Home Again

May 6, 2008

vest to sweater The yarn to turn my vest kit into a sweater.  The black is for revitalizing an old old poncho.  The other is in case I ever decide to join a Red Hat club.  Two new patterns and some big clips.  And soap from Penn Oak Farms.  Not so much this year because Nancy sent me some that she made.  How cool is that.

Well, that’s it for today.  I’ve got things to do.  More pictures tomorrow.

MD Sheep & Wool

May 4, 2008

Oh, man.  Am I tired!  I made it through the whole show in 3 1/2 hours.  Am I good or what.  And I got what I came for.  I did buy a few extras.  I was able to get more yarn to turn the vest kit that I bought last year into a sweater.  She didn’t have the sweater pattern to sell separately, but she I could go directly to the designer for it.  After looking at the sweater, I decided that I didn’t need the sweater pattern.  I found the 47″ 000 needle that Stitches didn’t.  I also found finger weight black at a reasonable price.  Now I can fix my old poncho.  I bought a purse pattern, socks pattern and some markers.  The pins were disappointing so none were bought.  I also got a skein of red and purple in cotton and rayon.  I figure, if I ever join one of those Red Hat clubs, I can make a hat out of it.

It was a perfect day for being outside–sunny, upper 60s to 70 degrees, low humidity with a light breeze.  I bought a waffle cone.  It was yummy.

I have pictures tomorrow.

Girls Day Out

May 3, 2008

There was only three of us this time–Diana, Carolyn and me.  Suzette was supposed to come, but she didn’t show up.  I wanted to give her the baby sweater for Colette’s grandson.

Maybe I’ll call her tomorrow.  There won’t be any pictures for the next few days until I get back.

I’m hoping my battery lasts through Sheep & Wool.

Broken Battery Charger

May 1, 2008
I ordered another one, but it won’t be here in time. I’m leaving tomorrow morning. I have other batteries, but I don’t know if they are fully charged. I want to take it with to Sheep & Wool. Now I have to remember to not take so many pictures. I usually take a bunch and delete a good half of them. I also want to take pictures of the “girls” tomorrow. Poo!

I liked the band at the bottom, so I decided to separate the colors with bands. I know that I should have knitted the first band row, but it’s going to felted anyway, so just shut up. Excuse me. I’m in a mood.

Purse Update

May 1, 2008

This is how my purse looked last night.

This afternoon, I unravelled the yellow and blue. Do not worry. The blue and yellow are coming back along with red. I decided that I liked that fuzzy band at the bottom and I am going to put it between each color change.

Look what Doug did.

A faucet for the deck. Now we can water the plants there without having to lug water containers through the house. Isn’t it wonderful?

I decided to make a pineapple upside down cake. It scared me when I looked in the oven after half an hour. I was certain it was going to spill over, but it held. A couple of little pieces fell over when I flipped it over and they were really good. It slipped out of the pan easily and some topping dripped down the side.

Isn’t it pretty?

That’s enough dumb stuff for one day.

Baby Geese

April 30, 2008

We have four new babies born on the island this year. They had seven last year. Does that mean anything? I’ll have to look.

I haven’t been able to get close enough yet. They are very protective and my cats don’t help matters any.

I have been working on the purse. I hope that it turns out the way I want it.

I only did two rows of this navy blue. It started getting really thin so I backtracked to where it was still thick and changed yarn.

I finished cutting the pieces for clue#3, but I couldn’t sew them together. Maybe tomorrow.

A New Purse

April 29, 2008

I decided that I needed a new purse. Should I knit it or sew it? My sewing cabinet is closed and both machines are on the floor. Besides, I need to work on clue #3 first. Fortunately, I usually have three knitting projects going a the same time. I looked through several books, but I didn’t see what I wanted so I am knitting something I hope will look all right. I didn’t have any trouble finding yarn. Here’s what I pulled out.

The tan and grey stuff is from an Einstein jacket that I made as a sample for someone. The sweater was boring and so was the color so I dressed it up using Nicky Epstein’s embellishment book. I’ll dig it out one of these days and cut off about a foot of the bottom. I don’t like wearing anything that long. I also need to take that stupid hat at the bottom of the picture apart.

We have about two and a half walls painted. Yea. I helped. It rained all day. What else was I going to do? Elvis helped too.

Maude went out when the rain had stopped, but we had a downpour while she was gone. I don’t know where she was, but when she finally showed up four hours later, she was soaked.

Clue #2 Finished

April 27, 2008

I finally finished them around 8PM. I did a few at a time. It’s not that I am losing interest, it’s more like there is so much that I want to do.

And now, Doug wants me to help paint. Ugh. I know that it has to be done, but I am always stuck with the detailing. Standing in one spot is so boring. I am glad he took all the wallpaper trim down. It was so ugly and she hadn’t even cleaned the wall before hand. You could see where she had something diferent before. Now the walls are completely smooth and what has been done so far looks good. It’s a happy color. When we are done, our neighbor Frank is going to install a simple crown molding. We don’t want to detract from the view out the windows. Not that much of anything would.

We are still waiting for goose babies. There has also been a fair number of shore birds at low tide lately. They like those baby fishies. I like watching them dash about on their long skinny yellow legs.

I also got the ribbing done on the second sleeve of my sweater.

Sleeve Done

April 25, 2008

I have finished the first sleeve. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I haven’t decided whether to make a cardigan or pullover yet. I’ll make the other sleeve first. We’ll see how far I get with this one until it gets too hot to knit on it. There are plenty of other things that I can do.

At least you’ll see me coming in this one.

The sock is coming along. I like the way it spirals. I am not looking forward to making another cuff. Maybe I’ll make a different kind. These socks are so strange that nobody will notice anyway.

That’s it for now. I’ve got things to do.

Unhappy Zippo

April 25, 2008

I let the cats out around 8AM. A few minutes later, they were back and Zip was growling. Linda and Paul had their picture window gutted due to rot and mold. That happens living on the water. Maude came in, too, but only because Zip was growling. She went back out in a little while, but Zip stayed in unto after the carpenter left.

He went back to bed.

This gave him the fright of his life.

We had a great day. The weather was perfect and we had a nice long walk. Gus’s tail was dragging be the time we got back. I got a lot of knitting done on my sock. I couldn’t stay in. I had to sit out on the deck and enjoy the day. It was too perfect.

This is a great looking heel.
