I bought this kit from Craftsy. I liked the pattern and the yarn and it was on sale. So why not. The headband is doubled and it is big enough to cover my ears. I changed the turning row. The pattern called for a purl row, but I did a knit two together, yarn over. I think it’s much prettier. I followed the pattern until I got to the last five stitches. I left them on one needle and made a short I-cord. I do this with just about every hat I make. It just looks tidy. And you know I like tidy knitting.
The Iced Eucalyptus Beret
April 11, 2014March. Where Did It Go?
March 31, 2014Who really cares. It contained entirely too much snow. Sweetums was not happy. I was ready to shoot him and put him out of my misery. I haven’t seen my children since Christmas. Every time I make plans, there’s snow. I do not like snow. It is very difficult for me to get around. My son lives in a row house on a narrow side street. There isn’t any room for piling snow. I really need to see him. He has a mortgage now and panics just like his Father. He wants my help with his taxes. I just hope he finds a calm wife before I turn senile. He’s going to need someone. For now, barring any snow, I’m going on Wednesday. The only time that I can remember snow in April was my fifth birthday party. And I am older than dirt, don’t you know.
Leftover Yarn
March 15, 2014I had about 65 grams left from the sweater I just finished. The yarn felt so good against my skin that I decided to make an infinity scarf. I used the same cable pattern. I started with the scarf, but soon realized that I had enough for wristlets also. Once the scarf was plenty long, I took the other end of the yarn and made wristlets. Then I finished the scarf and knitted the ends together. The scarf can go easily around my neck twice which is just what I wanted.
My Pretty Red Flower
March 12, 2014I Am An Imperfectionist!
March 10, 2014I’m not perfect. Really. Who wants to be? I like my knitting to be tidy. But it doesn’t have to be perfect. Tidy is not another meaning for perfect. Take this sweater.
It is tidy, but it’s not perfect.
Look at this.
For some reason, I did not make all the decreases called for at the left front neck. Did I fix it? Obviously not. I sewed the shoulder seams together taking in the consideration that I had those extra stitches. And when I picked up stitches for the ribbed collar, I just picked up along where the edge should have been. Did it matter?
Even with the front open, the excess stitches cannot be seen.
I may be a tidyist, but it doesn’t mean I am a perfectionist.
Sweetums and the Computer
March 9, 2014OK. I know that it’s been while. But there’s been a lot of hand holding going on here. It all started when Sweetums’ desktop got sick. What to do? What to do? After a bunch of to-ing and fro-ing, he decided a new unit was in order. So he ordered one. It came. He set it up. It did strange things. He sent it back. (It’s a good thing there’s an UPS store in town.) Now what? He found instructions to completely clear a computer. So he did that. But he still doesn’t trust it. He’s thinking about a new one, but he doesn’t want a touch screen. ARG!
And what did I do? Why I made him a new hat. What else is a knitter to do?
Spring At Last!
February 24, 2014Yea. I know. It’s not even March yet. How can it be Spring? Simple. Yesterday, at 3:07PM, I signed up for classes at MD Sheep & Wool. To me, that means that Spring is right around the corner. Sooooo. Today is the first day of Spring. And I don’t care that it’s twenty degrees colder today than it was yesterday. Or, that it’s supposed to snow Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m taking three day long classes with one of my favorite designers, Beth Brown-Reisel. I’m so happy! Smiley face!
The sign-up time was 2PM, but I kind of forgot until 2:30. I decided to use my new-to-me laptop. When I finally found the website, I didn’t see any place to go to on-line application. Did I panic? Well, of course. My first thought was that everything was already filled. NOooo. Fortunately, I said to myself, that can’t be right. I walked off, then came back. And there was the application icon. Happy. Joy. It was 3:04. Interesting. When I finished, the time on the application website said 3:07 and the time on MDS&W said 2:07. I assume the company is in another time zone. Or maybe, the one who was supposed to push the button at 2PM fell asleep.
Cat Blankets
February 21, 2014I had no idea that I had so many!
Olive loves the entrelac baby blanket.
Sweet Baby Rue with his old shale blankie. He likes to make dough on it and purr.
Flo is a bit greedy and commandeers two of my favorite sweaters.
And here is Sheena Warrior Princess upon her wool hat throne.
The Pieces are Complete
February 13, 2014
Dot has been working hard at pinning down the pieces. She holds the T pins between her toes and pushes them in place with her nose. She is very talented. She does, however, require a full pot of coffee in order to complete this task within a reasonable about of time.
As you can see, she is very good. What would I do without her? She even knew to block the back and fronts first. I’ll be able to work on the collar and button bands while the sleeves are still drying. With this cold wet weather, it’s taking two days.
Cozy Country Knits
February 7, 2014I’ve been wanting to knit myself a sweater from this book. Now that I’ve completed all my mandates, I can make something for me. The yarn I chose is a silk wool blend, loose single ply and slightly thicker than worsted weight. I had to go up one size needle to get gauge. Oddly, I don’t have much in a size ten. I had to settle for a much longer needle than I would have liked. If it weren’t Winter, I probably would have gone shopping. Sometimes, I like to knit on big needles.
