Urologist

September 24, 2009

I really didn’t want to go there, but I’ve been having trouble for so long.  My daughter talked me into going.  I want to visit my girlfriend in Arizona.  I don’t want an aisle seat near the lavatory.  I want to be able to sit by a window and knit.  So I went.  She asked a bunch of questions, most of which I said, “yes”, to.  I have to go back in a month for a “procedure” that I don’t want to even think about right now.  She gave me some of  “those” pills to take to see if they help.  I have no intention of taking them forever.  I want the TVT surgery.  Besides, the pills can cause constipation which I don’t need.  I have hypothyroidism which makes you constipated anyway.  To make a long story short, I’m depressed.

092209 016One thing I can say for the urologist, they were prompt.  I only finished two rows on my sock while waiting.  It was very humid today, but I still sat outside and knit for a couple of hours.  I needed quiet time to think.

092209 010It was too sunny for Zip.092209 022Cora kept me company.

I Joined Facebook

September 16, 2009

Someone mentioned that it was a good way to find people.  I wanted to contact my cousin’s daughters.  She died several years ago and I have an album of pictures that I would like to give them.  I found them when my mother died.  There was a box in her basement full of Nanny’s things, most of which were clothes.  There was also some albums.  One was filled with pictures of my cousins and their parents.  I thought that the girls would like them.  I found their addresses in one of my mother’s books, but I never heard anything.  My aunt, their grandmother,  was still alive, but the information she gave me didn’t do any good.  I found one name on Facebook.  It wasn’t her, but the woman was kind enough to reply.  I was feeling pretty sad, thinking these pictures are just sitting in a box here, that there is no one else to enjoy them.  My cousin had the most beautiful  eyes.  And I know one daughter and her granddaughter also had those eyes.

I think I’ll look on Facebook for my other cousins.  Their parents moved to Florida about forty years ago and I have only seen one of them since then.  Maybe that will cheer me.  I got a message from one of my friends from high school.  She saw our guidance counsellor at the fair.  This man was so nice to me when I was having problems.  I truly believe that I would have quit school if it hadn’t been for him.  I feel better now.

She’s not drunk.  She’s sound asleep.  But a cute kitten is good for my spirits.

It’s Been a Busy Week on the Creek

September 14, 2009

I had to go for my annual physical Tuesday morning.  While I was out, I had my teeth checked at the dentist.  Then, I got some breakfast.  Afterwards, I got a haircut.  I had about three inches cut off and it’s still long enough to put up.  September here can still have some hot days.

Wednesday morning, I had blood drawn.  Every year, this gets harder.  I have terrible veins.  They were finally able to get blood out of my right hand.  When I had a colonoscopy, they had to put the IV in my foot.  It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was donating blood on a regular basis.  I must be getting old.

The best day was Thursday.  Leslie and Maria came over we went shopping.  They are knitters, too,  so guess where we went.   drove.  I like to drive.  First, we went to Sea Needles in Bethany Beach.  We were there for almost two hours.  I bought A size 7 circular needle, some sock yarn and Rowan magazine #46.  I don’t know why they call it a magazine.  It’s more like a book.  I wanted a 47″ or 60″ size 8 circular needle, but the longest they had in anything.  I was hoping to get one at the next stop.  Leslie bought some needles, but Maria couldn’t make up her mind about some sale yarn.  I liked both colorways so I wasn’t much help.  She didn’t buy either.

Next, I drove up Route 1 to Rehoboth Beach.  It was raining hard and very windy by that time.  Driving along with the bay on one side and the ocean on the other was exciting.  The rain had eased off by the time we got to Rehoboth.  I forgot to bring quarters for the meter, but Leslie had plenty–probably from the slots.  That’s her other passion.  The shop is called Kitschy.  I don’t think we will be going back.  There wasn’t much variety.  I believe she only stocked what she liked.  I never did get the other needle I wanted.  I was too disappointed in this shop.

Panera Bread in Salisbury

September 8, 2009

After knitting group, three of us went over to Panera Bread for supper.  The other two were happy with their salads.  I was disappointed with the tomatoes.  They were light pink Styrofoam.  I have been getting the best tomatoes this summer.  I found it sickening that they would have hothouse tomatoes shipped in from God knows where.  The tomato soup was good, but I would have preferred that they had asked me if I wanted croutons before putting them on top.  The coffee was good, too, even the decaf.

Word to the wise.  Never buy coffee at Applebee’s.

Living in Lower Slower Delaware

September 3, 2009

We were heading back to our drive after our daily walk when a car turned in and stopped.  He lives next to the little path we take to the river.  He invited us to walk down his driveway instead and sit out on his pier if we want.  He must have driven down the road looking for us because he turned back toward his home when he left us.  It’s just another reason why I love living here.

Yesterday we walked down his driveway.  It’s a very smooth driveway compared to the gravel path.  I don’t have to watch my feet and use my cane to keep from falling.  The pier is really nice, too.  There are two benches.  It’s like sitting in the middle of the river.  Doug and Gus don’t like the pier.  They both were getting dizzy, so today, I went out on the pier by myself.  The owner was there today and I made certain that he knew how much I appreciated it.

Why I have trouble blogging.

Summer is Over

August 29, 2009

We got married at the end of summer.  Today is our anniversary.  Therefore, summer is over.  I didn’t even realize what day is was until I went to date a photo.  I asked Doug if he knew what happened today and he didn’t.  No surprise there.  He’s always been clueless.  So I told him.  He said, “Happy Anniversary”.  I said it back.  And that’s the extent of our celebration.  We are not exactly romantic types.  We did go to Tapatia’s for supper, but that’s because it is Friday.  We didn’t tell our friends.

It’s raining again.  None of my sun loving flowers did well this year.  However, the impatiens went crazy.  Every year I have some come up on there own.  This year they were in areas where they had ever been before.  This includes the wooded area on the roadside.

082809 006Doug dug up a big old dying bush here last fall.  There was nothing here two months ago.  We have never had any impatiens on this side of the house.  I only put in a few plants by the courtyard.

Gus wants to play with the little girls so very much.  He stares when the Bee Jesus out of them when he jumps at them.  He doesn’t realize that he is ten times as big as them.

I Was Away

August 17, 2009

It was only there for three days and I had my laptop.  So.  Why didn’t I blog?  Hmm.  Well.  I don’t know.  Well.  No.  That’s not it.  I could have blogged.  Really.  I turned my laptop on.  I went to my blog and stared at it blankly a few times.  And then, I turned it off.  I just didn’t feel like it.

Monday, I went to Reisetrstown to see how the house looked and see my son.  Sometimes, children ( even adult children) need to hear, “that’s all right.  I still love you”.  We had some cooking  lessons, what to throw out lessons and what to chop down lessons, like the iron bench is completed covered by forsthysia bushes.

081309 002The house really looks good.  I want to thank my daughter for finding good people to do the job.  The pompom tree on the side yard is very overgrown, but it completely hides the idiot’s porch next door.  I’m afraid I’m going to have to call the county on him again.  The hydrangea on that side don’t look very good.  They aren’t getting much sun.  I think I’ll have them moved to the front this fall.  It’s looking a little bare since I had the big holly tree removed.

081309 004 I was standing on the front porch when I saw a small pile of tiny black pellets by one of the shutters.  I slowly pulled it back and there was the bat.  I slowly closed it and got my camera.  See?  He’s smiling just for me.  I think we’ve always had bats in our attic.  For a few weeks in the fall and spring, they’d be coming in as I was leaving for work.  I liked to watch them trying to get into the tiny slot.  I missed the train more than once.  Bats are so cool!  Whenever we go to the DC zoo, I always go to the bat house.

Is that enough for today?  I hope so.

Foggy Morning

July 23, 2009

072209 001You don’t see this much in the summer.

I had my annual visit to the ophthalmologist this morning.  My doctor retired recently so I tried the new guy.  He seems a decent sort.  He was efficient.

When I was four, my brother hit me in the eye with a slingshot.  We wound up at Hopkins very late at night.  I remember having a drop of blood rolling around my eye.  It was making my mother sick  so I tilted my head whenever she was looking at me.  I developed a cataract from it.  I’ll have to get it removed eventually.  Barf.

I was thinking about getting red frames, but I got violet instead.  My insurance allows me to get a free pair every year which is good because my prescription is always changing.  And I like variety.

I stopped at Mernie’s on the way home and bought fresh corn and peaches.  The corn was delicious.  Doug ate four ears and I had two.  It is so nice to be able to eat corn on the cob again.  Which reminds me.  I need to see the dentist soon.  Cora tried to peel a peach, but she didn’t do a very good job.  I told her to stick to purring.

When I got home, I couldn’t go out because my pupils were still dilated.  So I sat down and FINALLY finished writing my hat pattern.  I have been so lazy this summer, it is down right embarrassing.

Laurel Pizzeria

July 19, 2009

We went there for a pizza to see how it was.  We got the house special and added anchovies.  I have to have anchovies.  Don’t take me out for pizza to any pizzeria that doesn’t have anchovies.

The pizza was very good.  The cheese was especially good and there was plenty of it.   There was plenty of everything.  We really enjoyed it.  The only thing I didn’t like was the background music.  It was a too loud Frank Sinatra record.  A little variety would have been nice.

Thursday and Friday were hot and humid so we put the air conditioning on.  Today was so nice we turned it off when the sun went down.  It is supposed to be in the 50s overnight.  Good sleeping weather.

I had to take Gus to the vet on Thursday.  His ears were bothering him.  He has two pills to take twice a day, an ear wash and ear drops.  I have to shove the pills down his throat.  He will come to me even though he knows what I am going to do.  Maybe it’s because he knows he will get a treat afterwards.  He really is a good boy about it.

Many years ago, I had a shepherd-husky mix that ate anything I put in his bowl.  I would  just toss the pills in his bowl and he’d eat them.  I could also toss them in his general direction and he’d catch them and swallow them down.  One evening when I was pregnant, I dropped a prenatal vitamin.  He swallowed it and he was up all night.  I was up a lot anyway to use the toilet and I could hear him pacing downstairs.

At the Beach

July 16, 2009

I went down to my daughter’s trailer to take Keven his birthday presents and enjoy the beach.  It was a beautiful day and we had fun.  I brought home some crabs that I need to pick for crab cakes.  I may freeze it for next week when my son comes.
