I couldn’t get a good connection yesterday and today I am pretty tired so this will be short. I got in about noon and I had things to do across town. I wanted to finish and get back to Reisterstown before travel got bad, but I didn’t make it and I found myself sitting on the beltway. I missed LSD. Today was better. We went to PA and Jenn drove. As usual we more than we planned. It’s a good thing we only go once a year. Tomorrow, it’s Girls Day Out.

In Reisterstown for a Few Days
November 12, 2010Yesterday
November 8, 2010I was going to blog. Really, I was. When I sat down with my laptop. my mind went blank. And what was I going to talk about? I’m still not certain. It was the first day of Standard TIme so I was up an hour earlier. I had time for a nice breakfast, a walk, some reading, some knitting and a long hot shower before leaving for knitting group. I still left early. I needed gas and I wanted to stop at Staples to get a book spiralled. Is that a word? I don’t know anymore. There are so many new ones out there. The stop at Staples was a waste of my time. They said it would be about an hour before they could help me and that I could leave my book. I said, “No thanks. I’ll be back in two weeks.” They said they were always very busy on the weekend. This is a lie because I always come on Sundays before my group starts. And the job they were doing? It seemed to be watching the customer operate one of the big machines. Huh?
Group, as usual, was a lot of fun. I wore my new socks. I love them. They are so me. Betty started talking about my socks so I flipped my clogs off and pointed to my feet. She started laughing. She didn’t realize that I was wearing them. She’s one of those people who you want to make laugh just to hear her.
Maria made NO progress on the fringe of her shawl. She kept complaining that it didn’t look right. She kept losing the yarn overs. I hope I got her on the right track. I told her she can’t do anything new until she finishes the fringe. Fat chance of that happening. She’s all ready planning her next shawl and she has the yarn for it. I really like the pattern she found. Maybe I’ll do it, too.
At this point I was going to show you what I have started. Unfortunately, my laptop and my camera are not on speaking terms with each other today. This has happened before, but I do not currently feel like fixing it. But there is always cat pictures.
This is Miss Kitty. She is a Certified Bed Cat. She will sleep with you every night when you visit my girlfriend in Bismarck. And, believe me, you need at least one of these when you go there.
And here’s Flo. She missed my lap so much while I was gone. She’s been trying very hard to make up for it.
And here’s Cora enjoying the fire. She didn’t even realize that I was gone.
“What’s for Supper?”
November 5, 2010I really didn’t want to hear those words. Was it that late? “I don’t know. I’m busy.” When I’m working on something, I hate to stop in the middle. It has never occurred to him that I might want to finish what I’m doing before doing what he wants. So I ignore him and keep working. I was almost finished anyway. What’s an extra 15 or 20 minutes? What was I doing? I was making my tunic pattern in another size. I was hoping to use the same facings, but they just refused to fit. I managed to cut new ones out of some scraps. I headed to the kitchen and started digging around. I found some small red potatoes that I had bought at a vegetable stand that had closed about a month so I figured it was time to eat them. I washed and scraped them and put them in the microwave. I found some frozen scallops which I thawed in the sink. What about veggies? Well, there’s leftovers and corn(Doug’s favorite). I sautéed the scallops with a little butter, parsley, dill, onion, garlic and bacon. They were good. Doug dumped salsa on his. He dumps salsa on just about everything. Sometimes I wonder.
I Thought Today was the First
November 2, 2010Maybe it’s because we were expecting to have two propane heaters installed. No one showed up until 4:30 and all they did was bring the tank. I had to take Gus for a walk by myself and I was feeling crappy. Do you ever feel like you are on the verge of getting a cold, but it never materializes? I felt that way for a few days. I’m better today. Not wonderful, just better.
When I left Bismarck on Wednesday morning, it was in the 20’s, the wind was going at about 50MPH and it was snowing. Yes. I said SNOW!! I am so glad I had brought my Philosophers Wool sweater, my Sanguhar gloves and wool entrelac hat. They had to de-ice the plane three times before taking off. We were an hour late leaving. I kept hoping someone would start crying or screaming for a little entertainment, but no such luck. I guess the plane was full of North Dakotans.
Here’s my girlfriend in the hat that I made her getting ready to take me to the airport.
By the time we got to Denver, it was 50 and sunny. My daughter called while I was still on the first plane, so I called while I was waiting. She had heard about the nasty weather. We chatted for a while. It was nice to hear her voice. I was going to get a bite to eat, but I had a headache and nothing appealed to me. I bought a bottle of water and added a tube of lemonade mix. I felt a lot better after that. I had plenty of time so I refilled it and added iced tea mix. Since I had a two-hour wait, I found a semi-quiet space and sat down and knit and listened to my iPod.
My Husband is having an Anxiety Attack
October 18, 2010He doesn’t like to travel. Well, he doesn’t like change period. And I won’t be around for ten whole days. Now, I have often gone to Reisterstown for three or four days and that never bothered him. I used to go to Florida for work for five days at a time before 9-11. That never bothered him. He makes me crazy. Of course, it could be that the earpiece broke on his glasses and the place where he got them is gone. Since they are three years old, he should get a new prescription. At least it will give him something to do while I’m gone. I hope he can find some nice dorky frames that he likes. Oh yeah. The new cabinets finally came today. They have the wrong pulls on them and they are stained the wrong shade. Other than that, they are just like the last ones we had this same company make a few years ago. He complained to them about the pulls which can be switched, but he hasn’t decided about the stain yet. My poor baby.
I Wish I Had Brought my Camera
September 10, 2010Besides being a perfect day for a walk, there were some great Kodak moments out there. Looking out over the horse farm, I saw the most beautiful cloud formations. It was like a Hudson Valley School painting with that almost surreal appearance. One of my neighbors, an older gentleman, was decked out in a very nice suit and tie. I’m used to seeing him in a polo shirt, shorts and sandals. I didn’t ask him where he was going. I didn’t want to know. There was a bunch of ducks hanging out on the old pier so we just them(and they watched us) from the other pier. Plus, it has benches to sit on. Next on my list, one of those Nordic Cruisers went by. They’re kind of cool. Oh. I forgot the Police boat. They’re kind of funny looking.
Dot is not.
Sunday on the Nanticoke
September 7, 2010I was heading down to Salisbury for knitting group when my daughter called. They caught two full bushels of crabs and they were starting to steam them. OMG! OMG! OMG! I hadn’t had any this year so I was ready. But the girls were expecting me. That’s OK because they would be steaming for hours. I stopped at Wal-Mart to get another cooler and more enormous Hefty bags. I wished I hadn’t. The place was a zoo. It took me ten minutes just to find a parking spot. This one is super-duper and only has six handicapped spots. What’s up with that? If she had called a half hour earlier, I would have gone to Seaford. That one is only half the size and has a good fifty handicapped spots. It makes no sense. I wasted half an hour that should have taken ten.
I was about 30 minutes late to group. I said I would be leaving at 4PM to go eat crabs in an effort to make everybody jealous. We talked about some knitty problems and had a little show and tell(always fun). Maria was late as usual and I helped her with her glove. She sent me a picture this morning of the first finished one. YEAH! Around 3:45 I remembered I had six bags of yarn to get rid of in my van. So out to the van we trooped. We took it back in and dumped it on the floor for everyone to pick over. I even had a bunch of old needles that I knew I would never use. They took everything. I am so happy! The yarn got good homes.
I finally got out of there around 4:30 and headed on down the road. I still had a good half hour of driving to go. When I got there they were pigging out on hot crabs. I joined in. They still had about a hundred to cook. Is there anything better than hot steamed crabs? We all had about ten a piece. There was also corn on the cob, green beans and hot dogs. Everything was good. Observe grandson, please.

We sat and talked for a while and watched the sun set.
Time for me to go home.
