Like Father, Like Son

December 8, 2011

My daughter called Saturday.  Did I want to go Christmas shopping on Monday?  She had forgottened that she had claimed two days months ago.  I was thinking it was really that time again.  So Sunday I left for Reisterstown.  My son left shortly after I arrived.  He had made other plans.  He has wi-fi and high speed internet and I had my laptop so I was good.

Monday, she came over,  we made our plans and took off.  At lunchtime, we checked our notes, updated our lists and headed out once more.  We got back around 5:30.  Our mission was accomplished.  We’ve been doing this for many years.  We both have young sons and husbands that drive us crazy.    A chore is turned into a joy.

I said good bye to my daughter and came inside to find my son looking in the bags.  He knew that I had been Christmas shopping and he just had to look.  Arghh!!  I tried to scold him, but it’s so hard when he is over a foot taller and smiling at me.  So I just hit him.  He makes me crazy.  And what did he want to do this evening?  Go shopping.  He always wants to go shopping when I come.  I think he doesn’t like to go by himself.  Does he do this when his girlfriends comes?  I would think he’d have other things on his mind.

When I got home, Sweetums helped me bring everything inside.  And what does he do as soon as he puts the box down?  I found him with his face in a big bag.  Arghh!!

Sweetums Needed New Shoes

August 25, 2011

So we drove over to the Rehoboth outlets.  I wanted to look into the Dooney Bourke and, of course, Fossil.  We were on Route 9 to get to Route 1, when we came upon signs that said Detour and Shoulder Work Ahead.  Only it wasn’t.  It was Extreme Makeover.  I was surprised at how much work had been accomplished and how well organized eveything looked.  I believe they started on Monday.  That’s a really big soup kitchen.  It was a little slow due to rubber neckers.  But what do you expect?  This is LSD you know.  Around here, when a workman says he’ll have it done by Christmas, you need to ask which Christmas.

Further on down the road, we stopped at the dairy farm and got chocolate shkes with black raspberry ice cream.  It was so good that I got brain freeze.  It’s a good thing I wasn’t driving.

Sweetums only likes one kind of Reeboks.  Yeah.  I know.  Boring.  But I can’t point the finger.  I only wear Haflingers.  He parked by Fossil and walked over to Reeboks.  He was finshed by the time I came out of Fossil.  I bought a change puse.  I didn’t see anything else interesting.  I went to Dooney & Bourke and he followed me.  Here, again, I saw several things, but that was ‘just right’.  Sweetums liked a red suede, but it wasn’t quite right.    He is now looking at purses on-line for me.  That’s why I call him Sweetums.

Blogging When Grumpy—-Not A Good Idea

August 6, 2011

Is it the arthritis?  Is it the weather?  Is it the cataract?  Is it natural?  Well.  Yes.  Actually, it’s good to rant and rave.  It feels good to put it all into words.  It feels real good.  Just don’t publish it.  You’ll regret it later.  Enough!

I’ve been making hats.  I have several single skeins of lovely yarn.  I have had about six thousand hits on Victoria’s Cloche so it made sense to use that pattern.

I loosely followed the slouchy tam on the other two.  I saw a hat with a cabled brim so I tried it.  I’m not certain that I like it.  It’s too hard to see for the work involved.  There’s a couple more to go, then I’m back to socks.  I’m three pair behind schedule.

I also want to thank Sweetums for being —- sweet through all my grumpiness.

The Network was so Slow……

May 28, 2011

It was making me crazy.  It was worse than dial up.  Sometimes this happens.  But not for a day.  Sweetums went around checking connections and unplugging and replugging because “THEY” always tell you to do that first.  So we finally had to give up and call.  Of course, they had to ask more dumb questions.  And, finally, we are up and running again.  I had important stuff to do yesterday, like pay bills and order crap.  I wasn’t exactly in the mood to blog after that.  And, well, it was nice outside.

I finished the Scrolls Socks on Tuesday.  The wrong side looks as good as the right side.

Here’s my first from Rocking Sock Club.  They are a lot of fun to knit, but too thick to wear any time soon.  I hadn’t made this type of heel for a while.  It was a little slow at first.  My third kit should be coming any day now, so I should get back to it.

I’ve Been Kind of Busy

March 16, 2011

And I’ve been having these little anxiety attacks.  Spending money on home improvement and doing the taxes hasn’t helped any.  Last week I spent the afternoon entering figures and hollering  at Sweetums to bring me stuff.  See.  That’s how we do it.  He spends weeks hollering at me to do the taxes.  I spends weeks coming up with all kinds of excuses.  Then, when one day, I pop in the CD and get to work.  I crunch the numbers and Sweetums runs around getting the information I need.  Now.  It seems to me that I said ‘holler’ too much.   We don’t fight or even argue much.  It’s all part of a big game we play.  We really do get along quite well considering how independent we are.  OK.  Wait a minute.  How did I get here?  Anyway, after spending a few hours on the taxes, I had to stop.  The numbers were not coming up like I thought they should.  I shut it all down and walked away for a few days.  Saturday, it came to me.  I had forgotten to check something.  How the h**l did I manage to do that?  By just walking away for a few days, I saved us about a thousand dollars.  I was so happy.  And so was Sweetums.

I remembered to take my little camera when we went for our walk on Saturday.  After all the rain on Friday, the tide was really high.  This was the only pier under water at that time, but you could where the water had at least splashed over the others enough to leave debris, including a duck decoy.

It’s Been a Week

November 22, 2010

I was busy.  I didn’t feel like it.  I had a little cold.  I was too grumpy.  Take your pick.  Or, pick them all.  And now for some good news.

The new kitchen cabinets have been fixed and reinstalled.  Sweetums has all ready taken all the hanging pots and pans down and put them away in drawers.   However, he needs to learn that the heaviest ones do not need to go in the bottom drawers.  He also took down the ugly, dirty rack.  No one is in danger of getting hit anymore.  The next thing on our list is taking down the wall.  I hope it is in Frank’s repertoire.

The tunic is finished.  I need to wash it again before sending it off.  I love this pattern.  It’s so great for winter.  I also loving having both my machines up and running at the same time.  Making this garment took so much less time than the others that I have made.  Sewing is fun again.

Cotton Briefs

September 13, 2010

Here we have three pairs of cotton briefs–all the same size.  You will observe that the crotch in the middle is much more narrow than the other two.  Do you have any idea how uncomfortable that is?  In case you are wondering if they may be a store brand, there are not.  They are Haines for crying out loud!  The ones on the right are JMS which is part of Haines.  Does this make sense?  Oh.  And they are also longer, almost too long in fact.  Now.  I am not tall, but my torso is.  My pelvis is wide, hence the desire for a wider crotch.  Yeah.  I’m built like an old world peasant, but I’ll bet I’m a lot better at natural childbirth than you are.  At least, I’ve got something going for me.  Anyway, where was I?  BACK TO PANTIES.  I just don’t understand.  Why the difference?  Thank heavens for Fruit of the Loom.  They fit just right!  Thanks Fruit of the Loom guys.  And what about my Haines and JMS panties?  They are ALL in the Goodwill bag.  I did throw two pairs, but the others I had only worn once.

We got a new RED coffee pot.  The one we had a very small area to pour in the water which made neat pouring practically impossible.  And it was on the right which made pouring almost impossible for me and as much water wound up on the counter as in the pot.  It also had too many doo dads.  This one has a large opening, one on/off switch and it’s RED.  Have I mentioned that my favorite color is RED?  Or have you all ready figured that out yet?  How can I go wrong with a coffeepot that matches my glasses?

In other news, I’m going to Bismarck, ND later next month.  I am having a helluva(great word!) time picking a flight.  It’s a real pain.  When I had to travel for work, there was this guy that we called.  I’d tell him where and when I was going and if I needed a car.  He would call back with the conformation and send me authorization.  It was great.  Now, I’ve got all this other crap to deal with.  It does not seem to matter which website you use.  They all seem to have the same price and the same information.

And now Sweetums keeps telling me to go on Thursday and return Tuesday.  He says I shouldn’t wear out my welcome.  The way I look at it is I would only have three days to enjoy myself.  Two days would be for travel, one day to unpack and re-pack, one day to unwind.  The way we chat on the phone, I really don’t think I’ll ‘wear out my welcome’.  This is someplace that I have never been before.  I’d like to have enough time to look around.
