HOT

June 9, 2008

My son and I were over in Cockeysville and a sign said 104 degrees.  I should go home.  At least the whole house is air conditioned, not just some rooms.  When we lived here, we tried a couple of times to get central air.  It took several calls just to get someone to come and then they never called back.  This happened twice.

I said that I would fix his pants for him, but I am going to take the machine to another room.  I wish he had

called about that before I left.  I would have brought my Sapphire, but I am stuck with my old piece of s**t Brother.

If this post looks odd, please remember , I am not at my usual computer.

Going

Zip I have to run to Reisterstown.  Zip wanted to come, too, but I told him it’s too hot and the house doesn’t have central air.  A guy is coming to write an estimate on the third floor.  I don’t know when i will be back.

Well

June 8, 2008

The Boss likes this heat.  She spent all day outside and even took her nap out on the deck.  Zip, on the other hand, has been spending most of his time inside.  I did a bunch of sewing today and took pictures.  It was nice to hear from Christine today.  I have got to change that hat.  But, now, I am really tired and I’m going to bed.

Boss

MaudeIt was pretty humid when we went out on our morning walk.  It’s supposed to get hot tomorrow, so I am hoping to get out early.

I found out that Maude has a friend, another female named Cat.  She goes over to her house and picks her up and they go off together.  She actually sits outside and waits for Maude to come.  I am not surprised that Maude has a flunky.  She is quite a cat.  Look at that innocent face.  Behind those eyes lies the mind of a fierce jungle cat.

She is sitting on the scratching post so she can be properly admired.

I worked on some more blocks for the quilt this afternoon.  I have four half blocks to sew and then I can start sewing it together.  This quilt really has been a lot of fun.  I like the step by step idea.  It made it less daunting.  My socks are coming along, too.  And I worked on the big sweater this evening.  I feel like I got something done today.

Turtles and Herons and Geese. Oh My!

June 6, 2008

turtle

Look at the size of that turtle.  He’s big enough to eat.  As the days get hotter, those logs will be filled with them.  It’s fun watch the little ones try to climb over the big ones.  I took this while I was trying to get a good picture of the Blue Heron.  My neighbor, Linda, calls him Michael.  She says he is much more dignified than her other neighbor, Mikey.great blue heron

It was also a good day for geese.  The babies are getting big.  By the end of July, it will be hard to tell them from their parents.canada geese  These geese stay year round.  I think their ancestors knew a thing when they saw it and never returned.  I know how that is.

I laid out all the blocks to my quilt last night.  Like the idiot I am, I forgot to take a picture.  Now I am busily making more blocks.  I’m still having a good time with this.  I could have sworn that I would be bored by now.  I’ll be laying it out again soon, probably on the carpeting by my machine.  I hope the animals leave it alone.

Not My Mother

June 5, 2008

I don’t want to be like my mother and I strive not to be.  I grew up feeling like I was an inconvenience to her.  I don’t know if she even loved me.  When I needed a hug, I would walk to the bus stop and wait for Daddy.  He always smiled when he saw me and he gave me a hug.  I wish he hadn’t died so young.  I miss him.  He wasn’t the best Father, but, you know, I knew he loved me.

We are having some weather here.  Maude was too far away when the rain started, but she came home when it let up.  We were without power for 4 1/2 hours.  I was going to make roasted red potatoes and asparagus, but I have an electric range here, which I am still getting used.  We wound up having hot dogs on the grill.  They were really good.  About once or twice a year, I crave hot dogs so we were lucky.  Neither of us felt like going out.

wavy socksMy socks are coming along nicely.  I didn’t have time to work on them today.  We had to go shopping and drop stuff off at Good Will.  Just as I was getting the potatoes out, the power went down.  Afterward, there wasn’t enough light.  Doug has a great flashlight with rechargeable batteries, but I am used to working under an Ott light.  I tried winding some yarn, but I couldn’t even do that right.

Cactus

June 4, 2008

cactusIt always amazes me when I look at this cactus.  It gets the sun most of the day and the irrigation system doesn’t come this close to the road.  We don’t do a thing with it.  When I lived in California, many homes had cactus.  I never expected to see it around here, but I have since seen it in a few other yards around here.  cactus

My socannek club came.  As you can see, it is not my favorite color, but the socks will look good with jeans.  I like the pattern better, too.  Again, it was printed with a matrix dot printer so I went ahead and made a copy before I spill orange juice on it.  It’s Anne yarn from Schaeffer Yarn which I have used before to make a shawl in the old shale pattern.  It really is nice yarn and I know it will make my feet happy.  I think I figured out why I don’t like blue.  I look like my mother when I am wearing it.  It’s scary.

Elvis

June 3, 2008

elvisElvis had another seizure this afternoon and it was pretty bad.  He was sleeping on one of the chairs on the deck.  He fell off and twitched on the floor for several minutes, then laid perfectly still for a long time.  Doug got a beer and a shovel and went around front to our little pet cemetery.  When he got back, Elvis walked over to him and meowed at him.  He just about fell over.  He was so certain that he was dead.  Elvis is still laughing about it.

My girlfriend called me from Arizona this afternoon.  She couldn’t find my address.  We had a nice chat.  She’s sending me a present.  She had asked what my favorite colors were so I am assuming it has red in it.

gerainium

A chunk broke off one of my geraniums last week so I stuck it in some water.  I didn’t notice that it had a bud on it.  It was so small.  Now I have this lovely flower on my little supper table.

Happy June

June 2, 2008

I had on sandals when I went walking this morning so I was only out for about half an hour.  The problem being that it rained cows and pigs last night and the ground was soaked and very squishy.

I wore my new socks to knitting group this afternoon.  I didn’t mention them, but somebody did notice them.  I must say, they did look nice with my red sandals.  I have gotten down to the heel on my socks.  It has the standard heel, but i prefer what some call the “After Thought Heel”.  I think they last longer.  I can always change it later.  There was an error in the pattern, but I caught it almost right away.   Two rows of the pattern were reversed.

I got a haircut while I was down there.  No sense in wasting the gas.  It’s a forty mile round trip. I am so glad the color that it was dyed is so close to my natural color.  It’s about half grown out and doesn’t look too strange.album blocks

I finished my album blocks and I am working on the half and quarter blocks.  I am making extra full and half blocks as I finish each step.album block

Before and after.  With and without the flash.  Is that center square too much?  Why do I ask?  It’s staying.Maude

                                                  Good Night.

P.S.  Hope I haven’t bored you too much.
