It wasn’t raining exactly, more like a fine mist. In the mid-forties made the air feel chilling and raw. We only went to the end of the road this morning. Even Gus was ready to go home and stick has head back under the bed. I really hope the sun comes out soon. I miss those warm sunny days we had. This weather puts me in such a bad mood.
Cora was disappointed that her picture was not in yesterday, so here she is. It’s not a good picture, but she was mad at me at the time.

My socks will be finished today, except for the toes. I want my daughter to try them on first. They should fit. Her feet are only a half-size bigger than mine.

I can’t decide what to start on next. There’s the vest, but another sock club arrived and I don’t like getting behind on them. Maybe after I get all the yarn rolled, I’ll know.

It’s a rainy day and I seem to be the only one up and about. Even Sweetums is sleeping. I started a pot roast. Sweetums really likes them. Me? Well, let’s just say that the thought of eating it for four of five meals does not appeal to me. This is one of those times when I wish that my children lived closer. But they need to live where they can get a good job. And I am not about to give up my little creek and the laid back way of life that is Lower Slower Delaware.
I seem to have these little balls of fur lying around today.

And some not so little.

I want to thank everyone for all the Happy Birthday’s that I received. It’s been a crappy week for me. I didn’t open my laptop for several days. Seeing those messages really made me feel better. To make a long story short, I was given a new prescription for arthritis and it really did a number on my bodily functions. The side effects were definitely not worth the little bit of relief I got.
The mittens are finished and I have started a pair of socks. I was going to make a scarf, but after trying several patterns, I went with socks. I am using a similar mosaic pattern.

I also made a little topper for the new kitchen table and I started some placemats, too.

Sorry, this post is kind of boring. I’m still not bright-eyed and bushy-tailed yet.

Since these are a little big, I thought I would line them. I have about thirty skeins of baby alpaca that I had bought at an estate sale years ago. I can’t help but wonder if they were leftovers as most of the colors don’t match. This yarn feels lovely and will conform to her hands as she uses them. Did I mention that these are for my daughter? They’ll come in handy for those nasty winter days when she has to go to work. Or when she is playing with her favorite toy, the snow blower. Yeah. She’s different from me. But it doesn’t mean I love her any less.
I had trouble picking up stitches. I changed from metal needles to wood in order to get a better grip on the alpaca. The mittens are eighty stitches wide so I picked up seventy-two or ten per cent less. I did the same with the thumb. I also discovered that I knit fewer rows overall. I’ve been working on these for a month now. I will be so glad when they are finished. What’s next? I have another vest planned, but I just received some lovely sock yarn.

Why do I have to make this so difficult? It’s only a pair of mittens. But they’re for my daughter. And, she’s—well–great! No one could ask for a better daughter. What did I do to deserve her? So, they have to be special. Getting them ‘just right’ hasn’t been easy, but I think I finally did. The purple is so rich and the two glitzy yarns all needed to stand out.

No. Not me. Although, I have mentioned to break my little toes a few times, they still work well. I’d say my hands and feet are the only things that still work well on me. If anything ever happened to my hands and I couldn’t knit or sew, do the humane thing and just take me out and shoot me. Please.
It’s my cutting table. I have one of those cheap folding kind with rollers that wear out quickly. I could get one of those fancy expensive ones, but they don’t fold up and move easily. This one I can stick in a corner and I can move it around without any help. I think that we can all agree that I am a bit independent. But that’s why Sweetums loves me.

And this is why I love Sweetums. The new leg fits over the old and the caps slide easily over the floor. I’m so happy!

My daughter picked this pattern, but she wanted it long enough to cover her bottom. There are large windows behind her at work, but she doesn’t care to wear a sweater. Since the vest is knit from the top down, it was easy to get the right length. I only bought one ball of yarn for this vest. The rest came out of my stash. I stayed mostly with purples and grays to give it a classy look.

I was sitting on a bench over the river this morning and I couldn’t help but think how lucky I was. We have a nice home on the water in a pleasant neighborhood. We can afford to make improvements to make our home even more perfect for us. All those years of working hard paid off. When I was young and struggling, I never thought that I would have anything like this. I learned early that the only way to change anything was to do it yourself. Something my lousy education certainly lacked. I am as happy as I possibly can be.
Wait a minute. Did I just say that? I’d better be careful. I’ll ruin my reputation. I mean, if I were one of the seven dwarfs, I’d be Grumpy, so these feelings are kind of strange for me.
Our kitchen is coming along. We still have some decisions to make. The little round table is nice for two, but a small island would help. Sweetums was considering an attached rectangular table. Interesting. After the island, we need to consider countertops. Oh. And a hood.

It takes pictures. But it doesn’t give them back. I tried two different cords and two different computers. It taunts me by saying, “Yes, I’m connected”, then it says, “Fooled you” and turns itself off. Hyperventilate Mumble. Mumble.
I had some good pictures on that camera–like the animals enjoying the wonders of the Sacred Banana and my knitting and the ongoing saga that is my kitchen.
Frank has been doing a great job on re-purposing the old cabinets. And with the old stove gone, the floor can be finished.

We keep moving the chow, but the cats still manage to find it.

For a good month now, I have managed to avoid Sweetums’ cold. But, it’s finally got me, right in the chest. This can’t be happening. I’ve got things to do. Everything is such an effort. Since it was raining, I took a shower this morning and washed my hair. Usually I feel great afterward. Today, I was exhausted by the time I was finished. I could just beat him.
