Reisterstown is Another World

April 11, 2010

Like everything else, it’s not like it was thirty years ago.  Even in the middle of the day, it takes forever to get down main street.  And they drive like it was DC rush hour.  What happened to the friendly little town I once knew?  Believe me, three days was long enough for me.  This morning, I drove to downtown Baltimore to pick up my grandson.  Mom and Dad were both working.  Again I was surprised at the amount of traffic for a Saturday morning.  And talk about arrogant!!  I am so glad that I live in lower slower Delaware.

When I got home this afternoon, I did the dishes.  My husband hadn’t gotten around to it.  My son had given me a little George Foreman grill for my birthday and Doug wanted hamburgers.  Of course we didn’t have any rolls.  And, of course, he had had a beer, so, of course, I had to drive.  We wound up going to two stores and spending sixty dollars and, of course, I had to make three U-turns on Route 13.  And, of course,  I had a sick headache by the time I was ready to cook.  I hadn’t eaten since 8AM so I had a little macaroni salad and slowly counted to about fifty.  I was finally able to cook.  My son loves his and I must say that the burgers were very good.  I had mine with guacamole and ketchup and sautéed mushrooms and onions and, of course, macaroni salad.  And, of course, I used actual ground sirloin, not that 93/7 ground beef crap that Wal-mart now carries.

And another thing!   I am not at all happy with the changes at Wal-mart.  I have to drive twenty to forty miles to buy fabric now and the notions section looks like something I would expect to see in a Seven Eleven.  And what happened to all the great kitchen stuff they used to have?  I could find whatever I wanted.  Not anymore!  I guess these items are now ‘beneath’ them.  They did one thing that I do like.  The electronics are now in the back corner and not in the middle of the store and in the way.

Time to go knit.

I’m Trying to Blog Here

March 28, 2010

Sometimes I think that my life is so boring that I wonder why I even bother.  I probably should have started when I was still working.  Then I would have had plenty to bitch about.  But I moved away first.  And, really, I am so glad I did.  It is so enjoyable here.  Now, when I drive back, I start to tense up as soon as I come down off the bridge.  I feel like everyone wants to shit on me.  Not my family, of course.  And on the way back home, I get such a wonderful feeling of happiness and calm when I get to the bridge.

This the view from my family room.

Weaving in the Ends

March 21, 2010

It’s what I’ve been doing for the last few says.  This sweater has about 500 million ends that I would like to just knot off and cut, but I won’t.   I like my work to look tidy.  That means weaving in the ends.

I’ve sewed the skeet, but haven’t cut yet.  I’ll do that last.  I’ve really gotten a lot done the last few days, sitting out on the deck enjoying the wonderful weather.  The girls have been going bonkers.  We have been leaving the doors open for them.  They only come in to eat and sleep.

And, here are my Clown Socks!  Are they me or what?  I’m going to wear them to the circus.  I need to finish them by my birthday which is also circus day.

Orne more picture.  This is for Maria.

She is going to make this scarf.  The pattern was free, but didn’t come with a picture.  I hope this helps.  I wanted to copy this to my desktop, but it was being silly.  I figure I can print after I publish this.  Which reminds me, here’s another picture that I need to print.

Doug wants one of these.  We saw it on our walk.

Stars Sweater

March 10, 2010

I finally knit the last six rows.  Yeah.  The shoulder seams were also sewn.  Next, I am going to knit on the neckband.  I may actually get this thing completed.

I have also been sewing.  I found a little flag quilt kit.  It took a while to cut all the little wavy pieces, but it’s been fun sewing the pieces together.

If anyone is interested, I put a new pattern up for gloves.  It’s for my friend who has large hands.  I ‘ll be writing another in a smaller size, too.

I want to see Alice in Wonderland so I called my daughter to see if my grandson wanted to go.  She told me there was a water main break in town.  School has been closed so Kevin has been babysitting has other grandmother.  I couldn’t help but laugh.  She had a knee replacement over a week ago and doesn’t want to do her exercises.  She wants to be waited on.  My daughter can’t stand it.  She and I are very independent and want to do everything ourselves.  I  really  feel sorry for Kevin.  He deserves to see a good movie.

Georgia House Laurel DE

Don’t get the meatloaf.  It wasn’t meatloaf.  It had cheap barbeque sauce on it and was put on the grill.  I assume this was done to give it some flavor as the inside looked like gray-brown mud.  When I think of the number of ingredients that can be put in a meatloaf to make it tasty and interesting to look at,  I was appalled. Maybe, I should add a page for my meatloaf recipe.   Also, the macaroni  and cheese was no better than you get out of a box.  At least, we weren’t charger for it, so Sweetums left a nice tip.  I was also offered a free dessert, but I had made a cake for later.

And, here’s dessert.  It’s a chocolate orange cake.  Last week as I waited in line at the supermarket, I picked up a cooking magazine.  It was “The Best of—–” and turned out to be so good that I bought it.  That’s something I haven’t done in years.  The cake was great.  We ate half of it.

I Ate too much Shrimp

February 26, 2010

And now, my stomach is a bit upset.  But, it was really good. And I haven’t had any in such a long time.  I have had a five-pound box sitting in my freezer for too long.  There is still s lot of it left.  I could make shrimp salad and still have enough left to make a pasta dish.   We are going to be so sick of shrimp.

I have lost track of the age of some of my frozen food so we are going to everything in the freezer before buying any more.  And that’s all there is to it.

Last year was so disorganized.  This year, all I seem to want to do is get things finished.  I think that clearing out the freezer is part of that.

Speaking of finishing, I’ve only got a few more inches on my Stars sweater.  I have got to get that sucker finished, but it makes me crazy.  And I just can’t work on it constantly.  So, I’ve been working a little on my Clown socks in between.

Walking Again

February 23, 2010

I have finally been able to get in a little walk the past couple of days.  I can almost make to the end of our road, but the incline is mostly snow-covered.  It’s so aggravating.  Last night, it started raining and it has really helped in getting rid of the snow.  I will be so happy when it is all gone.  This snow was very heavy and I think we will have to have at two large ones removed.  Also, a holly looks very bad.  It saddens me.  Even though I like the rain for snow removal, it is very hard on my joints.  When I came in from walking, I could hardly get my sweater off.  It’s a heavy, close-knit pullover and my shoulders really protested.  I was going to sew, but I didn’t have the energy for even that.  I had cut out a top and a vest the other day.  The fabric is very hairy.  I had to get out the Static Guard in order to get the hair off my cutting table.  I hope I don’t run into too many problems putting it together.  I’ll probably have to clean my machine a few times while I ‘m making them.

I’ve been cheating on my knitting.  The sweater from hell is taking a back seat to my clown socks.  I had taken the socks to knitting group Sunday and enjoyed working on them so much that I haven’t gone back to the sweater.  My fingers just love little wooden needles.  Flo says she doesn’t mind.

Snow Sick

February 16, 2010

I am really getting tired of this snow.  I can’t go anywhere.  It has been over two weeks since I’ve been out for a walk.  I’m going to become a couch potato and turn into a warm brown turd.  Yesterday’s big event was going to Pizza Hut.  It’s ridiculous.  We need a few warm days and some rain to wash it all away.   All this snow is so depressing.  My girlfriend called this morning.  She wanted to go to the yarn shop in St. Michael’s.  I said my driveway  was clear, but not the loop and my street was still snow-covered.  I invited her up to help her with her gloves, but she didn’t take me up on it.

Even Cora would rather stay inside.

And Again with the Snow

February 11, 2010

Last night, it sounded like rain, but it was freezing.  This morning, it started to snow.  Now it’s impossible to tell how much snow we had, it’s blowing so hard.  Jenn called around noon.  They had around a foot.  She says only emergency vehicles are allowed out.  He doubts anything will be open tomorrow either.  Cora went out a few times, then gave up.

Flo spent the day watching the birds.  Doug had put out some birdseed at the cellar door under the deck.  She was fascinated.

I was planning to sew today.  I’m making a night-shirt, robe and tunic.  Instead, I found another pair of jeans that need alteration.  I liked this little cat for them.  I thought it was right.

No Low Tide

January 26, 2010

We had rain and wind last night.  The wind blew hard enough to send water from bay up the river and our creek.  It seemed so odd this afternoon.  The sun had come out and the tide should have been going down, but the creek waters kept rising.
