New Project

February 6, 2018

This cowl pattern is in a book my daughter gave me for Christmas.  She also gave me the variegated yarn.  It was a freebie, but she had no use for it.  The blue is Brown Sheep, one of my favorite yarns.  After knitting on size one needles for the past few weeks, I needed to work on something with big needles.  This pattern calls for DK and size six needles.  I had worsted so I used size eight.  I considered size nine needles,  but they weren’t handy at the time.  I had a shawl over my feet and a kitty in my lap keeping me warm.  I really did not want to get up.

And here is the book she gave me.  I’m also considering the medallion pull-over. There is also a hat, another cowl, sweater, vest and baby jacket that I like.

My Toes Hurt

July 21, 2012

It was overcast and only 70 degrees when we went out this morning.  It was sunny and 90 two days ago.  Instead of trying to avoid as much sun as possible, we walked around the defunct horse farm.  They keep it mowed so it was an easy walk.  We walked down the side drive, then over to the track.  There are weeds now and grass is trying to sneak in.  We took the long way around and came through the barns on the way back.  It was so enjoyable to walk at a good pace without sweating.  The bushes around the pond have really grown.  Sweetums mentioned that there were  fewer geese than in the past.  I wonder why.  Maybe next time, I’ll check for fresh fox holes.  When we got back, I had my usual aches and pains.  But it’s hours later now and my toes still hurt.  It’s so weird.

I’ve made good progress on my shawl.  Sometimes I get a little lost and have to backtrack.  I keep losing yarn overs and trying to pick them back up when I purl back can be aggravating.  There have also been times when my end of the row and the directions end of the row did not coincide.  So I just fudge it.  It is one of the joys of using variegated yarn.  I do have one obvious hole that I have no idea how it happened.  I haven’t decided if I will fix it yet.

Paulies Socks from Knitcircus

August 13, 2011

I picked this pattern for my next pair of summer socks because it was pretty much a no brainer.  Knit 2, purl 2 with a little twist stitch every eight rows.  But I read the directions anyway.  It felt like the writer was trying to make something simple sound difficult.  When I got to the heel I had to read it over a few times before I could “see” what she was talking about.  I went with an Eye of Partridge heel instead.  It’s a good look on variegated yarn.  Next came a shaped arch sole which I have done a few times.  Here again, the directions were weird.  At first, I thought it was me.  I am dyslexic, you know.  I got out one of my Charlene Schurch books (I wish I had remembered to take them to MDSWF) and read what she had to say.  I felt much better.  Thanks Charlene.  I didn’t bother with the shaped arch after all that.  I was tired of thinking.

I made mittens to go with the hat.  I like these so much that I may not sell them.
