Since these are a little big, I thought I would line them. I have about thirty skeins of baby alpaca that I had bought at an estate sale years ago. I can’t help but wonder if they were leftovers as most of the colors don’t match. This yarn feels lovely and will conform to her hands as she uses them. Did I mention that these are for my daughter? They’ll come in handy for those nasty winter days when she has to go to work. Or when she is playing with her favorite toy, the snow blower. Yeah. She’s different from me. But it doesn’t mean I love her any less.
I had trouble picking up stitches. I changed from metal needles to wood in order to get a better grip on the alpaca. The mittens are eighty stitches wide so I picked up seventy-two or ten per cent less. I did the same with the thumb. I also discovered that I knit fewer rows overall. I’ve been working on these for a month now. I will be so glad when they are finished. What’s next? I have another vest planned, but I just received some lovely sock yarn.
