Yeah! I think I’ll have a piece of pie and watch a movie.

The Gifts are Wrapped
December 21, 2008I Can’t Talk Now
December 17, 2008My husband is scratching my back. Ooh. Ooh. Aah.
You Go Girl!
December 12, 2008My daughter called me yesterday, absolutely livid. She had ordered a laptop from Dell for my grandson for Christmas and told them to send it to me. Kevin gets home from school a lot earlier than she does and he is very nosy. She knew she couldn’t count on John to be home in time. He has no sense of time when he’s out on a job. A few days ago, she called to make sure there wouldn’t be any screw-ups. Well. It never showed up here, but it did there. To make matters worse, there was a picture of it on the side of the box. She was going to call today and give them a piece of her mind and she expects to get something out of it. Knowing her, I’m sure she will. That’s my girl!

I’ve been working on Latvian socks. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get them over my heel so I got out a circular needle and slipped the stitches on it. I got them on. Hooray. I hate to take stuff apart. I really like working this pattern. It moves right along. I’ll probably get to the heel tonight.

Here are the needles I’m using. I love them. I got them at Stitches. I had read about them, didn’t want to spend the money without trying them. They are lightest metal needles that I have encountered. I usually only use wooden double pointed needles. Each needle is blunt at one end and pointed at the other and they have four inch lengths. These work.
Last, but not least, I got a Christmas present today. Last week, Doug had gotten me Rigoletto on CD. I had the records at the other house. When I went to put it on the CD part didn’t work. Well, he found a Sony mini-stereo and it came today. He set it up rather than wrap it up. When I put on the CD and Luciano started his aria, I started to cry. I have heard him in concert twice and I am still overwhelmed by his perfect voice. I am surprised that the neighbors didn’t complain. I had the speakers on max.
I Never Know What to Wear
December 9, 2008It was nearly forty degrees warmer today than yesterday. It’s supposed to be the same tomorrow with rain thrown in. The rain will continue into Friday, but the temperature will drop. I am going to get “P” pneumonia!

Excuse me. I have to go down to the basement and point at boxes that are clearly marked as Christmas for my husband. Olive can hardly wait. The others have told her all about it.
Wednesday Already?
December 4, 2008I’ve been ‘kinda’ busy today. I tried to put a handle on the clutter, but it didn’t work out very well. So, I took a shower and washed my hair. Everything looked fine after that. We went food shopping. They had green bananas and naval oranges. Life is good.
I finished the heel on my second red sock and started the decreases. When I picked up along the sides, I had 21 stitches on one side and 19 on the other so I had play with it a little. See the square needles. They feel odd at first, but they work very well, especially on k2tog. I made the first sock using round needles and there is no difference in size. I just wish there were six instead of the usual five needles. I like to have six when I make socks and sometimes seven.
Shopping
December 2, 2008It went fairly well. There are a couple of things I still need to get, but I know what they are. Jenn is pretty well set, also. I will be heading back tomorrow.
Christmas Shopping
November 30, 2008I’m going back to Reisterstown for a few days. Jenn and I are going Christmas shopping. It’s been raining all day which doesn’t thrill me at all. See You.
Danish Doll Hat
November 30, 2008I finished it last night. I think it turned out well.
We had frost this morning. The geese didn’t seem to mind. They still managed to eat the neighbors grass seed. I think these are Canada Geese. Delmarva Geese don’t get up this early.
Doug had already brought in the summer flowers. Now we’ll have leaves all over the house all winter. Whoopee.
It’s Over
November 28, 2008Apple Pies
November 27, 2008I’m a baker, not a cook.
I made pie crust this morning, rolled it into a ball, wrapped it in waxed paper and put it into the refrigerator. Then, I got out my the peeler, corer, slicer thingy and started it in on the apples. I think it’s the best Christmas present my daughter ever gave me. It saves a lot of time and energy. After the apples were done, I got out the brown sugar, corn starch, cinnamon and nutmeg. I mixed it up, dumped it on the apples and that went into the refrigerator, too. I sat down for a little while, had a roll and apple cider and watched “Keeping Mum” on TV—a very enjoyable movie. I HAD to go to the supermarket. When we got back, I rolled out two pie crusts and tried to get all the apple mixture in them. I put little bits of butter on them, rolled out top crusts and did my best to seal them. I sprinkled maple cinnamon on them and we went to have a pizza. So, now, they are in the oven cooking. If they make it to dinner tomorrow untouched it will be a miracle. These pies are the main reason my son is coming.
I finally managed to get a picture of the kingfisher.
