I Didn’t Want to Do It

December 28, 2012

I had no choice.  I didn’t know how long I would have to stay.  It had been snowing for hours.  I knew I wouldn’t be going home that day.  Luckily, my daughter came to the rescue.  She’ll drive anywhere.  She had errands to run and was going to Westminster anyway.  She helped me take my machine to Jomax for its overhaul.  We went shopping and finished at the supermarket.  I bought some chops to cook for supper.

Oh. Yeah.  The thing I had to do?  I bought yarn at Micheals.  I NEVER buy yarn at Micheals.  This one only had Lion Brand and Red Heart.  Arg.  I did manage to find something of interest that I could use with the needles I brought with me.  I was saved.  I could make it here one more day.  You see.  I had just about finished the project I came with.  I had to have something to do for one more day.  You understand, don’t you?

Going to Micheals had one pleasant note.  I meant two very ladies who were just starting to knit and we chatted for a bit.

And the worse thing happened.  I didn’t even need the d**n yarn!

Ready As I Ever Will Be

December 22, 2012

Decorating my tree is always an adventure. I never found the star for the top and I still don’t know where my Minnie Mouse tree topper is. Oh, well. It’s full of brightly colored little lights and looks great from the bridge over our creek. Up close, it’s filled with a lifetime of little memories. When I decorate, I always have Bing or Luciano sing to me. I sing along. I laugh. I cry. Now. I am ready for Christmas.

Remembering Rick

December 19, 2012

I was finishing the placemats when Rick came to mind. He was a knitter who came to our little group whenever he could. He had lost his job due to the economy and didn’t have much, but he was always a pleasure to have around. One Sunday he brought in a little goodie bag to share with us. A neighbor had given him his deceased wife’s knitting things. I wasn’t going to bother, but it was passed around and wound up in my lap. I took a cursory look and saw a small stiletto. I have one, but this was short and it looked like it had a nice grip. Now, I use it every time I quilt. It’s perfect for me. I love it.
Thanks, Rick. You’re the best!

Getting Ready for Chistmas

December 9, 2012

I have one more thing to buy, but my main concern is finishing the handmade things.  I’ve got two more hats to make.  They won’t take much time.  It’s just that I haven’t finished the two biggest items.  To  make matters worse, they are for my daughter.

I Washed my Socks

Well, thirty-one pairs of them anyway.  Four needed repairs.  The eight pairs of cotton socks can go in with the regular clothes.

So.  Which picture should I use for my letterhead?

She is really good at cleaning out the vent.

She’s the only one that fits.

Avoid the Blog?

November 24, 2012

Thanksgiving is hard for me.  I get sad and grumpy.  Sweetums understands.  I don’t want to publish too much sad and grumpy so I’ll wait a few more days.  And work on my ‘happy thoughts’ mantra.

A Pie Making Day

November 7, 2012

Even though I would prefer to knit with the Warrior Princess in my lap, I made an apple pie.  This is my third this season.  I have enough apples left for two ans a half more pies, so I’m debating on getting more apples.  Two and a half  just doesn’t sound like enough.  A trip to Weber’s is planned for this weekend and Monday we’re going to Bird-in-Hand.  I’ll have two opportunities to buy apples.  I really should do it.  They are not nearly as time-consuming as they used to be.  Store bought pie crusts are now as good as I used to make.  Several years ago, my daughter gave me a crank operated peeler, slicer, corer.  Sometimes, I still need to do a little peeling and/or slicing.  Winesaps are rather misshapen so it happens.  Actually, I think my pies are better than ever because I can make them quickly and easily.

It’s All My Fault

October 30, 2012

Ever since I was a little girl, I hoped for a hurricane named Sandy.  Well, Sandra would have been even better.  You can’t have everything.  I just never thought it would happen.  It’s so far down in the alphabet.

I was wondering what this lump was in the middle of the creek, then I realized it was my sprinkler pump.

See  that sign on the right?  Are you interested in waterfront property?

Here’s Sweet Baby Rue watching the geese.

They were having so much fun, he thought he’d give it a try.  He changed his mind when his feet kept sinking into the muck.

I thought I should mention that these were taken at mid-tide.  Rue would be in several inches of water if he were there now.
