I’m Such an Idiot

March 21, 2008
Yesterday, I was two-thirds through an embroidery design when the needle broke. After changing the needle, I tried to continue the design. It was in the wrong place. I could not think how that happened. I pulled out the stitches and started it again. The same thing happened. What the h**l! I did it all over again with no luck. What was wrong? I did everything that I could think of. I finally turned it off and finished making supper. I had that chicken to contend with. Around 5AM, I woke up. While taking care of the call of the wild, I remembered what I forgot to do. This afternoon, I finished the design and all it took was two clicks to recalibrate it. I really do know better than that. It is something that I have had to do on occasion. Where was my brain?

I decided to try something new for dessert tomorrow. It’s called strawberry meringue cake. I made the cake part this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon, I’ll make the strawberry whipped cream. The cake certainly looks interesting.

My grandson is not happy with the picture that I put up of him so here is another one.

How’s this, Kevin?

It’s 70 Degrees

March 20, 2008

Maudie went out early this morning and came back after 1 PM wanting breakfast and then just pushed it around her plate. So far this year, we have been presented with two big fat moles. Why else would they be right in the middle of the welcome mat if they were not meant as gifts? We have since learned to look down before stepping down. I wish Maude wouldn’t wander so much, but I would never be able to keep a cat in, especially here. If I lived in an apartment, it would be different, but I hope that I never have to do that. I loved it here. We all do.

Elvis has his own chair.

Where’s Zippo, you say? He had work to do.

Somebody has got to watch the printer.

I baked a chicken for supper tonight. It was so gross. Chicken is supposed to come in little packages of breasts with no skin or bones. My house is going to smell for days. After cutting up what we would eat for supper, I wanted to throw the rest away. But, I didn’t. I wrapped it up like a good housewife and put it in the refrigerator. I do make good potpie. I will probably boil the carcass to make broth when I get the rest of the meat off. And I’ll stink up the house again!

Hearts

March 19, 2008
I managed to get the hearts sewn on to the runner this afternoon without any help form the peanut gallery.

Here they are all sewn and ready for embroidery.

Instead of making a separate label, I put this directly on the backing.

I found this cute heart and some little flowers. Maybe I’ll add another cat or two.

Christine has received her mittens. She says they fit perfectly which is always a relief. Now, she has offered to make me a woodcarving! She asked me what I wanted. There is always cats, but I like elephants, too. And giraffes. I like to watch the big birds as they float on the wind. But not geese. They are a pain. Although the babies are cute. All yellow and fuzzy. Pigs are kind of cute, too. But, I wouldn’t want any of them in my house, so I think I will stick with cats.

No Sewing

March 17, 2008
I had hoped to get the heart sewn on to the table runner this afternoon. The hearts were ironed down and the sewing machine was threaded with just the right color. But I had to do a few other things first. When I got back this is what I encountered.

So I guess I’ll go cut the binding if Zip is done with it.

Lucky Son

March 16, 2008
Friday morning, Win and I went out to breakfast and then headed out to the animal shelter. Unfortunately, they only had four cats/kittens available. They were having problems with upper respiratory infections and none of the others could go until April. We could look at them through the glass. Win saw one he liked so we said that we would be back. Then we went over to the county pound. Win fell in love with this little girl.

You should have seen the look on his face when he saw her. She purrs and talks and likes to be petted. Here is a better picture of her. Just don’t look at the rest of the room. We are in the process of clearing it out.

She looks a lot like Elvis’s Mom, Hooter. We got her from the same pound when Win was three years old. She died just a few years ago. Maybe that’s why he latched on to her so quickly. He is calling her Biscuit. He said, “It just came to me. I like biscuits”. He really does. Last time I came, I brought some leftover chicken pot pie with four extra biscuits. They were gone as soon as he found them. I’m so glad he is happy with her. I wish that I had found something. I stopped at PetSmart after knitting group, but I didn’t see anything.

Home Again

March 16, 2008
I got back around 3PM. I went for an hour long walk and then dressed to go out to dinner with the neighbors. I have just finished going through my email. I need to answer a few, but not tonight. I think I am going to find my book and go to bed or maybe knit a little. I am not at all creative tonight.

Would you believe that I am related to this person?

We Had Fun

March 15, 2008

Jenn, Kevin and I had a wonderful time last night.  When I get back, I’ll have about 60 pictures.  There is one of Kevin this is out of this world.  It’s scary.

My son and I went to animal shelters this morning.  I didn’t have any luck, but he did.  He fell in love with this little black and white female.  Her fur is medium long and very silky.  She is about six months old and very friendly.  She’s not sure about being held, but she loves to be petted and rub all over everything.  She’s a sweetie.  Doug would love her, but she doesn’t have an aggressive enough personality to get along with Zip.  Maude can get along with him because she acts like she weighs thirty pounds.

Gotta Go

March 13, 2008

It’s time to cross the pond once more. It’s sunny this morning, so it should be pretty driving over the bay. I’m still not awake. Doug snored off and on last night and kept me up. I hope to be back before Sunday afternoon so that I can go to knitting group. No sewing club again this month. They always manage to pick a day when I am not around. Are they trying to tell me something?

Hair Color

March 13, 2008
Since my crazy ex-girlfriend disowned me, I have not been able to get hair color that I can use, so I have decided to stop for now. It will interesting to see how grey I have become. My husband has been thoroughly white for years(and it’s really thin, too) so I still won’t look like an old lady. I have been able to find just about everything but hair color here that has not been animal tested so I guess I can live with grey hair.

I started on a sweater for me last night. I started on a sleeve. That way I don’t have so much to tear out if I don’t like it. I like it so far. Doug wants me to do one with stars.

Pretty, huh?

I did some quilting today. It is so different from dressmaking. You have to be so precise and I like to just wing it. I need to sew, but I don’t need any more clothes. I never would have thought that I would ever say such a thing. I am hoping that I will get this quilting thing down.

Ready to sew together.

It’s kind of lumpy.

The borders are on. Now I have to cut out and applique the hearts. That’s my favorite part. I like to embellish. I also want to embroider a label. I think I have a cat one somewhere. I may also embroider some more hearts and flowers. And, to think, I actually managed to take all these pictures without any cats.

I’m Really Tired

March 12, 2008
I am not used to having to do all this thinking. I am so glad all the forms are signed, sealed and ready to be delivered. When we told the Powers That Be to take out Delaware taxes, we assumed they would stop taking out Maryland taxes. Oh, ye of little faith. So I had to apply for a refund by filling out more forms. You can’t just drop them a line and say, “Hey! I haven’t lived there for nearly two years. Give me my d**n money back.” At least I don’t have to do it by hand anymore. You wouldn’t be able to come within two feet of me. I bite. Ask my husband.

Time to go.
