I have been wanting to make a quilt for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for a while. I got an e-mail from someone that knew of my involvement with them. In the May issue of Love of Quilting was a Very Hungry Caterpillar quilt pattern. They had a kit, but it was already sold out. You could still order, but they did not know when they would be ready. I started googling and made myself crazy, so I put it in the back of my mind for a while. Yesterday, it leaped forward again so I started googling again. After three hours and three headaches, I said the hell with it. I wanted to go to one site and get everything. Is that so much to ask? Evidently it is. So I went back to LOQ and ordered their kit, but I bought a different backing from some other place. What can I say? It was different. I liked it.
I measured my quilt top this morning. One side is off 1/2 an inch and that’s it. I was so happy. I assumed there would be inches of difference. I won’t have to worry about the border now. No. Wait a minute. I still have to decide on what fabric to use. Jeez.
I have several possibilities, but I only need two.

We were late getting to the doctor this morning. We left at a good time, but there was road scraping going on. It was down to one lane and even stopped at a couple places. Why they would do this in the middle of summer is beyond me. It’s a beach route. Most locals know to get there running around done on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, maybe Monday and Friday. You take your life in your hands on the weekends.
I took the x-rays I had done last week and the ones from six months ago. The doctor said, “You’d be surprised at the number of people who don’t think of that.” It seemed perfectly logical to me to take both sets. He appreciated having both to compare. Everything is as it should be and he wants to see me every two years with x-rays.
Next, we headed over to Joann’s and Viking. I got to see the new Diamond. It is really something! But, I know that I would never use those big hoops. I did like the couching kizmo and the designs for it. That I might buy, but not right now. I did buy a package of the new colored bobbins since I use 4 or 5 different threads. Joann’s had Keepsake Calico and Patriotic fabric on sale. I needed white on white, but this is what I bought. Even the white on white has stars on it. There are a few places where I can send quilts for disabled veterans.
Even though it was 90 degrees today, I put on my new socks with my favorite sandals.

The socks are finished and I have completed an inch on the next pair. Tomorrow, I go to the doctor. We’ll see how much I get done then. I also get my machine back. It had a nice trip to Ohio and is feeling wonderful. I bought it two new presents. If it gets as hot as the weather guy says, I’ll have some time to play with it. Right now, it’s too nice to be in.

I am still trying to decide on Stitches. I have read through every class description that looks the least bit interesting and I have narrowed it down to five. I want to actually LEARN something if I am going to spend the money. Some teachers do the same thing year after year. There are others that I would like to go to, but the class description sounds so uninspiring. I saw a class on Saturday and Sunday that I’m sure I’ll like, but I also want one on Thursday or Friday so i can go to Werner’s for lunch. Hey! I have my priorities! They’re not open on weekends.
These three have been hanging around for the last couple of days. They are fun to watch. I only see them when the tide is low. I want to get a picture of them splashing in the water, but I haven’t had any success yet. The creek doesn’t look like much when the tide is low, but that’s when all the creatures come out.

I got the book and now I have the fabric so I guess I’ll have to make one.

My son and I were over in Cockeysville and a sign said 104 degrees. I should go home. At least the whole house is air conditioned, not just some rooms. When we lived here, we tried a couple of times to get central air. It took several calls just to get someone to come and then they never called back. This happened twice.
I said that I would fix his pants for him, but I am going to take the machine to another room. I wish he had
called about that before I left. I would have brought my Sapphire, but I am stuck with my old piece of s**t Brother.
If this post looks odd, please remember , I am not at my usual computer.

It was pretty humid when we went out on our morning walk. It’s supposed to get hot tomorrow, so I am hoping to get out early.
I found out that Maude has a friend, another female named Cat. She goes over to her house and picks her up and they go off together. She actually sits outside and waits for Maude to come. I am not surprised that Maude has a flunky. She is quite a cat. Look at that innocent face. Behind those eyes lies the mind of a fierce jungle cat.
She is sitting on the scratching post so she can be properly admired.
I worked on some more blocks for the quilt this afternoon. I have four half blocks to sew and then I can start sewing it together. This quilt really has been a lot of fun. I like the step by step idea. It made it less daunting. My socks are coming along, too. And I worked on the big sweater this evening. I feel like I got something done today.

I had on sandals when I went walking this morning so I was only out for about half an hour. The problem being that it rained cows and pigs last night and the ground was soaked and very squishy.
I wore my new socks to knitting group this afternoon. I didn’t mention them, but somebody did notice them. I must say, they did look nice with my red sandals. I have gotten down to the heel on my socks. It has the standard heel, but i prefer what some call the “After Thought Heel”. I think they last longer. I can always change it later. There was an error in the pattern, but I caught it almost right away. Two rows of the pattern were reversed.
I got a haircut while I was down there. No sense in wasting the gas. It’s a forty mile round trip. I am so glad the color that it was dyed is so close to my natural color. It’s about half grown out and doesn’t look too strange.
I finished my album blocks and I am working on the half and quarter blocks. I am making extra full and half blocks as I finish each step.
Before and after. With and without the flash. Is that center square too much? Why do I ask? It’s staying.
Good Night.
P.S. Hope I haven’t bored you too much.

I could have killed Maude and Zip last night. They were both out until after midnight. I could see Zip out by the bulkhead, but Maude was nowhere that I could see. She blends in so well. I told Zip he should take better care of his little girl. Maude rolled her eyes and went to bed. It was warm all evening so they were not coming in. This evening, they are all ready home because it’s chilly. Is this what I can expect all summer? I guess I am just going to have to leave the garage door open.

And another thing, she has been getting up at 6AM, wanting to go out. Have I mentioned the mouth on this cat? It’s unbelievable! I think she could wake the dead. How can such a little cat have such a big mouth? And my big nosed, big red cat? He sounds like he’s about to breathe his last breath. His cry would bring a tear to a gargoyle. Elvis has gotten a bit loud, but that has only been since he lost his hearing.
I got my fabric cut for Step #5 today. I should be able to sew the blocks in the next day or two. Once I get the required amount done, I’ll make some more blocks so that I can widen it. That way it won’t be so much at once. I also worked 20 rows on the sock. I still don’t know if I like the pattern or not. Sometimes it just takes a while.

I finally dragged myself and my machine up to Dover today. After getting around all the shore traffic getting on to route 404, traffic wasn’t bad until I got into Dover. I told Vickie what I wanted and she had a fix for my embroidery arm. She also accepted my coupons even though they were a day late. I bought a Loralie embroidery design and some thread. I’d love to stitch one out, but I will be without my machine for four weeks. I also got some quilting stuff that was on sale at Joann’s. I don’t feel the trip was wasted especially since it’s a forty miles away.
I took this last night.

They are finished. I washed them this afternoon and laid them out to dry on the stove. Then I made banana nut muffins. Doesn’t everybody make muffins for supper? Theywere perfect, but the socks are still not dry. I am happy with this picture. Maybe, I’ll take another tomorrow.
I got out another hank of yarn to make another pair of socks. This one is baby Merino and is unbelievably soft. If I don’t spend too much time in Dover tomorrow, I may be able to start them. I hoping to get the yarn wound tonight. I don’t know. It’s so late all ready and I didn’t sleep well last night. Doug kept waking me up with his infernal snoring.

I was hoping to sew today, but Maude and Zip had other ideas. Under Zip are nine neat little stacks of quilt squares to be sewn.
Step #5 of the mystery was put out last night. I wasn’t happy with the way it was set up. One page had nothing to do with the quilt and there was a recipe at the end of it that I knew I would never make. Since I was not allowed to cut and paste, I told my printer which pages to print and had to hand write a few lines. One page only had three lines on it and still had half a recipe that I didn’t want. I do like to bake, but this recipe was gross.
