We Were Walking the Dog

September 2, 2013

We were about halfway down the lane when we heard a noise.  At first, we thought it was a bird calling.  We also noticed something black in the road.  A shoe?  We soon realized that the noise was coming from the black shoe and, then, it started to move toward us.  Definitely not a shoe.   The shoe was a kitten.  She let Sweetums pick her up.  She purred and cried at the same time.  Definitely talented.  Sweetums handed me the house keys and the kitten and I took her home and Sweetums and Gus continued down the lane.

I brought her in and put her on the counter with some kitten chow.  While she ate and purred and hollered, I got out the flea drops and put one on her neck.  She didn’t even notice.  She had fleas and ear mites and she was starving.

New Phone Equals New Case

August 10, 2013

I really didn’t need one.  But trying to text on that tiny keyboard was getting to be a real pain.  A touch pad would be so much easier to use.  And I didn’t want to spend any more than what my son paid for his.  After I got it home and started playing with it, I discovered that I can talk text.  What more do I want?  Wait a minute!  Well, I’ll be.  I can talk text, too.  Hot damn!  All right.  I’ll quit acting like an idiot.

They wanted to sell me a case.  I said, I’ll make one.  I got a very sceptical look.  What if you drop it.  It will be well padded.  The idea that anyone could make something useful was totally beyond them.

I got out the Stiff Stuff.  I love/hate this stuff.  I hate working with it.  I love that it does what the name implies.

I traced around the phone twice.  Then managed to cut them out without too much swearing.

Cutting the interfacing took some time.

The wide piece is a pouch for the earphones.  It has to have a little pleat.  The long one includes the flap.  The third is the front.  Each piece is about 1/4 inch wider and longer than the phone.

Picking fabric was easy.  I got some leftover Rowan fabric.

I ironed the interfacing onto the wrong side of the desired fabric leaving enough space for seams.

And that’s as far as I’ve gotten today.  Sweetums is getting hungry.

At Least the Rain has Stopped

July 14, 2013

The temperature isn’t that bad, but it’s very humid.
P1050478  Flo doesn’t mind.  She still likes to work on her tan.  She’s just a summertime cat.

I finished writing my sock pattern.  I mailed it over, but it hasn’t arrived yet.  The battery was very low and my laptop is ancient.

Twenty-eight years ago today, I was trying to take a nap in the back yard while Sweetums was painting our bedroom ceiling.  I hadn’t slept well the night before due to the heat and an enormous belly.  That night, my water broke while I was taking a bath–an interesting sight.  Later, I went downstairs and cleaned the kitchen.  Around 2Am, the pains started.  I called Dr T and woke Sweetums and told Jenn.  Sweetums didn’t believe me.  I still had ten days to go.  Idiot.  It was time to go. That’s all there was to it.  Jenn showed up about 15 minutes after we arrived.  It was good to have them both there.  My son showed up around 5:30AM.  Life is good.  Needless to say, it was not for several days until I got any sleep.

Still Making Stuff

April 4, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Sometimes I pick up kits just because there’s something in them that I haven’t tried.  I made this beach bag for my daughter.  I had never worked with screening before.  It was a bit of a challenge, but I was very pleased with the results.  And my daughter couldn’t be happier!  She says it’s perfect.  It has twelve deep pockets and plenty of room for the wet sandy stuff you have to haul.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Here’s the inside.  I covered all the rough edges for protection.  I would definitely make this again.  I wonder if that shop has any more of those kits.

Next, I tried working with iron-on vinyl.  I HATED it.  I won’t be trying it again.  It was a real pain in the ass.

Sweetums is about to die from starvation, so I guess I had better feed him.

I Made a Mistake

September 27, 2012

Last Friday, I drove over to Easton to buy a few extra yards of fabric to coordinate with a kit I had bought.  I want to make it big enough to cover a twin bed.  After finding what I needed, I had a look around the shop.  Sitting in a basket with some boring pre-cuts, was a gorgeous six-inch jelly roll of Kaffe Fassett Collective in Fire.  I didn’t want to buy it.  Really.  I didn’t.  But I did.

Not the best picture, I know.  But I was in a hurry.

Sweetums fell in love with it.

“Is it enough to make a quilt?”

“No.”

“Can you get more?  It would look great on our bed!”

Oh my.  What have I gotten my self into?  I should have known better.  What was I thinking?  So.  After spending about two days and  two hundred dollars at various websites, I think I have enough for a queen quilt.  I just hope he doesn’t bug me too much about getting it made.

I still have this one to finish.  I think I have to make Dot one of her own.

Egg Salad to Tuna Salad

July 26, 2012

Sometimes, I like to make egg salad.  But Sweetums thinks it’s gross and disgusting.  What does he know?  He’s from Oklahoma.  Well!  I’ve come up with the perfect solution.  And we both get what we want.  I hard boil two or three eggs and make myself an egg salad sandwich.  There is about enough left for half a sandwich.  I get out a can of tuna ( Have you noticed that they are getting smaller?)  and dump it in the egg salad.  Sweetums says it’s the best tuna salad he ever tasted.   Go figure.

And Cora had tuna water.  And it was good.

My Toes Hurt

July 21, 2012

It was overcast and only 70 degrees when we went out this morning.  It was sunny and 90 two days ago.  Instead of trying to avoid as much sun as possible, we walked around the defunct horse farm.  They keep it mowed so it was an easy walk.  We walked down the side drive, then over to the track.  There are weeds now and grass is trying to sneak in.  We took the long way around and came through the barns on the way back.  It was so enjoyable to walk at a good pace without sweating.  The bushes around the pond have really grown.  Sweetums mentioned that there were  fewer geese than in the past.  I wonder why.  Maybe next time, I’ll check for fresh fox holes.  When we got back, I had my usual aches and pains.  But it’s hours later now and my toes still hurt.  It’s so weird.

I’ve made good progress on my shawl.  Sometimes I get a little lost and have to backtrack.  I keep losing yarn overs and trying to pick them back up when I purl back can be aggravating.  There have also been times when my end of the row and the directions end of the row did not coincide.  So I just fudge it.  It is one of the joys of using variegated yarn.  I do have one obvious hole that I have no idea how it happened.  I haven’t decided if I will fix it yet.

New Diner in Town

April 7, 2012

Let’s just say, ” I won’t be going back.”

Sweetums asked me where I want to go for my birthday.  Did I say one of those fancy places looking out at the ocean?  Nah.  I want to go to Smith’s.  I don’t care that it looks like a basement that was finished in the sixties.  There is one consistent quality about the place.  The food is good.  What more do you want?

New Feet

March 9, 2012

No. Not me.  Although, I have mentioned to break my little toes a few times, they still work well.  I’d say my hands and feet are the only things that still work well on me.  If anything ever happened to my hands and I couldn’t knit or sew, do the humane thing and just take me out and shoot me.  Please.

It’s my cutting table.  I have one of those cheap folding kind with rollers that wear out quickly.  I could get one of those fancy expensive ones, but they don’t fold up and move easily.  This one I can stick in a corner and I can move it around without any help.  I think that we can all agree that I am a bit independent.  But that’s why Sweetums loves me.

And this is why I love Sweetums.  The new leg fits over the old and the caps slide easily over the floor.  I’m so happy!

It’s All Sweetums’ Fault

January 23, 2012

For a good month now, I have managed to avoid Sweetums’ cold.  But, it’s finally got me, right in the chest.  This can’t be happening.  I’ve got things to do.  Everything is such an effort.  Since it was raining, I took a shower this morning and washed my hair.  Usually I feel great afterward.  Today, I was exhausted by the time I was finished.  I could just beat him.
