You Go Girl!

December 12, 2008

My daughter called me yesterday, absolutely livid.  She had ordered a laptop from Dell for my grandson for Christmas and told them to send it to me.  Kevin gets home from school a lot earlier than she does and he is very nosy.  She knew she couldn’t count on John to be home in time.  He has no sense of time when he’s out on a job.  A few days ago, she called to make sure there wouldn’t be any screw-ups.  Well.  It never showed up here, but it did there.  To make matters worse, there was a picture of it on the side of the box.  She was going to call today and give them a piece of her mind and she expects to get something out of it.  Knowing her, I’m sure she will.  That’s my girl!

I’ve been working on Latvian socks.  I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get them over my heel so I got out a circular needle and slipped the stitches on it.   I got them on.  Hooray.  I hate to take stuff apart.  I really like working this pattern.  It moves right along.  I’ll probably get to the heel tonight.

Here are the needles I’m using.  I love them.  I got them at Stitches.  I had read about them, didn’t want to spend the money without trying them.  They are lightest metal needles that I have encountered.  I usually only use wooden double pointed needles.  Each needle is blunt at one end and pointed at the other and they have four inch lengths.  These work.

Last, but not least, I got a Christmas present today.  Last week, Doug had gotten me Rigoletto on CD.  I had the records at the other house.  When I went to put it on the CD  part didn’t work.  Well, he found a Sony mini-stereo and it came today.  He set it up rather than wrap it up.  When I put on the CD and Luciano started his aria, I started to cry.  I have heard him in concert twice and I am still overwhelmed by his perfect voice.  I am surprised that the neighbors didn’t complain.  I had the speakers on max.

I Accomplished Something

December 5, 2008

I paid my bills and ordered the rest of my Christmas presents.  There were no phone calls, no stamps and no driving.  Don’t you just love technology?

Just check out the socks!  Speaking of socks, only five inches left on my red socks.

Stitches Market

November 7, 2008

I got back to Reisterstown about 1:30 this afternoon.  I dragged all my crap out of my van and into the house.  I threw the bed sheets into the wash along with some other things I found laying around.  I got cleaned up and drove to Jenn’s bank to get dollar coins and have a chat.  I was going to stop at Taco Bell before heading to the subway, but then I remembered that the Mars supermarket had really good tuna salad.  I went in and got a pound of salad and two half gallons of Donald Duck orange juice.  Have you fallen asleep yet?  So I went back to the house and made a sandwich and poured myself some orange juice.  Then, I headed downtown.

Polls

November 5, 2008

Since it was raining, we went to the polls after breakfast.  They are in the local fire hall and the whole process was quick and easy.  I did get to laugh at Doug when he forgot to hit the finished key which made it even better.  Having done our civic duty, we went to Food Lion.  We were low on canned cat food and they have more varieties than Walmart.  I bought some other things that Walmart doesn’t carry and I got a nice piece of salmon.  When we got home, I made a little marinade for it.  Since it was still raining, we decided get some other chores done.  We dropped off a little package for Nancy at the post office and picked up a prescription at Happy Harry’s.  I used to go to Eckert, but they really went down hill since Rite Aid bought them.  Also, Happy Harry’s carries a lot of products that are not tested on animals.  It’s so nice to have a variety from which to choose.  OK.  Where was I?  We headed to the bread store.  They had oatnut bread so we got three loaves, two for us and one for Win.  It’s his favorite, too.  I spotted an apple pie on the dollar table and cranberry bread.  What more can use ask for?  I hope I haven’t bored the life out of you.

Here are two reasons why blogging can be difficult.  Another is the fact that it is chilly here when it’s cold.

Politics

October 31, 2008

It’s not spoken here.  I am so sick of the back stabbing and mud slinging.  I do vote, except for that time I was in the throes of a really violent period.  You know what I mean.  You sit in the bathtub and cry for two days.  Anyway, I find myself voting against the last several years, rather than for.

This just came from Red Bird in Toronto. They have great patterns.  I had totally forgotten about them.  I used to get stuff from them years ago.  They are in my favorites on my old computer at my old house.  I wonder if my sons has gotten the designs off the old one for me yet?

This club comes four times a year also so that makes eight pairs a year.  If I keep both clubs, I will probably have another sock giveaway.  I assume that you have noticed that it is two colors?  And didn’t I say I wanted to make something with just one color?   Well, I just can’t help myself.  Look at that pattern! Look at those colors!  Need I say more?

The idiot on the point is trying to save his land and has hired some hoodles to do it.  The job they are doing is so poor, it’s laughable.  That bulkhead is older than the one we had replaced before we even moved here.  It needs to be removed and a whole new one put in its place.  All they are doing is driving some posts into the muck.  Water has been seeping up under it for years.  You can’t even walk around there after  a rain.  But, what do I know?

Sadness from Pheonix

October 29, 2008

I received an e-mail from my girlfriend a little while ago.  Her husband was laid off.  He might be getting another job, but they would have to move to North Dakota.  She said she was scared, but she still ended by saying that she would let me know if the people there have fur.  You’ve got to love her.

The downward slopping economy hasn’t effected us much so I’ve been a little blind.  My husband and I never had to worry about losing our jobs.  I can’t talk about this anymore.

It rained all night and most of the day so we went to Walmart.  I needed a crochet hook size D.  I should have one, but I can’t find it.  They don’t carry the needles I need.  Maybe I can find them at Stitches.  I also bought a new pair of jeans.  Suddenly, all of mine are pretty ratty.  Please note, they are a size smaller.  Then, we headed over to the food.  When I think about it, we have always been a little frugal like buying extra of what’s on sale.  The house we lived in was less than what we could afford, but we paid for four years of college for our son.

Darn, I keep getting moody.  Here’s a cat picture.  I’m going to knit.  And there better be something good on TV!

Einstein Jacket

October 25, 2008

The I-cord along the bottom is finished and the ends are tucked inside.  It has a tidy look.  Before, it just looked sloppy.

This is not a good picture of the back.  I should take a close up.  Now that it is completely mine, I am trying to add more color to it.

I am not sure yet about this collar.  It’ll stay for now while I work on other parts.

Hunting season must have started today.  I was awakened by gunshots around 7:30 this morning and they have started up again.  Sound really carries across the river.  I assume daybreak and twilight is the best time.

Sorry

October 25, 2008

I think I got a little carried away yesterday.  Sometimes it’s hard to come up with something every single day, but I’m trying.  I guess I’ll just move to one of those states and live in a cave and eat worms.  That’s one way to lose weight.
