Two Down, Two to Go

March 28, 2009

I managed to complete two of my night shirts.  Maybe I will be able to get them all finished by Monday.   Then I can prepare the new fabric.  The brown print is polyester for a long sleeve blouse.  The rest of the fabric I’m not certain what I will do with them.  That’s not right.  The green with watermelon slices will be place-mats.  I forgot to buy ribbon to decorate them.  I’m such an idiot.

We had to take Doug’s car in to be fixed.  He’s been fooling with it for weeks and he finally gave in.  I hope it’s finished by Monday because I’m leaving on Tuesday.  Win has an interview on Wednesday and he wants me to help him prepare.  Thursday I’m getting my favorite birthday present.  Yeah!  Hopefully, I’ll be back on Friday.

Shopping in Dover

March 27, 2009

I’m glad I went.  I bought the couching foot, some embroidery thread(oranges and purples), a Fassett embroidery CD(75% off) and some poufy stabilizer.  I like to try different things.  Then I bought fabric.  I had a good time.

I went over to Boscov’s and bought a few kitchen type things.  I’ve been looking at new pots on line so I thought I’d check what’s in the stores.   It was a waste of time.  I did get a neat plastic bowl to put my sewing junk in that I keep by my cutting table so it wasn’t a total lose.  This is what I found when I got home.

Machine Embroidery

March 25, 2009

p1020139I did the last piece this afternoon.  I had trouble getting my name on my shirt and it should have been the easiest part.  Maybe my machine knew it was the last and didn’t want to stop.  Tomorrow, I hope to go to Dover to do some shopping, so I probably won’t get them finished until the weekend.

I’m having trouble here. I got to go.

Zippo and the Vultures

March 24, 2009

The neighbor called yesterday to tell me Zip was chasing vultures.  Those things were almost as big as him.  What was he thinking?  There was a dead squirrel in the back yard which the vultures were trying to eat.  I grabbed my camera, but Zip was gone by the time I got there.

I’ve been making good use of my embroidery machine for the last few days.  I hadn’t done any for several months.  I had forgotten how much fun it was.  I put designs on my four nightshirts and on their pockets.  I hope to finish up tomorrow.  And I’m very happy with the way John’s blanket turned out.

Well, I’m not the only one who thinks Old Mill is a waste of money.  The place I like is down near the mouth of the Nanticoke River.  The crabs are caught and cooked that day.  They don’t have regular hours, but they do call you when the crabs are especially plentiful.  They are the best!

An Even Nicer Day

February 8, 2009

p10107512We sat out on the porch for a couple of hours this afternoon and I worked on the bag while Doug read the newspaper.  I finished the bottom and am just starting to come up the sides.  The one end needs to be tidied, but that’s not a problem.  This is a good, sturdy bottom.  I try to keep it in mind next time I make something like this.  Beth was kind enough to include knitting in the round and doing each side separately.  The fewer seams the better.

I forgot to show you what I got in the mail.  I don’t know when I’ll get around to making them, but I couldn’t pass them up.

It Snowed Yesterday

January 21, 2009

You’d never know it, now.  It snowed all day and an hour later, it was all gone.  It was in the upper twenties when we went for a walk.  I stayed on the road and turned back early because I was so stiff.  Usually, by the time I get to the end of the road, I’m limber, but not today.  It’s a good thing we went out early, because the wind started blowing hard and I hate wind.  God.  This is so lame.

Pretend It’s Saturday

January 19, 2009

I was going to blog yesterday.  Really.  I was all set.  I had new pictures.  But the internet said no.  I don’t know why.  It’s really been a nice Internet.  Maybe it knew that I was still being grumpy and it didn’t want to have anything to do with that.

p1010619For the second day, the creek iced over.  It was so cold, I didn’t even go out to walk the dog.  I did get a lot of sewing done and the finished the baby socks.p10106141

Gloomy All Day

January 13, 2009

I hate days like this.  We walked down the road past the horse farm and followed the path to the river.  It was perfectly still.  The sky was gray.  The river was gray.  And very quiet.  It was eerie.  Even the dog was subdued.  I stood at the water’s edge and looked down the river.  Any second now an enormous whale will fly out of the water.  Yeah.  Right. Like that’s going to happen.  It was an exciting thought.  I walked home thinking I should wash the kitchen floor.  When the Christmas crap is put away, I usually go into cleaning mode.  It hasn’t happened yet.  I seem to be in more of a sewing mode, but I’m not quite there yet.  When I got home, I put away fabric and turned on the iron.  I ironed some of the facings to interfacing and then realized I needed to sew some together before ironing.  I looked at my sewing cabinet.  Neither machine was set up and where in the hell was my little wall lamp?   It must be time to get out the knitting.  I started an entrelac scarf.  What do you think?

p1010592I always use a circular needle for entrelac. The added flexibility really helps.  I may change to bigger needles.  I got bored with it and tried out some sock yarn.   It doesn’t do anything for me either.p1010593  But, it makes for a good sample.

Excuse me.  I’ve got to go let a cat out of the basement.

The Joy of Fabric

January 11, 2009

We FINALLY put the tree away!  Ive had everything else packed up for the past week.  At first, Doug wanted to leave it up for a while because Olive enjoys it so much.  I was able to convince him that it’s not good for her to be doing all that climbing, especially since she pulled out all her stitches.

p1010577  I hope this isn’t too gross for anybody.  Well, actually, I don’t really care.  This is my blog.  It’s not red, swollen or weeping so I’m just going to keep an eye on it.  She is much more active today so I think she will be all right.

I set up my cutting table this afternoon and started to pull out appropriate nightie fabric.  I going to make two  or three or maybe four.  I like these the best.  I’ve got two cut out so far.  I might as well go for four.

p1010578p1010580p1010583 p1010584

I finished one sock.  The yarn is great, but the pattern isn’t.  The sock is a little too wide, but not unwearable.  I’m beginning to wonder why I even try these patterns.  I have plenty of my own.  If the yarn they send wasn’t always so nice, I’d stop getting it.  I should be getting my Red Bird  kit some tine this month.  Then, I’ll be happy.

Turtlenecks

November 19, 2008

I rode over to LL Bean near Rehboth Beach this afternoon.  I could use some new turtlenecks, but I didn’t have any luck.  All they had in my size was blue.  Not only is it not my favorite color, I already have two.  They didn’t have any in my daughter’s size either.  They were all regular, no talls.  She not all that tall.  She has a long body like me.  At least she doesn’t have my short legs.

p1010066

I found dishes with pine cones on them for Paul and Linda.  Linda has decorated her kitchen with them.  This set has four mugs, four bowls, four dinner plates and four luncheon plates.  I don’t know about Paul, but Linda will love them.  Paul may be sick of pine cones for all I know.  But I do let him play with my cats.

I also bought one of those cutesy fire starter kits for my son-in-law.  I never know what to give him anyway.

I got this kit at a shop in Lewes.  I don’t know yet whether I am going to give it as is or make it for someone.  Since the shop in about half a block from the ocean, I drove down there to have a look.  It was very windy with big waves.  I wouldn’t have gotten in if it was ninety degrees, but there were some people sitting on the beach.  Me?  I didn’t even get out  of the car.
