Wood Ducks

April 9, 2008

There were Wood Ducks out by the island this afternoon. They were enjoying the creek bottom. An Egret came by later, but both times I couldn’t get my camera out in time.

These came in the mail today. I don’t know when I’ll get around to making them, but I liked them and they were cheap.

I finished one sock last night. It fits perfectly. I hope to have the other one fixed in a few days.

No SUn Again

April 8, 2008
Fifty degrees, cloudy and drizzling sucks! It can really make a person grumpy. Luckily, Linda was full of gossip toady. She wants to punch her other neighbors lights out. I don’t blame her. The man is a pompous ass and his wife is a class A wimp. Her ranting and raving lifted my spirits. She’s really good at coming up with scenarios of what she would like to do to him. I had called her to tell to look out her window. And this is what we saw.

There was also a Great Blue, but I couldn’t get them all in the same shot. There is also a duck nesting on the same island as the goose. I hope I am home when they begin to hatch. I was last year. They were born in the pouring rain. I don’t guess it mattered to them, but I had to watch from inside.

I got some mending done and Zip helped me finish my blue sweatshirt. Of course, he had his own opinion about what should be done.

I’m 63 Today

April 8, 2008
I’m glad to still be alive. Being 62 bothered me. I had to see a cardiologist last year before hip surgery. After some tests, they discovered nothing. I was relieved, but still bothered. I have known of too many people that died at 62. I have all this yarn and fabric and all the other crap that goes with it. It was stupid feeling this way. Now I feel like I have a good twenty years to go. I’m sure my daughter would be relieved because Doug would give her all my stuff. She’s more mechanical than creative. She sews and embroiders beautifully, but she prefers to read and follow directions. I read directions and do whatever I want anyway. I love her dearly. She is the best daughter. She is a great Mother. She is a better Mother than me. Ask my son. When he was little, he called her his “Mommy Sister”. I may not be a great Mother, but I am better than my mother. We won’t get into that here. Anyway, she sends me the best cards. They make me feel so loved that I can’t help but cry. Kevin is so lucky to have her for a Mother.

She also has great hair.

Not Much

April 7, 2008

I counted out my four patches and put them in neat little piles.  I have one of those plastic rulers that is 3 1/2 inches square and I decided that they are close enough.  Quilting is so different from dressmaking.  Since each clue  is two weeks apart, I can do something else this week.  I need to do some sewing on my blue sweatshirt and some mending.  I also have to finish my St. Valentine’s Day table runner.  By then, it will be time for clue #2.

Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is four weeks away.  Even though I don’t buy much anymore, I still enjoy going.  I always buy a pin from Liz Printz and soap from Penn Oak.  There aren’t any interesting classes this year so that’s one less thing to spend my money on.  I have a vest kit from Shelridge Farm and I thought I might try to get enough extra to make it into a sweater.  Buffy is nice.  I am sure she will help me, but I will wait until Sunday to talk to her.  That place is such a zoo on Saturday.  I don’t know yet if I will even go on Saturday.  Maybe I will remember my camera this year.

Today was one of those awful rainy days.  There were very few people at knitting group this afternoon.  Maude and Zip kept running in and out all day.

Can’t Cut, Sew or Iron Straight

April 6, 2008

But, then, I can’t knit straight either.  And that never stopped me.  I have 150 four patches and none of them match.  Oh, well.

I did finish the baby gift.  I have to give it the wash test.

Three Miles of Strips

April 5, 2008

I am about out of lights and darks. I sewed a bunch together today and I am hoping that I have enough. They are ironed and ready to be cut. I should get to them tomorrow.

But, it’s Friday so we had to do some housework and bake something before we go out to eat. I had some strawberries that I sliced up. I’ll whip up some cream before we go. I decided to make grandmother’s cinnamon cake to put them on. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s good.

Trying to Quilt

April 3, 2008
I am finally starting on the quilt. I sewed together about a mile of strips. Then I ironed them flat.

And stared slicing them for four patches.

You know what? I need to make about two miles of strips. One mile wasn’t enough!

Maude and Doug are feeling better today. Doug is able to drink beer again and Maude is back to raising hell. Zip has decided that she smells right again or the cologne I put on him yesterday is still working. His nose is extra sensitive. I guess because it is so big. When I put flea drops on Maude he always gets a dose of cologne. All he can smell is cologne and it makes it easier to put flea drops on him. The things I have to do!

Gus doesn’t like his “chewable” heart-worm pills so I have to stuff them down his throat. I have done that with all my dogs including two German Shepherds. Someone asked me once if I wasn’t afraid of getting bit. I would never own a dog that I was afraid of. That’s just stupid. I always give Gus a treat after his pill. Then, I chase him around the house and try to take it from him. He thinks this is great fun. He’ll even deliberately drop it and pick back up before I can grab it.

Can you see the goose sitting on her eggs. I forget my extra lens when I walked around the bulkhead. Maybe I’ll get a better picture next week if I remember the lens.

Better Today

April 2, 2008
Doug feels better today. I thought that I would have to do the shopping by myself, but he came with me. When we got home, he went to bed. He was really tired. He also washed and hung out the sheets.

Maude is still playing the drama queen. She slept in the far corner of the back room because she didn’t have the strength to get into her bed. This morning she gave out the most piteous meow. She’s going to turn up her toes and die. Zip says she smells funny and tried to beat her up. He got several squirts of water. I finally dabbed some cologne on his nose. D**n cats.

I have cut all my light strips and about half of the dark. That’s all I had time for. I need to clean up after Doug, hold Maude’s paw and make the bed.

Sweetums is Sick

April 2, 2008

He has been spending his day either in the bathroom or in bed. I am wondering if I should sleep in the spare bedroom. I don’t know where he got this, but I don’t want to get it. Elvis has been sleeping with him and Gus is always in there.

It was raining this morning so I took Maude to the vet. She hates rain and I can never keep her in when it’s not. I am so glad this vet doesn’t have appointments. I would have a h**l of a time getting her there. It was time for her annual visit and she needed a rabies shot. Now she can bite the neighbors. She was a little pooky when she came home. I put a chair out on the deck for her and she stayed there for a couple of hours.

Embroidery is Finished

April 1, 2008

I finally completed all the embroidery that I had planned and I can now take my baby in for it’s annual physical. The arm is going, too. I seem to have to recalibrate more often lately. Digitizing takes so long that I wonder if it’s worth it. There are so very many great designs out there. Often I would prefer to pay someone else to do it because it is making me crazy.

This is the back of my sweatshirt.

This is the front.

Now I can get back to my Orange Crush quilt. I should have gotten the light and dark strips cut by this time, but I like to get one thing done before starting another. We got the first clue today so I have sewing to do. I plan on cutting the strips tomorrow and maybe starting to sew.

This is what I am going to use for my quilt.
