Olive caught a Mole

May 19, 2009

She was so proud of herself, she wanted to bring it in to show everyone.  We wouldn’t let her in, so she played with it for a while on the sandpile.  I don’t think she ate it.  Too much fur.

And now for the obligatory goose baby picture.051609 023

I managed to get about half of my flowers planted on Saturday.  Yesterday, it rained, and I had knitting group.  I’ve been working on my Red Bird socks.  As usual,   I am thoroughly enjoying these socks.

Scarf for Bella Mittens

May 17, 2009

For those of you who are looking for a food critique, we didn’t go anywhere new last night.   We went to Smith’s again.  As always, the food was wonderful.  Three of us had stuffed scallops and Paul had stuffed chicken.  He always has to be different.  The spinach, asparagus, Cole slaw and macaroni and cheese were perfect.  And s o were the rolls.

I made this to go with the Bella Mittens.  I had most of a skein left and I was still able to make a four foot scarf.  The cable pattern made it possible to slip one end into the other at any position.  I cast on 18 stitches.  I knit three stitches, did the cable, knit three stitches.   It was simple.  I used a size ten needle.

Jeff’s Nursery in Bethel

May 14, 2009

Yesterday, we went down to Jeff’s for ‘Spring is finally here.  I need to buy flowers .’   I tried to be rational and keep to a plan, but it didn’t work.  I picked up whatever I liked.  I figure if Jeff can start it, I can keep it going.  I wasn’t going to buy any hanging plants, but these two were too super to leave behind.

They may not look like much now, but wait until they are in full bloom.  Doug wanted tomato plants and marigolds and he had to have one of these.

051309 006

This bunch of twigs cost me nearly half of what I spent.  It’s a new kind of hydrangea that he has been wanting.

Now, I’ve got to get them planted!  Just seeing them makes me all fuzzy inside.

Elvis is Making Me Crazy

May 13, 2009

He decided to go on a field trip sometime in the afternoon and didn’t come back until around 6AM.  We had looked for him, but had no luck.  Since he’s deaf, calling does no good.   He needs one of those electronic devises they put on criminals and nursing home patients that wander.  Do they come in cat size?

Happy Mothers Day to All You Mothers Out THere

May 10, 2009

OK.  That’s taken care of.  Did I end that sentence with a preposition?  Sorry.  I worked with a woman many years ago who could rattle off prepositions in alphabetical order at will.  Her third grade teacher made her memorize them and she never forgot.  It was something to do when work was slow or boring or for whatever other reason you could come with.   Oops.  I did it again.

Query.  Why is oops in my spell check, but not blog?

I don’t think that I mentioned MD Sheep & Wool.  I got there Saturday morning around 8:15.  I went to the women’s room, bought nasturtiums and took them back to he car.  They hold them for you, but I was afraid that I would have too much to carry or I would forget them.   Besides, it wasn’t far at all to my van.  It pays to come early.  It sprinkled in the afternoon, but not enough to warrant rain gear.  I didn’t buy much, but I probably mentioned that I have enough yarn to last a lifetime.  Maybe when I think I’m going to kick over, I’ll have a contest with the winner getting all my yarn and related paraphernalia.

I found some pink and gray sock yarn to go with my poncho, but lately I have been thinking about taking it apart and making it into a sweater.  I never wear the stupid poncho, but the yarn is so nice that it deserves something better.  I also have some pink and gray skeins in other yarns, so I’m good.  I was supposed to make a scarf with them, but I never did.

Sunday, it rained all day.  But we went anyway.  My sister-in-law can’t go on Saturday.  Maybe, when she retires, she’ll get to see what the real mob looks like.   We still had a good time.  I bought size 3 and 4 needles from Signature Art Needles especially for making mitered squares.  They are amazingly light.  The person that I have been buying pins form for YEARS wasn’t there.  Neither was the Bohus kits from Poems of Color book.
Excuse me.  I have to find something for Douglass.

Glad to be Home

May 7, 2009

I came back Tuesday afternoon, but I’ve been busy so I’m only now getting around to writing.  Jenn came over Tuesday morning with John’s truck and we put stuff in it to take to the dump.  Getting rid of stuff when Doug isn’t around is the best way to do it.  Even so, there were a few things that Win kept that we rolled our eyes over.  Like father, like son.  Last night, she sent me pictures of the house.  It looks like a brighter blue than it was.  Guy’s guys are doing a great job.  They scraped, sanded and caulked before painting.

Yesterday, I had shopping and cleaning to do.  By the time evening rolled around, I was too tired to think of anything to say, so I knit and watched TV.  I had gotten my sock club from Red Bird before going to Reisterstown and only did a little bit before coming home.  I am only changing this one a little bit, but I don’t want to show them until they are finished.  Here’s a picture of the kit for your enjoyment.  Can you see that the black is actually a very dark green?  I am enjoying the way the colors are changing.

I should post something on Ravelry.  I get so lazy with that.  I also need to work on Flickr.  It has been so long since I used it and I can’t find the passwords.  I keep them all in a little book, but Flickr isn’t there.  I’m making myself crazy again.

Cosi Restaurant? on Reisterstown Road

May 4, 2009

Barf!  We just wanted a light meal and stopped here while we were out.  Big mistake.   While we were waiting for our food, the cook came out and said the cheese wasn’t done and he put it back in.  The cheese wasn’t done?  Huh?  They couldn’t even get our order right, but it was similar so we accepted it.  When it was brought out, he asked if we wanted plates.  I was getting scared.  I picked up my knife and fork and tried to cut it.  I asked for real flatware, not this plastic stuff.  They don’t have any.  The bottom was black.   I could only scrape the topping off with  the stupid plastic knife.  Well, I wasn’t that hungry anyway.  I complained.  They didn’t even apologise.  What?

Girls Day Out

May 1, 2009

There was seven  of us this time.  We had a great time.  We ran our mouths for about three hours.  We were loud and other diners were probably not happy about it, but we were oblivious.  Joan went back part-time and I heard they begged  my old supervisor to come back.  Someone said the office has gone from one of the best in the nation to one of the worst.  And I thought it sucked big time when I was working.

Tomorrow is Sheep and Wool so I am trying to have a quiet evening.  It’s supposed to rain, so there will be plenty of wet crowds to deal with.  I hope the pin lady brings some good pins this year because I was not impressed with anything she had last year.  According to Ravelry last night, over four hundred members said they were coming including.  I just hope I remember to head over to the rabbit house at noon.  I also hope that I remember to take my camera.  My neighbor doesn’t believe me that giant Angora rabbits exist.

I used a six needle instead of a seven and I still had to reduce the number of stitches.  I’m not very happy with them, but they are warm and I’ll make use of them.  I liked the charts.  Some of the symbols were strange and the descriptions were bizarre.  The increases were poor and would have left holes in my work if I hadn’t done them my way.

It wasn’t as hot today and there was a breeze.  The air conditioning repairman won’t be here until tomorrow.  By then, it won’t matter.  Olive was really hoping for some cool breezes, but they were outside and she was inside.p1020321

I started this post yesterday, but the Internet kept going and coming and doing it’s best to drive me crazy.

I started a little scarf to match the Bella Mittens I gave Jenn.  I had most of a ball left over.  I have several skinny little matching scarves.  These are much easier to find when I’ve got a hole in my gloves, mitten or hat then rooting through a box of leftover yarn.  It also keeps me from putting it into another project and later regretting it.  I’m hard on gloves. p1010797

I used 10 1/2 needle and cast on 18 stitches.  The first and last three stitches are garter stitch with the single big cable going up the middle.  It should be about three feet when I’m finished.

The MD Sheep and Wool Festival is this weekend.  It looks like it may rain on Saturday, but that won’t keep the people away.  I’ll be there both days.  I always have a good time even though I don”t buy much anymore.  I will be stopping at Signature Needle Art .  I’m so glad they are coming.  I love their needles.  Do you want me to pick up anything for you?  Drop me a line and I will see what I can do.  I am a senile old woman so your chances are 50/50.

I Washed My Socks

April 26, 2009

There will be no restaurant critique this week.   We didn’t go out last night and our neighbor was too tired to on Thursday.   We will probably only go out every other week during the warmer months.

It was unusually hot today so I decided it was time for the annual washing of my socks.  A couple didn’t get washed.  I need to repair them which I hate to do so it’ll be a while.  Maybe they’ll get washed next year.  I’m not rushing into these repairs.  I deliberately hung them on the clothesline.  It seemed the perfect opportunity for a photo op.

Olive was pretty hot today.  She wanted to go out, but it was too hot for her.  She spent the day sleeping in her bowl on the dining table under the ceiling fan.  She’s still a baby.042109-001

Once the sun went down, she went out.  She’s been running in and out.  We probably won’t be able to get her in until midnight.

Thursday, I decided to go shopping in Rehoboth and Lewes.  I hadn’t been over that way for a while and I didn’t dare go over the weekend.  I rode down to the beach at Lewes.  It’s always so pretty there, but it was really windy making it hard for me to walk.  At least I remembered my camera this time. 042109-024

Lewes Cape May Ferry

Lewes Cape May Ferry

We should take the ferry over to Cape May for the day some time soon.  Well, maybe next Autumn.
I stopped at Ginger Moon and bought this ball of yarn.  I hadn’t seen it before.  042109-025It should make a fun pair of socks.  I got some other stuff for a purse.
I never got over to the new yarn shop at Rehoboth Beach.  I got some stuff at the Disney and did some looking,  but it was getting late.  I might go back next week if there’s a cold or rainy day.
