last night, Hogfather, based on a book by Terry Pratchett. I have read some of his books, but not this one. I called my son as it was starting. He found out he got Ion and put it on. He was really excited. I think he has read every one of his books. My girlfriend called right after I hung up. I really didn’t want to answer it. She was actually civil. We talked for about ten minutes when her brother called. Fine with me. I was trying to watch the movie and crochet. Then my daughter called. I had called earlier, but she wasn’t home. We had some plans to make. We didn’t talk too long. Since I am used to multi-tasking, I didn’t miss any of the movie. I can talk on the phone, watch TV and knit at the same time, but not crochet. I was very happy when the phone finally stopped ringing. I got a fair amount of crocheting done by the time the movie was over.

Can you tell that I crochet left-handed?
Oh, What a Beautiful Morning
November 21, 2007Here it is, the day before Thanksgiving. I have things to do, but it is so beautiful outside. I managed to cook up a small batch of rolls this morning before walking the dog. They’re gone now. Sweetums washed and hung the sheets so I guess I will have to bathe tonight. I am sure the neighbors will appreciate it.
Here is a picture of me with the neighbors house in the background. I didn’t like this sweater when I first made it. It sat on the closet shelf for a good year. I am finally starting to like it. It seems to look better. I think all those dog walks are paying off. Do I look brain dead! I was trying to explain the camera to my husband and this was the best he could do. At this point, I probably was brain dead.

The pattern is from Sally Melville’s Purl Book. The yarn is Rowan California Cotton. I really love this yarn. I still have enough for at least three more sweaters. It’s also wonderful for wash cloths. I am making my daughter a tunic with it. It is taking me a while because it is crocheted. It’s hard on my hands and I can’t crochet for hours on end like knitting. On the other hand, her knitted gloves are done and I have started on a matching lacy scarf.
Back to reality. I’ve got to go peel apples.
Rain, Rain, Rain
November 20, 2007I woke up late due to the rain. It rained all morning so I decided to drive down to Salisbury to get a haircut. Monday’s a good day to go, but I took some knitting just to be sure. Well, I breezed right in. Of course, if I hadn’t taken anything, I would have had to wait. Then I went over to TSC for horse treats. No, I don’t own a horse, but I do walk my dog around a horse farm. Next stop was Michael’s Crafts. I needed green pipe cleaners for a Christmas display I am hoping to make for my daughter for Christmas. They don’t call them pipe cleaners any more. The sales person looked at me like I had three heads. I found them on my own. They are now called chenille stems. That store gives me a headache, but I did find some tiny presents to put in Santa’s tiny sleigh and some cookie sheets. I’ll post a picture if and when my husband finishes painting the wall and I dare open my sewing machine again. Hopefully, I will get a chance to finish knitting the gloves tonight and start on the scarf. I want to do something different, but my brain isn’t in creative mode currently.
