I Was Debating

August 10, 2010

I have used up all my space.  So I thought, ‘should I buy more or just say the hell with it?’  I’m a pretty lame blogger.  I’m a retired old woman with not much of anything better to do.  Please observe that I did not say “lady”!

I started this thing to combat Warm Brown Turdism.  It is a horrible  disease.  You see WBTs everywhere.  Have a seat at the boardwalk and watch them go by.  Look at everyone closely, but not too closely.  They scare easily.   What are they thinking?  Are they thinking?   Better yet.  What are you thinking?  What are you doing?  Are you just sitting there?  You better not be texting.  Too much of that causes WBT!  Oh.  You’ve got your iPod.  What are you listening to?  Is it the latest piece of crap that everybody else is listening to?  Or is it Jimmy Reed singing Big Boss Man?  Or Jussi Bjordling at Carnegie Hall?  Or the History of Rome podcast?  Or the Math Dude podcast?  Do you even know that you can use your beloved iPod to actually learn something?  And what about your hands?   Are they just laying there?  All right.  I’ll stop.

So anyway.  I bought more space .  I am hoping to write more patterns, but don’t hold your breath.  No.  Go ahead.  You’ll pass out and start breathing again.  So have fun with that.

Carolyn's gloves

Here’s Carolyn with the gloves I made her.  The fit is good so I only need to weave in all the ends.  I started another pair right away and I have plans for a third pair.  She deserves good fitting gloves as much as anyone.

Carolyn's Coraline Gloves

Look at my Coraline gloves!  I’m so happy.  I love doing this kind of (I’ll say)’stuff’.  I think I’ll make myself a pair in a finer yarn.  You know I love gloves.

After the rain

Cora loves to get dried off with a towel.  I think she deliberately runs through the sprinklers.  She says she got caught when they changed, but you really can’t believe anything she says–like when she says she missed breakfast.

Off to DMV

August 9, 2010

Frank wasn’t coming today, so we took the cars to DMV.  It had to be done by Sunday or they come with a big sledge-hammer and beat your car to death.  You have to take your car there to be inspected at the same time.  This is fine with me.  They also check lights, brakes, wipers and horn and there is no EXTRA fee.  The amount we pay for three cars is less than what I paid for just mine alone when we lived in Maryland.   Delaware is also saving  trees by not mailing out notifications.   If you’re smart enough to have a car then you should be able to look at your tag and know when to bring it in.  They will e-mail you if you give them your e-address.  What more do you want?  Oh yeah.  They have a drive-thru if you pay by cash or check.  You never have to get out of your car.  Is that enough?

Moving Walls

August 5, 2010

Frank was here all day yesterday making a helluva lot of noise.  It wasn’t long before I wanted to hide with the cats.  He put in a long day and I thought he would never leave.  He tried to scare me by commenting on all the bugs crawling out of the wall.  I didn’t bat an eyelash.  When you’ve lived with Doug as long as I have, you learn not to take anything seriously that anybody tells you.  But, then, I’ve never been one of those squealy girls.

yarn room I can only get to a small portion of my yarn. I did manage to get some out before it was too late. One of them was my Coraline glove yarn.Coaline yarn

The orange is off, but it was the best that I could do.  I wanted to get all the colors from one company.  And it had to be the right kind.  This batch is DK weight.  I also have fingering.  Anybody want Coraline gloves?

I’d better go.  It’s starting to rain and I need to do a few things.

Trying Not to Sweat

July 24, 2010

We went out about an hour early this morning and it was ten degrees higher than when it is normal hot.  After one block I said I was going to the end of our road and turning back.  And I haven’t been out since then.  I fixed tuna salad for supper.  I asked Doug to get potato chips.  He tried to talk me into going to the supermarket.   I said, “No”.  So he went to Fran’s and bought chips.  Utz, of course.  He’s such a “sweetie”.   I hate that word.  And people around here use it A LOT.  Two lifetimes ago, when I lived in California, I saw commercials for Granny Goose potato chips.  A cowboy rode up on his horse, reach into in saddlebag and pull out a bag of chips.  Then he said, “My name is Granny Goose”.  I think he was also in a western TV series, but I can’t remember what it was.  I’ll have to look that up later.

I fixed a blouse this afternoon.  A tie had come loose and I didn’t want the girls wandering off.  I am a bit mad at myself for doing a lousy job when I made it so it took me a while to get around to fixing.  It wouldn’t’ve mattered so much if it was store-bought.    I also decided to add embroidery to my nightie.

What Did I Do?

July 24, 2010

I was going to sew.  I never got around to it.  I woke up thinking about blueberries.  So I made blueberry almond coffee cake for breakfast.  Doug ate two pieces.  We went for a walk, but not much of one.  It was too bleeding-ass hot.  And it wasn’t even 9AM!!!  We watched some TV and I did some knitting.  Not even the cats were outside much.  They slept most of the day, went out after supper and came back in.  I’ve been thinking about ‘What’ll I Do’ by Irving Berlin.  I think I’ll try to find  it for my iPod.  I know that it’s been recorded by a few people.  If I could find Irving singing it, I’d be happy.

I Like Pockets on my Pants

July 22, 2010

Whenever I am stupid enough to buy pants or jeans or without them I could kick myself.  Where did that term come from?  I guess you could kick yourself with your heel.  But not me.  First of all is the fear of dislodging my hip.  Dr. R would really be pissed at me.  Then, there’s the fact that I don’t think I could bend my knee that much either.  Oh.  Wait a minute.  I have two legs.  No.  That’s not going to work either.  I would still have to stand on the crappy leg to do all this.  So.  Where was I going with this?  Does it really matter?  OK.  After three years of laying in my basket,  I finally put pockets on my pink shorts.  Oh, yeah.  One sock is finished.

Stinking Up the Kitchen

July 19, 2010

I finally cooked the Italian sausage I bought about ten days ago.   I kept hoping the weather would improve.  I gave it up today and cooked the things.  I hate it when I buy meat at the supermarket and then I want to throw it out.  I have to make myself cook it.  It really was very good.  I threw spaghetti sauce on it and had fresh parmesan cheese.  I cooked tiny shells and peas.  It made a nice tasty meal.  Sometimes, I wonder what is the matter with me.  Maybe it’s the sinus headache that I had all afternoon.

Here’s a better sock picture.  I am very happy with the  stripes.  I worked on them for a little while on the porch this afternoon.  The heat and my headache drove me back inside.  I worked on my nightie, but I had to stop.  I wish I had it finished.

Doug is still ripping up the dining room.  Cora is trying to take up the carpeting, but she hasn’t quite got it figured out. Or maybe she wanted it to stay right where it was.  She’ll change her mind when she sees the nice tile floor.

Beautiful Day

July 1, 2010

When I got up this morning and opened the back door for Flo, I was hit with a marvelously cool breeze.  I  made myself a cup of coffee and went to worry Doug out of bed while I dressed.  We walked around the horse farm without sweating from every single pore.  It was so beautiful sitting out on the pier over the Nanticoke.  When we got home, I took my breakfast out to the deck and watched the ducks.  I had al ready opened all the doors and windows to air out the house.  The girls also love the cooler weather.  They played tag for hours and were in early to sleep.  It is getting down to 58 degrees tonight.  I can hardly wait for a good night’s sleep with the windows open and real air coming in.

Been Busy

June 28, 2010

It’s been too hot to do much of anything outside this weekend.  We took Gus for his walk first thing in the morning and spent the rest of the day inside working in the yarn room.  I looked into every bag and box.  Now, I’ve got two more bags to give to Goodwill and five for  my friends if they want any of it.  I still have more than I’ll use in my lifetime, but it’s too nice to give away.  I may put some of it on Ravelry, but I’m not ready for that decision.  Maybe after the room is finished.

Flo was not helpful.  As a matter of fact, she said we were bothering her.

I have finished one sock.  It’s been fun.  I changed a couple of things including making a shorter leg.

February Lady Sweater is Finished

June 25, 2010

I took several shots of the sweater, but I didn’t like any of them.  I probably should have used my good camera.  No.  I should have gotten Doug to model it for me.  He is good at that.  Too bad, he’s a lousy cameraman.

We went to Dover yesterday.  It was time for my biannual hip appointment.  Everything is still where it is supposed to be and there is no deterioration.  Maybe I’ll have this one for the rest of my life.  I’ll tell you one thing.  I’d fo it again.  It really works.

Afterwards, we went to Joann’s.  I found some flannel backed vinyl for deck chair covers that I liked.  I bought another ruler for quilting.  You can never have enough of those.  And I got a plastic case for my big RA embroidery spools.  I made sure it was big enough by going over to the Viking center and trying it out with a spool from their display.  Sadly, I didn’t get any from Viking.  This one has so much less than what I am used to.

Our next stop was Target.  What a weird parking arrangement that one has.  But, they had the wire storage blocks that we wanted.  We bought two sets and Doug put them together when we got home.   Then he carried the stuff from the other bins and put them in the new ones.  Once the old one was emptied, he rearranged it to fit on the new one.   I went through a lot of my yarn and I have four bags so far that I don’t want.  I also found a purple wrap I designed and made that I have never worn so that goes too.
