Two days ago, yesterday and today, but I’ve been busy. I’ve started two night-shirts and a fleece robe for my daughter and a robe for me. I have also decided on my sweater. I’m making the front bands out of a small loop brioche in a rusty brown. It looks g
ood. More next time.
I Meant to Blog
January 15, 2010Yarn & Co, Easton MD and Frivolous Fibers, St Michaels MD
January 11, 2010Maria called Saturday morning asking about going to the yarn shop in Easton. About two hours later, we were finally ready to go. Leslie came too. We were not impressed, but Maria did buy a few things. There was nothing exciting there. The owner was not helpful or friendly. She was more interested in her dog and her knitting. The was another woman there giving a lesson. I thought it was strange that she only wanted the student to do things her way–that there was no other way to do it. Another thing that bothered me was when we asked about other shops, she said there were no others in the area.
Fifteen minutes later, we were at Frivolous Fibers in St. Michael’s. What a difference eight miles makes. In the front of the shop there are various items from local artisans. I bought some of the soap and I was interested in some salt and pepper shakers. The back 2/3’s was filled with yarn. And was it ever eye candy!! We had a grand time. It was almost 5PM by the time we left. It was hard to figure out at first who were the customers ans who were the workers. Everyone was having such a good time. Maria went crazy and had a really hard time making up her mind. I also found it interesting that they had a very large supply of Blue Heron yarns and none in Easton where it is made.
Sunday, I made myself a camera case. I need to get my revised notes on this and update the page. Gotta go!

Camera Case is Finished
January 9, 2010Ham Today
January 8, 2010I finally got out the ham and cooked it. Now my kitchen smells, and so does my refrigerator. It was good, but I could only eat so much of it. Now I have all this leftover. I am going to be so sick of it. I’ll freeze some of it. I could make ham salad, but it’s so messy. The one thing I really like about ham is making bean soup so I guess I’ll have to buy some soup beans. Even then, I won’t be able eat it until the day after I make it. I’ll make some cornbread, too. I have a good recipe that I’ve developed over the years.
I’ve been putting my Puzzle Me This sweater together. There is a lot of three needle bind-offs that make it slow. The yarn is a bit rough and uneven. After I finish, there is the front band to make. I hope it’s worth the aggravation.
I’ve been sewing, too. I patched my husband’s and son’s jeans. I was a bit surprised at the way they smelled. The jeans were clean, but washed in different machines with different detergents. It was like the “man” smell was permanently saturated in them. I also worked on Win’s camera case. I sewed the pieces to the stabilizer. If it snows tomorrow, I may get it completed. I have been jotting down notes and taking pictures that I will be putting on my camera case page.
There’s nothing like cat help.
Ice on the Creek
January 5, 2010
It’s been too cold lately. I have had to wear my jacket and hat and scarf and gloves or mittens when I go for a walk. It also makes picture-taking difficult. I really like having a little camera to slip into my pocket, but I still have to pull my gloves off to use it. It has its short comings that I probably would not notice if it was my only camera. Don’t get me wrong. I really do like it. It’s very handy. It’s nice to have something that I can carry anywhere.
We didn’t get out until 11AM today. It was the first day in several that we did the horse farm and the pier on the river. It was so windy Saturday and Sunday, we only walked our street. Even Gus was ready to go home.
I thought I should include a picture of the ice on the creek. There’s ice on the river, too.
I have started making camera cases again. Since I get hits on the case I made last year, I decided to make a new page. I copied my old entry into it and will be adding pictures and more directions. I even had the sense to put a note on my old entry. Here’s what I have so far.
Hopefully, I’ll start sewing later today.
I’ve Been Thinking
January 3, 2010Another year has started. Should I make resolutions? I don’t normally get off on this sort of thing. But I’ve been thinking. Maybe this year I should give it a try.
- I shouldn’t buy any fabric this year. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a lot of fabric at 50%. I probably have enough to last a few years.
- I shouldn’t buy any more yarn. This may be extremely difficult when I go to Sheep & Wool. This does not include my sock club. And, this does not include knitting accessories. Right now, I have about half a dozen books on my wish list.
- Next, I thought about unfinished projects. I have two sweaters that need to be completed. I could use these sweaters. Two of my favorites are really starting to look bad.
- I also have a vest to finish. It is knit in the round on 2.5mm needles and I’m carrying two colors on every row. One round takes about an hour. I’m about half way up to the armpits. The patterns are beautiful. I can’t work on it for a long time. It can make me crazy. I am not certain that I should be putting this on the list.
- Then I thought about my weight. Maybe I can lose twenty pounds this year instead of the ten pounds a year I have been losing. It might work. But, I’m lazy.
I even thought about taking off from blogging. I certainly haven’t been doing a very good job of it lately. I have also gotten away from trying to concentrate on one subject . I should keep to knitting. But let’s be real here. I am not a single-minded person. I have other interests. I also like to know about other people’s interests. I need to read more.
I made a cap to go with the Heritage Booties in IK Holiday Gifts. I cast on 27 stitches and followed rows 2-9 until it was 16 inches long, then sewed it into a tube. I picked up 116 stitches along the side and knit in the round for about two inches. Then I started to decrease.
R1- k2, k2tog. R2- knit. R3- k1, k2tog. R4- knit. R5- k2tog. Continue to knit two together until there are three or four stitches left, then I-cord for about one inch. Cut a four-inch tail and run through the last stitches, then down through the cord.
I’m sitting here looking at it and I’m thinking that I need to put a tie on it. I hope I have enough yarn left to do it. I’d prefer it to ribbon.
I thought I would show you my gadget. it has what I use the most. Very handy.
New Camera
December 30, 2009My daughter bought my son and me a small digital camera. I’ve been wanting one to carry when I am walking and Win’s is old. It’s something I wouldn’t buy for myself because I all ready have a good digital, but this new one certainly is handy. I took it with me yesterday. It takes decent pictures.
This is the pier that my neighbor lets me enjoy. I didn’t sit there today. It was too cold and windy. I didn’t relish the possibility of going in the river. Can you see how high the tide is?
Jenn came down yesterday with a load of firewood for Doug. She brought enough for two or three years. Doug was happy as can be.
Here’s my goofy Gus. He loves his walk. If it weren’t for him, we probably wouldn’t walk nearly as much as we do.
Flo loves to curl up on my sweaters.
I’ve been looking for my camera case pattern, but I can’t find it anywhere. Win has all ready asked for a case. He wants red. I have a nice metallic knit and some brown suede for the inside. I haven’t decided on mine yet. I have lots of pieces I can use.
And A Good Time Was Had by All
December 28, 2009Well, Merry Christmas Everyone
December 25, 2009Win and I went over to my Daughter’s home this morning for breakfast. There was eggs and sausage and bacon and waffles with strawberry sauce and whipped cream and black bottoms and chocolate chip cookies and coffee and orange juice and I’m stuffed. There was Jenn and John and Kevin and Mee Mau and Cousin Bobby. Brandon brought Rob and Mandy brought Laurie. And the answer to the question currently forming in your mind is yes and no. I took pictures, but they take too long to download here. We had fun. Bo, my daughter’s Maine Coon, was trying to mooch a free meal off anyone that went by the laundry room. At first, he slept on their bed. He had been out all night. It was his idea. He’s a Maine Coon after all. He can take it. By the time we were getting ready to leave, he was sprawled out on the living room floor on top of Kevin’s Lego’s. I tried to take pictures of him. If you think that my Zippo is big, wait until you see Bo. That’s all for now. Win is going to take a nap. Later, we’re going to get Chinese and go to a movie. Isn’t that what you are supposed to do on Christmas? Love you! Yeah, I’m happy.
Doug has a Cold
December 24, 2009I hope want him to be sick on Christmas. I’m driving to Reisterstown tomorrow. My daughter always has everyone over for breakfast on Christmas. I hope he doesn’t miss it. And I hope I don’t catch it. It’s been a long time since I had one. I’m also hoping this snow will be gone soon. It is so incapacitating. I haven’t been out for a walk since Friday. At least it was a good walk.
