Elvis is Snotty

October 9, 2008

So I took him to the vet.  He got a shot and an antibiotic to take for a week.  His lungs and heart are good.  His teeth are not too good which may cause some of his problems, but, at his age, it would be too traumatic to do anything about them.  Excuse me while I pet this cat.

OK.  Back to Elvis.  The vet gave him the same thing he got last year since it did the job.  He said to call if he wasn’t 100% better in a few days and he’d give him something else.  I like this guy.  He’s sensible.  I wish more were like him.  And that includes human ones.

Sleeping quietly in my lap

Here’s my sock.  I like this pattern.  I think I’d like it in a sweater.

Sweetums is Sick

April 2, 2008

He has been spending his day either in the bathroom or in bed. I am wondering if I should sleep in the spare bedroom. I don’t know where he got this, but I don’t want to get it. Elvis has been sleeping with him and Gus is always in there.

It was raining this morning so I took Maude to the vet. She hates rain and I can never keep her in when it’s not. I am so glad this vet doesn’t have appointments. I would have a h**l of a time getting her there. It was time for her annual visit and she needed a rabies shot. Now she can bite the neighbors. She was a little pooky when she came home. I put a chair out on the deck for her and she stayed there for a couple of hours.

Zippo has a Boo-Boo

January 30, 2008
Zippo went out early this morning to peruse his territory and he must have had a run in with a usurper. Doug was playing with him later when he noticed the blood. Cats can get infections too easily, so I got dressed and took him to the vet. We had to wait a while because the vet was going on vacation Friday and every animal in Seaford was there. He got a shot and antibiotics to take everyday. This is going to be fun. Fortunately, I have a great syringe for this sort of thing. I got a lot of knitting done while I was done so maybe I will get the wimple done in another day.

Poor baby!

I was asked what a snot vampire was. This is a long story. Many years ago, I was reading a collection of short stories. The editor(producer, publisher–I don’t remember) asked various science fiction writers for off the wall short stories. I believe it was Harlan Ellison who sent a story about a snot vampire. It was so gross that the editor would not publish it and asked for something else. I got the feeling that he knew Ellison sent it on purpose. Since then, I often say I need a snot vampire whenever I have a runny nose or sinus infection. When I mentioned it to my then boyfriend (current husband), he was suitably impressed that I read that sort of thing. So, yesterday, I went to see the doctor (snot vampire) and he gave me a prescription for my sinus infection (bit me on the face and sucked the snot right out of me). I hope your imagination is as good as mine.

Myuushi’s Turn

December 8, 2007

Myuushi has been a little snotty lately and he has been sneezing so I decided it was his turn to see the vet. Our little road was still snow covered and icy where the sun hadn’t reached. Main roads were OK, but my vet is also on a little road. We didn’t have to wait very long this time, probably due to the weather. That’s why I decided to go today. He doesn’t take appointments. You have to sign in between 10 and 12 and wait your turn. Some people can’t stand this, but when you have a cat that knows every hidey hole in and around your house, it’s good. The Myuush was very overdue for his distemper for this reason. At least he always got his rabies shots. They held clinics at various schools around the county every Spring. He got two shots and liquid to take. It was 2PM yesterday before he got his first dose. I have learned that it is better to just wait until he shows up. When we moved, it took my husband and son two hours to find him. For a short, fat, football shaped cat, he can certainly be elusive.

I have almost finished my daughter’s tunic. A couple of good movies should do it. I started on a FSL(free standing lace) Santa, sleigh, and nine reindeer. Rudolf will be there, too. I hope I can get it done by Christmas, but it may make me crazy before then. After the embroidery, there are pipe cleaners, wire, glue and a sparkly red nose to deal with. Wish me luck. I have some other sewing to do, but I hate to jump back and forth on projects. I’d never get anything done.

Elvis

November 6, 2007

6-06-flood-knit-102807-018.jpgI took Elvis to the vet today.  It took both of us to get him in the carrier.  By the way, Elvis is a 17 year old cat who has never been sick a day in his life.  He says it is because he does not believe in jumping or running.  The end of my son’s bunk bed has scars to prove it.  Elvis and his siplings were bottle kittens.  I always fed Elvis last because I could put him on my bed while I fed the others and he wouldn’t go anywhere.  Now, he is the only one left.  He ain’t no dummy.  He got a shot of penicillin and liquid antibiotics to take.  He peed on the way home.  My cat carriers all have thick fleece pads that I made so there was no real mess.  Elvis, however, was embarrassed and hid under the bookcase until after the others had eaten.  I hope Doug will be able to give him his medicine when I go back to Reisterstown for a few days.  If not, I will have to take him with me.  That means no stops for me along the way.
