A Pie Making Day

November 7, 2012

Even though I would prefer to knit with the Warrior Princess in my lap, I made an apple pie.  This is my third this season.  I have enough apples left for two ans a half more pies, so I’m debating on getting more apples.  Two and a half  just doesn’t sound like enough.  A trip to Weber’s is planned for this weekend and Monday we’re going to Bird-in-Hand.  I’ll have two opportunities to buy apples.  I really should do it.  They are not nearly as time-consuming as they used to be.  Store bought pie crusts are now as good as I used to make.  Several years ago, my daughter gave me a crank operated peeler, slicer, corer.  Sometimes, I still need to do a little peeling and/or slicing.  Winesaps are rather misshapen so it happens.  Actually, I think my pies are better than ever because I can make them quickly and easily.

It’s All My Fault

October 30, 2012

Ever since I was a little girl, I hoped for a hurricane named Sandy.  Well, Sandra would have been even better.  You can’t have everything.  I just never thought it would happen.  It’s so far down in the alphabet.

I was wondering what this lump was in the middle of the creek, then I realized it was my sprinkler pump.

See  that sign on the right?  Are you interested in waterfront property?

Here’s Sweet Baby Rue watching the geese.

They were having so much fun, he thought he’d give it a try.  He changed his mind when his feet kept sinking into the muck.

I thought I should mention that these were taken at mid-tide.  Rue would be in several inches of water if he were there now.

New Sink

New Countertops

New Back Splash

Did I mention the island with its butcher block top, electrical outlets and four enormous drawers?

And it’s approved by Flo.

No range hood yet.  It’s too hot in the attic to lay in the electric.  We could paint, but who wants to do that.

How Did I Become this Organized?

August 10, 2012

I’m not a ‘place for everything and everything in its place’ kind of  person.  It’s all Sweetums’ fault.  He keeps creating places to put stuff and actually puts stuff in them for me.  It’s scary.  If he brings home a coffin, should I run?

Watching Mushrooms

June 16, 2012

Almost as much fun as watching turtles.

The Delmarva peninsula is one big pile of sand so it’s possible to watch them pop up.

What was I Going to Say?

June 4, 2012

I sat down to write, but I had mail to read.  And then, I wanted to see what Otis and his brothers were up to.  Is it going to rain?  Should I go ahead and order that book everybody has been talking about?  What’s on TV tonight?  And on.  And on.  And on.  Oh, yeah.  I was going to blog about………. What?  Horse feathers.  I don’t know!!!

So this is what have I been up to:

  • The front band on my vest is almost finished.  It looks pretty good, but it made need a little tweaking before I give it to my daughter.  It’s been a fun knit.
  • I steamed five pounds of shrimp the other day.  After we had our fill, I peeled the rest for salad, shrimp fried rice and anything else I can think up.  We won’t be wanting shrimp again for a long time once we finish it.
  • I got shots in my knees this morning.  I’m already noticing a difference.  We’ll see after our walk tomorrow.
  • Dot has been giving Olive a hard time lately.  I think she doesn’t her picking on Flo or she just doesn’t like the noise.  Maybe she wants to be boss.  That’s fine with me.
  • My sock club came.  I’m not real thrilled with the colorway, but it will go with a lot of things.  I definitely like the sock pattern.  There is also a little shawl pattern that is kind of cute.  I’m not much on shawls.  They tend to wind up as cat beds.

Wow.  Not bad for not knowing what to say.  Was that a double negative?  Where’s an English teacher when you need one?

Always an atention getter.

Front Band for Aztec Plaid Vest

May 27, 2012

I was happily knitting on the vest when I realized that the band just didn’t look right.  I worked several more inches hoping that it would look better.  But it didn’t.  It got worse.  What do I do?

What do I do?  Why, rip it out of course.  I only had to make one cut in the yarn and that was due to the two rows that had the same yarn in the patterning.  So, I could say that there were no unnecessary cuts.  When I finish this front I’ll make an attached band my way.

Except for two perennials, I’ve gotten all my flowers planted.  Now I can relax and enjoy them.  I still haven’t heard from the yard guy.  Does that mean I have to look for another?  Pook!

Perturbed

May 22, 2012

I’m a mite perturbed right now.  So I stared out at the creek for a while to unwind.  How could this not make you smile?  Will I ever tire of it?

Quiet Morning

April 30, 2012

Our morning walk was very enjoyable today.  It was overcast and the air felt thick, but also peaceful.  There were a few people about and we waved, but there was a feeling of aloneness.  Sweetums felt sleepy, and now, I believe he has gone back to bed.  I sat on the pier and watched the geese across the river.  There were a litter of goslings over there and many adults.  They saw Gus and came over honking the whole trip.  They can get pretty raucous.  They don’t really do anything.  They swim around for a while and wander back to the other side.  I am not certain what they gain by this.  Gus doesn’t pay them any attention.  He likes to wade and drink river water.  I guess it has more flavor.    The cats are the same way.  We always keep a big water bowl out on the back porch.  It gets the most use after it’s been sitting there for a few days collecting various leaves, twigs and acorns and, of course, turning a nice shade of green.

I need to get ready for Sheep&Wool.  I’m taking classes on Japanese knitting on Thursday and Friday.  Several of my knitting friends think I am daft, but I like taking classes.  Remember.  I try to learn something every day.  I figure I’ll learn enough for a couple of months worth of not having to think.

New Diner in Town

April 7, 2012

Let’s just say, ” I won’t be going back.”

Sweetums asked me where I want to go for my birthday.  Did I say one of those fancy places looking out at the ocean?  Nah.  I want to go to Smith’s.  I don’t care that it looks like a basement that was finished in the sixties.  There is one consistent quality about the place.  The food is good.  What more do you want?
