Done

March 11, 2008
The federal taxes are done. The medical expenses took a while. They were all in one place, but there were so many this year. I had hip replacement surgery and my poor sweetie had two colonoscopies. For some reason, the state forms would not download properly. After backing in and out a couple of times, everything loaded like it should. I had a little trouble with one aspect, mainly because we had something different this year. It doesn’t matter that much because we came from a state that had much higher taxes so we had a lot more taken out than we needed .

Doug is all ready drawing lines on the kitchen counter top in anticipation. This kitchen is very tiny and has a useless peninsula that keeps me from being able to stand next to the oven with the door open. The pink counter-tops and the pink floor tiles are definitely going. We saw a nice blue and grey at Loews that we really liked.

Waiting for Spring.

Taxes

March 10, 2008
I started the working on the taxes this afternoon. Doug started putting stuff in and got frustrated. This happens every year. So he ran around getting all the information together(even though we have a place where everything is supposed to be) and I input all the rest of the crap. I’ll finish tomorrow. The worse is over.

When we came in from our walk this morning, I decided it was time to change this:

to this:

. I wish I had one for St. Patrick’s Day, but I do have a green Easter egg.

I started my St. Valentine’s Day table runner. I like the colors, but I had an awful time cutting the 6 1/2 inch squares. They kept changing to 5 1/2 and 6 inch squares. It was making me crazy. That would be a good list. “Things That Make Me Crazy”.

Not Much

March 9, 2008

We had a lot of rain last night and today.  We never had a low tide.

Two hours before high tide and it’s already over the neighbor’s bulkhead.  Ours is about a foot higher.

I got some old quilting pattern books.  By old I mean 5 to 15 years.  I also bought a pattern with tiny buttons with it.  I liked that idea because I have no idea where I could get them.

Well, that’s about all I’ve got today.

Miss Maude

March 7, 2008

I am not happy today. There are strange men next door. They have loud machines. They took away a big pile of branches where tasty critters hide. They knocked down one of the trees and cut it up into little pieces and made even more noise. There aren’t going to be any critters around for weeks.

And those geese! I can’t even walk along the bulkhead if they are around. They start screaming and flapping their wings. They look ridiculous. And they haven’t even laid their eggs yet! I am most certainly NOT going to swim over to the island. I’d get wet for crying out loud! I could walk over when the tide is extra low, but then I would get my feet all muddy. YUK! Yuk. Yuk. Yuk. YUK!!

The Gloves are Finished

March 6, 2008

They only took one skein of yarn. I can still make a pair for me, too. They will be going out to Nancy as soon as we find an envelope to put them in. It’s weird how one looks bigger than the other.

If Christine’s mittens are too big, she can always wear them the next time she does the dishes. A little scrubbing in some hot soapy water will do the trick. Then leave them on until they are dry and they should be just right.

We sat out on the deck for a while this afternoon. I worked on the other baby gift. If anyone wants to see it, leave me your email and I’ll send a picture.

Maude was busy doing her job. “Catch those voles, Maude! Good girl!”

I worked on my website a little last night. I did it all by myself with no ‘help’ from anyone and now my blogroll actually works. Who knows what I will tackle next.

Today’s Lesson

March 5, 2008
  1. Never take your husband anywhere when he has had a few beers.
  2. It doesn’t look good to beat him to death in front of people.
  3. The fact that he is laughing uncontrolably has nothing to do with it.
  4. Do not let him out of the car.
  5. Learn to forge his signature.

Another One

March 4, 2008
Doug got out the lawn chairs (two of them anyway) and we sat out on the deck this afternoon. We were joined by Elvis, Gus and Maude. Zip was busy. I was tired after our walk so I happily knit. It was so windy this morning that we decided to go through the woods to get away from it which was stupid. I’m not too good at clomping through underbrush yet. I was pooped when we got home. When we went to Walmart later in the afternoon, I couldn’t help but notice how much easier it is to walk around than it was last year. There are times when I REALLY don’t want to go for a walk, but I know it’s good for my hip and me all over.I had no idea that there were cities that do not allow clotheslines. It makes no sense. I know there are housing associations that don’t allow it. When our son was little, we were thinking about moving to a younger neighborhood. We found a house that we really liked. We were about a hand over a check to hold it when we found out that we could not put up a clothes or a fence. That took care of that. I had a fit with the realtor. She tried to talk around it, but that check never left our hands and we never moved either.I was happily knitting along last night, when I saw a missed stitch several rows down. I pulled out stitches to fix it. When I got down there, I realized I had pulled out the wrong one so I had to pull out two sets of stitches.

Looks awful, doesn’t it?

Here I took a needle and picked up every other row to help keep track of which row I was on.

Here I am crocheting the stitches up the rows.

You can’t even tell.

Enjoying the Day

March 4, 2008
It was a great day for a walk. It was almost warm. I didn’t need a sweater, just gloves and a sun hat which I almost lost to the wind.

It was also a good day to hang out the wash. Here is the other direction. Enjoy your day.

Knitting Day

March 3, 2008
I woke up early this morning and I thought I might actually get something done. I was reading and knitting when I realized that knitting group was this afternoon. I was such a grunge that I had to shower and wash my hair. So, I didn’t go for a walk. I stopped on the way to look at some kitties, but didn’t see anything. I did get the names of two more places. One was a cat sanctuary not far from where I live. I will have to call first. I hope they are not too weird. Some places are so much of a pain in the ass that it’s not worth it. So, I had a nice time at knitting, but I may have to do a little unknitting later. I have helping two different people and I seem to have zigged when I should have zagged. I can’t show you. It’s a surprise.

I bought this yarn at MD Sheep & Wool last May and I have no idea what I was planning to do with it. I believe at the time I had something in mind, but now I am clueless.

How I Spent My Friday

March 1, 2008

Elvis puked on this sweater yesterday. No. Maude did not get puked on. I hate to even think what she would do if that happened. Anyway, he did it when I was up to my eyeballs in cake batter and blueberries. Yes. It was Sandy’s recipe. I managed to scoop up Elvis and push him out the back door. My screaming brought Doug with offers to help. He got the sweater down  and proceeded to holler for instructions. I had to make two trips to the basement before I was able to get back to the cake. Then, Doug started hovering in the kitchen. I had to growl at him three times before he went away. I needed the cake finished and myself cleaned by 5:30 and he wasn’t helping matters. He decided it was a good time to take Gus for a walk.

Elvis turned out all right. He actually had a good time outside. He soaked up some sun.

See the brick walk Doug put down.

And he visited the neighbors.

Zip had to follow. He’s so nosy.

We didn’t get out until 5:50. So much for Linda’s 5:30ish. We decided on Mexican. Linda got her usual #114, Paul got #117, Doug went with #129 and I ordered #1. Everybody including the waiter looked at me. I had #140 last time and now I was starting over. There are too many good items at this restaurant for me ever to settle on one thing. And there are just a few that I would not get again. I hope I recognize them when I get to them.
