Yesterday, we had a nice long walk, but today it was too cold and windy to go very far. When I got to end of the street, the wind got worse and I headed home. Doug said he was going to walk on, but he was back about five minutes later. On the way out, we noticed a package in the mailbox. I think he just wanted to see what was in the package. Well, it was for me. I had joined a four times a year sock club which is about all the socks I care to knit in a year.
The yarn feels wonderfully soft. It’s merino with some bamboo and nylon. I could make a whole sweater in this stuff. I like the pattern, too. I got it from TheKnitter.com. Now, the problem is—Should this be my next project? I am almost finished the mittens and I have started on the second glove. And I still have one other thing to make. The baby quilt will be finished this evening and I should have a picture tomorrow.
If Zip lets me.
See that little path in my yard? My cats did that the first time it snowed and it’s still there! How could such cute little kitties do such a thing?
Don’t believe anything she says.

I’m working on the second mitten.
I have been looking at quilt patterns. I want to cover my dining room table with a quilted top to help protect it from the cats, especially Zip. He is always in trouble with his “Gotta love me” attitude. I have several ideas, but I need to finish the baby quilt first. I still haven’t put the binding on. I have the fabric. It will either be reds, whites and blacks or pinks and greens. I think I’ll drag out the fabric tomorrow and lay it all out. I am also debating on whether some applique would be good or bad. I really enjoy applique, but maybe not with cats running across it.
I was thinking about making one of these for my Sacred Wiener Dog.

Have I given you the finger lately?
How do you like this one? I did this this morning before breakfast. Fun yarn will do that to you. Aching knees woke me up early today. It was very cloudy all day and raw. Everything stayed wet. I didn’t go very far on my walk.
I worked on the mittens, too.

I bought some books this afternoon and fabric, thread and a shirt pattern on line. I had been waiting to do this so that they would come in the next two weeks. We learned that our mail-person is paid on the number of items she delivers over the next two weeks. We think this bites so we deliberately waited to order stuff.
The quilting is almost done. Then I have to try to even the thing out and put on the dreaded binding. At least Zip isn’t helping this time.

I want to go out tonight. I need to go tonight. Paul is obviously ready to go. He e-mailed us about two hours ago. He always drives and he has that big truck where there is plenty of room in the back seat. What do I want? Seafood, I think. But, there’s that Mexican place and that Italian place down in Delmar. I need to tell them about Myuushi. This isn’t going to be easy.
Ellen sent me her picture in the hat she made with my pattern. Looking good!
I found some flannel that matches the baby quilt. I thought that I would put a border all around it and applique some of the extra animals on it. I have to finish the quilt first if Zip will let me.
He was so bad yesterday that even Elvis hollered at him. And Elvis is the coolest cat in the world and don’t let Zip tell you otherwise.

Yeah. It’s that kind of a day.

When I went walking this morning, it was cold and windy. Now, at 8:30PM, it’s 57. Of course, now, it’s too dark to walk.
One mitten is done. I may finish the top differently. I ‘ll decide when I get to the top of the other one. I’ve got most of the ribbing done on the second one. I should have the baby blanket finished in a few days. The top is mostly quilted.
I had lots of cat help. After he finished cleaning himself, he gave Gus a bath.

Gus tried to clean Zip in return.

We went down to the Food Lion in Laurel late this afternoon. The one in town in dreary. It has been raining all day and the temperature kept dropping all day. By the time we got back, it was after 5PM. We hadn’t gotten anything quick to eat and I definitely was not in a mood to make anything involved. Doug pulled out a couple of Healthy Choice dinners that he had bought a while back. They were so bad that I couldn’t eat mine. I gave Doug a taste of the chicken and he said, “That’s chicken?” The dog liked it, but I think he liked the yucky stuff from the turkey better. Doug offered me a peanut butter sandwich which was a hell of a lot better than that other crap. I should have had a bowl of turkey noodle soup, but I didn’t think of it at the time. It would have warmed me up. Maybe, I’ll fix some tea. I bought two new kinds today.
Christine has tagged me again. The book is Slow Dollar by Margaret Maron. And it is not a knitting book. I actually had four books, eight knitting magazines, numerous patterns and mostly expired coupons sitting next to me. The first two were knitting books. That didn’t work. Page 123 in both were pictures. I then went into my bedroom and got the book on my bed stand. Success!
‘Lamarr quit cussing and beamed at Stevie like an innocent black angel. “We didn’t do the breaking. All we’re going to do is the entering.” ‘ How’s that.
I finished the front of the baby quilt. It was a bit of a pain. The picture blocks were a bit smaller than they were supposed to be. The directions said to use the other fabric to make them the right size. Also, neither the pictures nor the stripes were on the straight of grain. Over all, it is now about one inch smaller than it is supposed to be with no fabric left over. This is why I usually stay with patterns and books or just wing it. This kit was definitely not convenient.

We have a new toilet in the little bathroom. You can put in whatever your body manages to produce. You pull the handle and WOOOOSH, it is gone! No more, “Maybe if I flush it a few more times,” or “Where’s the liquid soap?” And the lid slowly lowers itself when you give it a little nudge. How cool is that?

The mittens are moving right along.
And I put this on my new sweatshirt. I loved the color. Doesn’t it look like the cat has been in the catnip? Who changed the sizes when I wasn’t looking? I don’t buy clothes much anymore. But I would like to know why I had to buy a size larger when I had lost 30 lbs. At least they didn’t mess with underwear. My new panties are a size smaller. Yes!
I haven’t been out of the house today. It’s too cold and windy. The cats have been driving me crazy with going in and out and in and out and in every five minutes. I could wring their necks.

We had a great walk this morning. I even wandered through the woods and hardly used my cane at all. I love my new hip. We were out for one and a half hours. After a little rest, we went to Walmart. I REALLY HATE to do Walmart on Saturday, but there were things that we needed. I was not about to waste time, gas and money going to three different places to get the same thing. I’m too cheap and I need money to spend on my vices like this:
Now, I won’t get to this for several weeks, but I bought it anyway. It would probably not be around when I was ready to make it. I have to make the baby quilt first. Well, I have to make as much as possible before the baby is born. I want to embroider it’s name and date of birth. It’s mainly blue. I think I was thinking of Colette’s grandson, but that’s OK. It’s really cute. I’m sure it will be well received. And just wait until you see what I am making for Colette!
I wish that I had taken my glove things with me to Reisterstown. You know that I didn’t plan to be there that long, but my son needed me around. I haven’t decided on patterns yet. I need to make some swatches. I should email Nancy before I decide, too. I’ve been thinking about Christine and her husband, too.

Or too unorganized. I’m not sure which. I had to clean the bathroom. I had to finish my daughter’s sweatshirt. I had to go for a walk. I had to put Christmas decorations away. I had to do some reading. I had to get cleaned up. I had to go out to dinner with the neighbors. I had to play Dominoes. And now, I have to go to bed.

I made a little scarf out of the a little bit of yarn that was left. I wanted to fringe it, but I didn’t have enough. It’s long enough to tie around my neck.

I spent hours trying to decide on what to put on my daughter’s sweatshirt. It’s a nice soft fleece with a V neck in a dark pink. It was suppertime when I finished one of the designs so the other will have to wait until tomorrow. I had promised Doug that I would make hamburgers with mushroom and onion gravy. He really likes it. I’m not a gravy person. I always make mashed potatoes and peas with it. He tried to make rice one time, but I still made mashed potatoes. I’m not saying I don’t like rice. I really do like rice, just not with this dish. Some things you just do not change.
I stayed in all day today. The road looked clear, not not our driveway. When Doug came back, he said the snow was icy. There was several car slides on the little bridge last night and this morning, but no crunches. The telephone poles along there get replaced about once a year.
See the little bridge on the right? There is a sharp curve before and after. This picture was taken earlier in the week.
I have been thinking about making a Whipple to go with the purple and pink hat and gloves. I think I saw one in Knitty, but I can always wing it. And that will be it for accessories for a while. They are starting to make me crazy. Next up. Baby gifts!
No awards yet. But I have been thinking about it. In the meantime, here’s a cat picture.
