Sunday Morning on the River

January 25, 2010

Sitting on the pier this morning was so peaceful.  It was so quiet.  There was no wind.  The river was perfectly smooth.  The sky was overcast, but it just added to the serenity.  I could have sat there all day.  It was  in the mid forties.  I was wearing my old ‘Map of the World’ sweater.  I made it from Peace Fleece.  It is tightly knit and really warm.  It’s great for a typical lower slower Delaware winter day.

I hope I’m not too ugly for you.

I talked to my son today.   I told him that I would be up on Thursday with Jenn’s birthday gift.   He told me his boss told him that he liked his work.  He sounds happy.  He finally has a job  in his field.  I’m certain that it helps his self-esteem.

I had a pleasant surprise the other day.  My younger brother e-mailed me.  He and his wife will be in Cambridge for a few days and wanted to come by.  It will be nice to see them.  It’s been seven years.

Bored

December 22, 2009

I’ve made cookies and wrapped all the Christmas presents.  I think we’re going to have to out tomorrow.  Doug tried to take Gus for a walk, but he only got less than half way down our road.  He said the road was icy and too hard to walk on.  The cats are going crazy.  Cora is the only one who will spend any time out-of-doors.

No Ornaments on Our Christmas Tree

December 14, 2009

I’ve decided hat I don’t need them.  Why do I need them?  I’ve got three little girls to decorate it.  And they are not breakable.  Cora is very good at picking the ornaments off and carrying them off to parts unknown.  I am also very afraid that she will do it to one that is very special to me.

It has been raining all day.  It’s only n the mid-fifties, but I am chilled to the bone.  It really sucks.  No wonder I’m in a bad mood.  I have finished the machine sewing.  I even made hangers of it.  Hopefully, I’ll get the hand sewing accomplished in the next day or two.  The babes are sleeping now, so perhaps I can get a lot of it finished tonight.  The baby sweater is finished except for the snaps and buttons.  I haven’t made up my mind yet.

High High Tide

December 10, 2009

It rained all night.  The geese love it.  They can stand on the bulkhead and still be in the water.  Everything is sodden.  I didn’t get much of a walk because of it.  The weather was mild so Doug put out the Christmas lights on the deck.  I had been out shopping this afternoon and they were so pretty when I came over the bridge.  Of course, I forgot to stop at the bank so I have to run out again tomorrow.   It’s supposed to be a lot colder.

I have the kimono blocked.  Maybe tomorrow I can start putting it together.  I found some snaps and buttons.  Wal-Mart doesn’t have much at all anymore.  They only had one kind of snaps and they were black.  At least I have plenty of buttons.  In the meantime, I’ve started Heritage Booties with the same yarn.  I thought about making a hat to go with the kimono, but I really liked the booties.

I don’t understand why anyone would send an “Edible Arrangements”.  You have to eat that stuff right away.  You don’t know how long they were sitting around either.  You know, I don’t think I could eat it.  I’d probably sit it out back and let the birds eat.

Well, I’m Bummed

December 4, 2009

Is that a word?  Oh, who cares.  It suits.  I went to the urologist this morning.  While I was away, they called to change my appointment to AN HOUR earlier so I wasn’t happy anyway.  The doctor probably had plans for the weekend.  After a forty minute drive and having to wait, (at least I had my knitting), I was told that surgery wouldn’t help.  He could have done that on the phone.  He talked about physical theory, but only a few places did it so another forty minute drive each way.  He was pushing to try something that involved me coming every week (for the rest of my life?), but most insurance companies don’t cover it.  It seems it only has a less than fifty percent success rate.  Why bother.   And I’m not taking those stupid pills either.

Happy thoughts!  Happy thoughts!

So I went and got a haircut.  It looks good.  It’s only down to my chin.  It was entirely too long.  Long is fine in the summer when it’s hot and I can wear it up.  But when it’s cold and takes forever to dry, (I don’t have time for a blow dryer) it’s has to come off.  If I weren’t so ugly, I’d take my picture.  It looks that good.

I’ve started te first sleeve on the baby kimono.  I just noticed that you can see the increases after the seed stitch cuff.  Bummer.  What did I do?  I’m not going to worry about it.  The mother will never notice.  It is so cute!  Don’t you think?

I like the way it crosses over in the front, but I am not looking forward to sewing on the snaps.  I’ll have to think about it.  I need to take a better picture.  You can’t see the colors here—— lime, blue, pink, aqua and cream.

Miss Linda just called.  She wants to go to Pizza King for hot sandwiches.  It sounds like comfort food to me.  I can handle that.

End of November

December 1, 2009

OK.  I have blogged everyday this month.  Now, I am going to put some softener inthe wash and get a cup of juice.

Warmer Today

November 30, 2009

It was only 35 degrees this morning, but by the time we left for our walk it was pretty nice.  The sun was out and there was no wind.  I got a fair amount of work done on my little quilt and I’m almost finished the baby sweater.  I’m going to Reisterstown tomorrow morning so I need to get a few things together.

I Did Something

November 29, 2009

It’s was pretty windy this morning on our walk.  I had a little confrontation with this idiot who thought it was all right to let their dog have the run of the property where they were working.  The owner was not at home at the time.  The dog was ready to attack my dog.  We have permission to walk through with our dog who is always kept leashed when out.  They acted like I should leave.  But, did I?  You better believe I didn’t!  I walked down driveway and had a seat on the pier just like any other day.

The Babies Stopped By

November 24, 2009

They’re all grown up now.  They wandered around for a few hours and then sailed off down the river.

I’ve been trying to make these little round numbers to applique.  They are making me crazy.  I almost threw them out.  I probably would have if I hadn’t embroidered them.  I hated to waste them.  Now I’m trying to decide how I want to make the back.  I still have some wide red strips that would look nice.

I Had to Go to Food Lion

November 21, 2009

Doug talked me into it.  They have the carpet stuff that he likes to use.  I was hoping for butter pecan syrup, but it seems they don’t carry it anymore.  Bummer.  We bought a bunch of stuff that I know I wouldn’t have bought otherwise.  I also got a ham and a turkey.  Now I’ll have to cook them.  I like to make yeast rolls and apple pies, but all that smelly meat is too much.  I’m not a vegetarian.  I’m just not a big meat-eater—- or cooker.  My son is off on Thanksgiving and Friday so he’s coming down and I’ll have another person to eat it.  I am feeling better the last few days so I think I’ll be better this year.  I think going to the cemetery early this year was the right thing to do.
