Boss

June 7, 2008

MaudeIt was pretty humid when we went out on our morning walk.  It’s supposed to get hot tomorrow, so I am hoping to get out early.

I found out that Maude has a friend, another female named Cat.  She goes over to her house and picks her up and they go off together.  She actually sits outside and waits for Maude to come.  I am not surprised that Maude has a flunky.  She is quite a cat.  Look at that innocent face.  Behind those eyes lies the mind of a fierce jungle cat.

She is sitting on the scratching post so she can be properly admired.

I worked on some more blocks for the quilt this afternoon.  I have four half blocks to sew and then I can start sewing it together.  This quilt really has been a lot of fun.  I like the step by step idea.  It made it less daunting.  My socks are coming along, too.  And I worked on the big sweater this evening.  I feel like I got something done today.

Not My Mother

June 5, 2008

I don’t want to be like my mother and I strive not to be.  I grew up feeling like I was an inconvenience to her.  I don’t know if she even loved me.  When I needed a hug, I would walk to the bus stop and wait for Daddy.  He always smiled when he saw me and he gave me a hug.  I wish he hadn’t died so young.  I miss him.  He wasn’t the best Father, but, you know, I knew he loved me.

We are having some weather here.  Maude was too far away when the rain started, but she came home when it let up.  We were without power for 4 1/2 hours.  I was going to make roasted red potatoes and asparagus, but I have an electric range here, which I am still getting used.  We wound up having hot dogs on the grill.  They were really good.  About once or twice a year, I crave hot dogs so we were lucky.  Neither of us felt like going out.

wavy socksMy socks are coming along nicely.  I didn’t have time to work on them today.  We had to go shopping and drop stuff off at Good Will.  Just as I was getting the potatoes out, the power went down.  Afterward, there wasn’t enough light.  Doug has a great flashlight with rechargeable batteries, but I am used to working under an Ott light.  I tried winding some yarn, but I couldn’t even do that right.

Elvis

June 3, 2008

elvisElvis had another seizure this afternoon and it was pretty bad.  He was sleeping on one of the chairs on the deck.  He fell off and twitched on the floor for several minutes, then laid perfectly still for a long time.  Doug got a beer and a shovel and went around front to our little pet cemetery.  When he got back, Elvis walked over to him and meowed at him.  He just about fell over.  He was so certain that he was dead.  Elvis is still laughing about it.

My girlfriend called me from Arizona this afternoon.  She couldn’t find my address.  We had a nice chat.  She’s sending me a present.  She had asked what my favorite colors were so I am assuming it has red in it.

gerainium

A chunk broke off one of my geraniums last week so I stuck it in some water.  I didn’t notice that it had a bud on it.  It was so small.  Now I have this lovely flower on my little supper table.

Adventures of Maude and Zippo

May 29, 2008

ZippoI could have killed Maude and Zip last night.  They were both out until after midnight.  I could see Zip out by the bulkhead, but Maude was nowhere that I could see.  She blends in so well.  I told Zip he should take better care of his little girl.  Maude rolled her eyes and went to bed.  It was warm all evening so they were not coming in.  This evening, they are all ready home because it’s chilly.  Is this what I can expect all summer?  I guess I am just going to have to leave the garage door open.

Maude

And another thing, she has been getting up at 6AM, wanting to go out.  Have I mentioned the mouth on this cat?  It’s unbelievable!  I think she could wake the dead.  How can such a little cat have such a big mouth?  And my big nosed, big red cat?  He sounds like he’s about to breathe his last breath.  His cry would bring a tear to a gargoyle.  Elvis has gotten a bit loud, but that has only been since he lost his hearing.

I got my fabric cut for Step #5 today.  I should be able to sew the blocks in the next day or two.  Once I get the required amount done, I’ll make some more blocks so that I can widen it.  That way it won’t be so much at once.  I also worked 20 rows on the sock.  I still don’t know if I like the pattern or not.  Sometimes it just takes a while.

200% Humidity

May 28, 2008

noro socksWell, it felt like it.  I was wasted by the time we got back from our walk.  I sat out back with a cold drink and knitted for about an hour.  Then I remembered my Noro socks so here they are, on my feet.

noro socks  I thought you might like to see the heels.

wavy socksI started on my next pair.  This yarn feels wonderful and it’s knitting quickly.  I don’t know whether they are for me or someone else yet.

ZippoMy poor baby was hot.  I asked him if he wanted me to shave him, but he declined my offer.  The fan was doing a good enough job.  Thank you very much.

Noro Socks

May 26, 2008

noro socksThey are finished.  I washed them this afternoon and laid them out to dry on the stove.  Then I made banana nut muffins.  Doesn’t everybody make muffins for supper?  Theywere perfect, but the socks are still not dry.  I am happy with this picture.  Maybe, I’ll take another tomorrow.

I got out another hank of yarn to make another pair of socks.  This one is baby Merino and is unbelievably soft.  If I don’t spend too much time in Dover tomorrow, I may be able to start them.  I hoping to get the yarn wound tonight.  I don’t know.  It’s so late all ready and I didn’t sleep well last night.  Doug kept waking me up with his infernal snoring.

maude & zip

I was hoping to sew today, but Maude and Zip had other ideas.  Under Zip are nine neat little stacks of quilt squares to be sewn.

Step #5 of the mystery was put out last night.  I wasn’t happy with the way it was set up.  One page had nothing to do with the quilt and there was a recipe at the end of it that I knew I would never make.  Since I was not allowed to cut and paste, I told my printer which pages to print and had to hand write a few lines.  One page only had three lines on it and still had half a recipe that I didn’t want.  I do like to bake, but this recipe was gross.

More on Not Tested on Animals

May 22, 2008

I found face wash and face cream that I can use at Rite Aid.  I am so glad.  I was almost out.  It’s Booths.  Walmart stopped carrying Booths which I found most aggravating.  I had a go to the bank and I thought that since it was on the way, I’d have a look.   I also discovered that St. Ives doesn’t animal test, but they don’t have face cream or cleanser.  I went on line, but the Booths website was down for some reason.  I found another site called Kiss My Face which looked promising.  They have a trial size package which I’ll probably get.  Well, I’ve got to run.  Here’s some pictures to entertain you. sleevessox

Drunk Kitties

May 16, 2008

maud and 4 patchesWell, I’ve got things to do so this will be short again.  This is one of the days that I wouldn’t have posted if it weren’t for the fact that I said I would do it every day for a year.

It rained during the night and all morning so we got the cats drug which is always a lot of fun.  Maude tried to get into my squares and went to sleep.

Broken Battery Charger

May 1, 2008
I ordered another one, but it won’t be here in time. I’m leaving tomorrow morning. I have other batteries, but I don’t know if they are fully charged. I want to take it with to Sheep & Wool. Now I have to remember to not take so many pictures. I usually take a bunch and delete a good half of them. I also want to take pictures of the “girls” tomorrow. Poo!

I liked the band at the bottom, so I decided to separate the colors with bands. I know that I should have knitted the first band row, but it’s going to felted anyway, so just shut up. Excuse me. I’m in a mood.

A New Purse

April 29, 2008

I decided that I needed a new purse. Should I knit it or sew it? My sewing cabinet is closed and both machines are on the floor. Besides, I need to work on clue #3 first. Fortunately, I usually have three knitting projects going a the same time. I looked through several books, but I didn’t see what I wanted so I am knitting something I hope will look all right. I didn’t have any trouble finding yarn. Here’s what I pulled out.

The tan and grey stuff is from an Einstein jacket that I made as a sample for someone. The sweater was boring and so was the color so I dressed it up using Nicky Epstein’s embellishment book. I’ll dig it out one of these days and cut off about a foot of the bottom. I don’t like wearing anything that long. I also need to take that stupid hat at the bottom of the picture apart.

We have about two and a half walls painted. Yea. I helped. It rained all day. What else was I going to do? Elvis helped too.

Maude went out when the rain had stopped, but we had a downpour while she was gone. I don’t know where she was, but when she finally showed up four hours later, she was soaked.
