My Little Girl

April 24, 2008

There are times when I wish that I really didn’t like animals. And last night was definitely one of them. Maude was gone from 1PM until 6AM. I didn’t get to sleep until after 1AM. We left the back door to the garage open a few inches and locked the door to the house. At 3:30, she still had not come home. Finally, at 6AM, she came bounding in from the garage and headed for the chow. I opened a fresh can of chicken for her. She was really hungry. I was so glad to see her and so mad at her. I told her she was a very bad girl in a very sweet voice. I didn’t want her to get the wrong idea, but I needed to say it. She does like to wander, but she always heads home when it gets dark. I bought her for her “A” personality. She does not let Zip run over her. She thinks she weights thirty pounds. I could never keep her in. She doesn’t like to be held, but she will get in your lap and she likes to petted and scratched. She’s a pistol.

Now she’s catching up on her sleep.

It was such a nice day that I sat out back and worked on my socks. I am starting the heel. I have done this heel before, but it has been a long time. Thanks to Lucy’s excellent instructions, the heel is now finished.

Here is how it looked this afternoon.

I also started sewing together my little squares and triangles.

And now, I think I’ll take my book and go to bed.

Cooler Today

April 21, 2008

After our walk, I showered and got ready to go to knitting group. I am glad I thought to wash my hair and wear something decent because someone was taking pictures. My socks are coming along. It’s a Lucy Neatby pattern.

My yarn came yesterday. I don’t know when I will get to make something with it. I have about six different patterns in mind. I know it won’t be the cardigan that seems to be so popular currently.

I seem to be a bit grouchy so I will stop now.

It was 85 Today

April 20, 2008

We had a nice walk this morning. I was tired when we got back, but I didn’t ache everywhere as when I am cold. I sat out back for a while and knit. I finally finished the garter stitch cuff and sewed the ends together. It slid over my heel and fit nicely. I was going to take a picture on my foot, but I didn’t want to scare anyone.

Here’s the seam.

The yarn was really thin here, but I think that it will be all right. I knit for about an hour and then planted impatiens. I still have about a dozen plants left. I am hoping to finish them before the rain starts tomorrow.

Too Nice to Be In

April 18, 2008

I got sweaty sitting outside on deck around noon. It was wonderful. I am only inside now because I had to prepare the strawberries and make a little dinette cake to go with them. I had some strawberry extract and added a little red food dye to get the full effect.

My table runner isn’t finished yet.

Maude wouldn’t let me.

I got most of the cutting done for clue 2 of the quilt.

I am two-thirds through the first sleeve on my sweater which is pretty good considering how little time I have put into it. I like this pattern better, but I am not thrilled with the yarn and I doubt that I will buy it again. Maybe it will feel better after a good washing.

A Few Sprinkles

April 13, 2008

It kept trying to rain, but we only got a few sprinkles from time to time. I went for two short dog walks today. My legs ached so badly last night that I had to take the heavy duty stuff in order to get some sleep. This morning I was sleepy and my knees weren’t functioning very well. I went for a longer walk this afternoon and felt better. I did some quilting this afternoon. I also got a fair amount of knitting done on my sock. I haven’t taken any pictures of it yet. Maude joined me out on the porch.

Spring

April 10, 2008

Spring came to my house today.  I spent the afternoon on the porch.  I finished my socks.  They are just right.  I do need to remember to tuck in the hang ties when I walk around in them.  I made a swatch with the Noro sock yarn and gave it a good wash.    After a good scrubbing, it feels and looks softer.  That’s it for today.  I’m going back outside.

Wood Ducks

April 9, 2008

There were Wood Ducks out by the island this afternoon. They were enjoying the creek bottom. An Egret came by later, but both times I couldn’t get my camera out in time.

These came in the mail today. I don’t know when I’ll get around to making them, but I liked them and they were cheap.

I finished one sock last night. It fits perfectly. I hope to have the other one fixed in a few days.

Not Much

April 7, 2008

I counted out my four patches and put them in neat little piles.  I have one of those plastic rulers that is 3 1/2 inches square and I decided that they are close enough.  Quilting is so different from dressmaking.  Since each clue  is two weeks apart, I can do something else this week.  I need to do some sewing on my blue sweatshirt and some mending.  I also have to finish my St. Valentine’s Day table runner.  By then, it will be time for clue #2.

Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival is four weeks away.  Even though I don’t buy much anymore, I still enjoy going.  I always buy a pin from Liz Printz and soap from Penn Oak.  There aren’t any interesting classes this year so that’s one less thing to spend my money on.  I have a vest kit from Shelridge Farm and I thought I might try to get enough extra to make it into a sweater.  Buffy is nice.  I am sure she will help me, but I will wait until Sunday to talk to her.  That place is such a zoo on Saturday.  I don’t know yet if I will even go on Saturday.  Maybe I will remember my camera this year.

Today was one of those awful rainy days.  There were very few people at knitting group this afternoon.  Maude and Zip kept running in and out all day.

Can’t Cut, Sew or Iron Straight

April 6, 2008

But, then, I can’t knit straight either.  And that never stopped me.  I have 150 four patches and none of them match.  Oh, well.

I did finish the baby gift.  I have to give it the wash test.

Better Today

April 2, 2008
Doug feels better today. I thought that I would have to do the shopping by myself, but he came with me. When we got home, he went to bed. He was really tired. He also washed and hung out the sheets.

Maude is still playing the drama queen. She slept in the far corner of the back room because she didn’t have the strength to get into her bed. This morning she gave out the most piteous meow. She’s going to turn up her toes and die. Zip says she smells funny and tried to beat her up. He got several squirts of water. I finally dabbed some cologne on his nose. D**n cats.

I have cut all my light strips and about half of the dark. That’s all I had time for. I need to clean up after Doug, hold Maude’s paw and make the bed.
