Happy to be Home

March 7, 2009

I love my children, but I am so happy to be back home.  I worry about them.  I’ll be glad when Win finds a job that he really likes instead of “just a job”.   Jenn has been having trouble with her periods.  Dr. T retired a couple years ago, but she has finally found someone else who gives her the care that we were so used to having with Dr. T.  He’s also a Hopkins doctor.  I’ll probably go back in a few weeks.

Here’s the yarn that I bought from Enchanted Knoll Farm in Maine.  It came when I left.  My not certain what I will make with it, but I really am very pleased with it.  It has a great feel and the colors are  so much better than this picture.

The heel is finished and I’m coming down to the toes.  I’m expecting my other sock club any day and I brought back sewing, knitting and crocheting to do.  My daughter can sew, but my machines do so much more than hers.  John keeps taking her fleece throw so she bought a piece for him and wants me to finish it the way I did hers.  She also wants me to change the sleeves on her tunic.  I  have a knit shirt from Win with some strange holes.  I guess it beats catching turtles for my grandson.

The snow is just about gone.  Each day has been getting a little warmer and I’m hoping to be able to sit outside this weekend.  I don’t think this is yet the beginning of Spring.  030209-050

I Had to Go

March 5, 2009

I’m in Reisterstown for  few days.  Sometimes, you just have to check on things.  My son called, so here I am.  I hadn’t seen my daughter for  while.  I haven’t been doing nothing much.  It snowed here, too.  It’s odd how you expect it to be different for some reason.  I managed to take a few pictures.

030509-008Here’s the creek on Tuesday morning before I left.  It was still very cold, but the sun was bright and there was much wind.     One of the roads that I usually take had not been plowed so I had to take state routes.  I probably could have taken the other road, but I didn’t want to get stuck.  I’m too old and creaky.

Here’s Biscuit, my son’s kitty.  She’s adorable.  She likes to look outside, but has never gone outside.  You can leave the door open and she’ll look out, but that’s about it.

We’re going to the Dutch Market tomorrow, so I may not be back until Friday.  I’ve gotten some work done on my socks, but not as much as I would like.

It Snowed

March 3, 2009

030209-016We had about four inches and it never got above freezing.  Zip went out, but the snow was too deep for him to get anywhere.  At least I didn’t have to out in it.

I worked on my second sock this morning.  I switched patterning on this one.  I keep having to take out stitches because I forget what I am doing.  I finally had the sense to copy the pattern and color the stitches and things are going better.030209-0262

One Sock is Finished

February 28, 2009

p1010891It fits perfectly.  The pattern was easy to follow and went fast.  I’ve all ready got about two inches on the second.  It’s going to be a little different.  I’ll show you later.  I’m not certain that I like it yet.

It was actually warm enough yesterday to sit outside for a while.  Today, it must be about 20 degrees cooler and the forecast is calling for snow on Monday.  Just as long as it doesn’t snow tomorrow.  I’ve got knitting group and I don’t want to miss it.  I don’t do snow.

When I was working, the big boss tried to tell me how he was on his way to work one morning and how beautiful the snowflakes were.  I knew what he was really saying.  “I don’t want you staying home whenever there’s a little snow”.  I rolled my eyes at him, got up and left his office.  He was not happy with me anyway.  When he tried to make me work mandatory overtime , I got a note from my doctor.  Several months later, they said they had “lost” it and needed a new one.  I said, “tell me exactly what it needs to say and I’ll have my doctor fax you a new one.”  Boy, I certainly don’t miss all that bull crap.

I Made Muffins

February 26, 2009

p10108841I had a couple of very ripe bananas that I wasn’t going to eat so I got out two more from the freezer.   There were some cashews whose age I did not know and I had about four bags of bittersweet chocolate.  I was trying for a dozen, but I think the chocolate chips took up too much room.  This is definitely the best recipe I have come with so I will write it up and put it on a page.

I was loading some upgrades to my embroidery software to my laptop, but they took a long time and playing with food seemed like a good idea.  Besides, Frank was here all day installing the molding and I didn’t have a decent place to sit and knit.

Ip1010880 am about to decrease for the toe which I hope to finish tonight.  Then, I can start the second.  Here’s yesterday’s progress.  This isn’t yesterday’s.  This is two days ago.  I thought I had taken a picture, but I couldn’t find it.  Even though I don’t have big feet, I had to add about an inch.  I made a design similar to the ankle trim.

If the water ever got this high, the whole Delmarva peninsula would be under water.

022109-011Usually it’s too windy to walk along the river in the winter.    It was only 30 degrees, but the sun was shining.  This is one of the reasons I like living here.

“How Sweaters Are Really Made”

Nancy sent me this picture for Christmas.  I just love it.  It is getting hung on the wall as soon as the family room is finished.  We finished the painting and Frank will be back when he finishes working on some body’s bathroom.  As a matter of fact, I like it so much, it’s my current wallpaper.   It’ll also look good on the craft room wall if and when it gets made.

It took foreverto load this sock picture.  The first one didn’t take any time.  I almost gave up, but my knitting was handy.  The foot is about half done.  It should be finished in a couple of days.

Red and Brown Socks

February 22, 2009

Here is last night’s progress on my socks.  I really like the design for the heel flap.  And, now, I am going to try and find something to watch and work on the instep.

I’ve been working this laptop all afternoon and I am tired.

Coming to You

February 21, 2009

The router set up went pretty well.  Doug put the disk in the wrong computer.  I said I think it should go in the other, but he had to try everything else first.  Argh!  It is so nice to be able to use it whenever I want.  I get tired of  asking and waiting.

022009-0051 I loaded a few pictures so let’s see how long that takes.  So far, this one is faster, but it may just be because there is not much on it.

Downloading this picture took about the same amount of time.  I’m just glad it worked.  I took this picture this morning.  It made nice wallpaper.

The second picture loaded more quickly.  Maybe it’s getting the idea.

Here’s my latest sock club from Red Bird.  The pattern is quick and easy and I’m enjoying making them.  I finished the ankle and the heel flap this evening.  I should have more pictures tomorrow.

Laptop

February 18, 2009

So I bit the bullet and bought one.  I have to go buy a router.  I hope Walmart has one.  Otherwise, I’ll have to drive down to Salisbury and pay their 6% sales tax which I hate having to do.  I have been wanting to inventory my stash and this will make it so much easier.  As usual, I went with a refurbished one from Dell.  I knew what I needed and what Iwanted.  I had looked at several at various stores and was pleasantly surprised with what I could get through Dell.  Also, the new ones had Vista and this one has XP Pro.  My mini mouse on my sewing machine works very nicely on it, but I will probably get another one anyway.  I guess I had better add a picture so here you go.
