Every year at Thanksgiving, I have to go to the cemetery. I have to. It calls me. I tried waiting until afterwards a few times. It didn’t work. I had to go. I don’t get anything accomplished until I go. And I don’t have any Christmas spirit either. The cemetery comes first. That’s all there is to it. I got out my decorations and my T-pins, but I didn’t leave until 10:30. Doug wanted to get the oil changed first. So I got out the refrigerator roll dough I made last night and made up a few rolls. While they were rising, I got dressed. When Doug got back he took Gus for a short walk and I baked the rolls. I also called Linda to come over and have some. I got out the butter and jam. They were wonderful. They are so good right out of the oven. It takes about two hours to get to the cemetery so I was glad to have Doug come along. He decorated Nannie and Pop while I did Louie. Christmas decorations are much better than flowers especially in Winter. They look so festive. I chat. I cry. I show off my sweater. I wish Daddy were here too. I feel better. I can go on.

November 25, 2008I Talked to My Son Today
November 23, 2008Win’s coming down for Thanksgiving Thursday afternoon. He’s leaving early Friday because he has to work in the evening. I’ll be glad when he gets a regular job. I wanted to make Lasagna, but he asked for turkey and rolls and apple pie. I bought apples when I went to Paradise on Veterans Day, so he is anticipating pies. The pies and rolls are no problem. It’s the turkey. They are godawful big. You have to cook them for hours. It smells up the whole house. The giblets are disgusting. You have to make gravy and dressing. BUT, they have great legs. Once the legs and white meat is gone, I want to throw the rest out. But I won’t. There is always turkey pot pies. I’ll make soup with what’s left. It’s my nature.
I looked out this morning and I saw this lonely duck. She was calling, but no one was answering.
I forgot I had these. They are made out of warm, soft, bunny hair. I’ve started putting together my little sweater. Maybe I’ll have a picture in another day or two.
Nowhere to Go
November 22, 2008Poor Paul is having major computer problems at work so we aren’t going out this evening. I’m glad I have never had any desire to own my own business. I put in nine hours a day and went home.
So anyway—It snowed today—twice!
The kids went out to play for a while, but they soon returned.
Open the door! You stupid human!
Please! Please, let me in. I’ve been out here for hours and days and weeks. Please.
Michael had a good time.
Some Things are Irresistable
November 20, 2008Turtlenecks
November 19, 2008I rode over to LL Bean near Rehboth Beach this afternoon. I could use some new turtlenecks, but I didn’t have any luck. All they had in my size was blue. Not only is it not my favorite color, I already have two. They didn’t have any in my daughter’s size either. They were all regular, no talls. She not all that tall. She has a long body like me. At least she doesn’t have my short legs.
I found dishes with pine cones on them for Paul and Linda. Linda has decorated her kitchen with them. This set has four mugs, four bowls, four dinner plates and four luncheon plates. I don’t know about Paul, but Linda will love them. Paul may be sick of pine cones for all I know. But I do let him play with my cats.
I also bought one of those cutesy fire starter kits for my son-in-law. I never know what to give him anyway.
I got this kit at a shop in Lewes. I don’t know yet whether I am going to give it as is or make it for someone. Since the shop in about half a block from the ocean, I drove down there to have a look. It was very windy with big waves. I wouldn’t have gotten in if it was ninety degrees, but there were some people sitting on the beach. Me? I didn’t even get out of the car.
Intercourse
November 12, 2008Jenn and I had lunch in Intercourse PA today. We had just finished shopping except for the meat. The thrift shop was closed due to renovations so we checked a couple of different shops. I bought some apples for pies and a bunch of other stuff that you can’t find elsewhere. As a matter of fact, I’m munching on some flat pretzels now.
On the way home, we stopped and picked up the kitten. She’s hiding in the back parlor so I put some water and
chow in there and a little blanket in a dark corner. There is all ready a potty in there. Win’s cat has no idea what she is.
When she saw her, she ran back upstairs. I’m going to call her Olive.
Girls Day Out
November 10, 2008I just got back from our semi-annual get together. As usual, we had a great time. Pat retired and has joined our little group. She and I started at the VA on the same day, but she stayed until this year. I really enjoy these ‘get togethers’ and I’m really happy that Diana always tries to coordinate them for when she knows I’ll be in town. I’d come anyway, but don’t tell her that.
Carolyn asked if anyone wanted a kitten and I said yes knowing that any kitten from her would be special. I’ve been wanting another one since The Myuush died last February. This one is calico and likes to play with other cats. She sounds perfect to me. I would have followed Carolyn home, but the kitten belongs to a friend of hers and she has to call her and get approval. I am leaving here Wednesday or Thursday and I really don’t want to leave without her. I know little Maude would love her. Zip’s nose will be out of joint for a while. I’ll have to tell him that he is still the baby no matter what. I am not even certain that Elvis would notice. I was so tired last night that I didn’t even knit. I was “knitted out”. I went to bed early and woke up at 7AM.
This computer is getting weird again. I’ll try again tomorrow.
Today is Friday
November 8, 2008No. Really. It is. By the time I got home from Stitches, my son had gone off with his friends. He forgot to turn
off the password and he didn’t get back until after I was asleep. I hate this computer. I had a fun class with
Vivian Hoxbro today on Shadow Knitting. She said she is not going to teach it anymore and won’t be back to
the United States for a year. She wants to spend more time at home with her grandchildren. I can under stand
that. She’s my age. That’s about all I want to do on this @#$%$# computer. More later.
Polls
November 5, 2008Since it was raining, we went to the polls after breakfast. They are in the local fire hall and the whole process was quick and easy. I did get to laugh at Doug when he forgot to hit the finished key which made it even better. Having done our civic duty, we went to Food Lion. We were low on canned cat food and they have more varieties than Walmart. I bought some other things that Walmart doesn’t carry and I got a nice piece of salmon. When we got home, I made a little marinade for it. Since it was still raining, we decided get some other chores done. We dropped off a little package for Nancy at the post office and picked up a prescription at Happy Harry’s. I used to go to Eckert, but they really went down hill since Rite Aid bought them. Also, Happy Harry’s carries a lot of products that are not tested on animals. It’s so nice to have a variety from which to choose. OK. Where was I? We headed to the bread store. They had oatnut bread so we got three loaves, two for us and one for Win. It’s his favorite, too. I spotted an apple pie on the dollar table and cranberry bread. What more can use ask for? I hope I haven’t bored the life out of you.
Here are two reasons why blogging can be difficult. Another is the fact that it is chilly here when it’s cold.
Wet and Cold
November 4, 2008I’m not wet and cold. You wouldn’t want to be anywhere near me if I was. We’re talking mean nasty grumpy old bitch here. It’s my husband. He can’t tell the difference between wet and cold laundry hanging out on the line. I have told him what to do and he doesn’t listen. Late this afternoon, he brought in a load of clothes and said they were all still wet. He proceeded to hang them on various things around the bedroom. I walked in, pulled them all down, folded them up and put them away right after he left. They weren’t wet. They were just cold. He makes me crazy.
