I Tried

October 7, 2008

All but two of the bills were paid.(I ran out of stamps).  One form was filed out.(The other nay not be necessary).  One phone call was made.(But they have to call back).  A bunch of fabric was washed and hung out.  I baked some chicken breasts along with some dressing.  I even made gravy.  I steamed some broccoli and sprinkled a little cheese on top.  Knitting progressed.

The color isn’t right, but the stitches are clear.  See that little white speck?  It’s a piece of cheese.

Life After Sanquhar Gloves

October 5, 2008

After I finished the gloves, I did all my homework for my Stitches classes and started another pair of socks.  I am using the club yarn I got last month, but I am  not using the pattern.  I found something I liked better.  It’s from More Big Girl Knits.  There were two sock patterns in the book and I like them both.

I like the lace pattern and the hemmed cuff.

Look at this tidy cuff.  I love it.

I was surprised at how much I accomplished in what seemed to be a short amount of time.  I am so glad to be through with the gloves.  I felt like I had been working on them forever.  Usually a pair of gloves takes a couple of weeks, not months.

The pattern said to make a crochet cast on from waste yarn.  I’ll probably do a provisional cast on with the other sock.  The result will be the same and you don’t see it anyway.  It’s just that I am left handed, but I knit right handed, sort of.  I can give myself a headache trying to think backward.  Here, I have done the hem and am ready to pick up the edge.  The pattern said to unravel a few stitches at a time, but I did eighteen at a time.  It was quicker.

Put the unravelled stitches on a size smaller needle.  Bring them up and knit through the stitch on both needles.  It’s a little awkward at first, but it soon goes quickly.  Keep the stitches tight and even.  It’s a great look and well worth the effort.  This cuff also looks good on sleeves.

I really think I am going to like these socks.

Vice-Presidential Debate

October 3, 2008

I didn’t watch it.  I didn’t want to go to bed with a headache.  I did get some sewing done on my gloves.  They aren’t finished.  The top of one finger didn’t look right so I took it out.  It only involves about six rows.  It won’t take long to fix.

I took this in the afternoon.

And the quilt.

What Day Is It?

October 2, 2008

Doug said we have to go to the supermarket tomorrow.  Wait a minute.  Didn’t we just go yesterday?  It feels like it.  No.  That was eight days ago.  How did that happen?   Sometimes I feel like I am living in two worlds.  People shouldn’t have two houses.  It’s too confusing.  I’ll be glad when my son is out on his own and the house is sold.  My underpants there are starting to dry rot.

Here’s the fabric I bought to make new nightgowns.

Gloves or socks?

Orange Crush is Finished

October 1, 2008

I am very happy to report that I finished my quilt today.  I am still in Reisterstown so no picture yet.  I put it on the bed.  It looks good.  Maybe the weather will be nice when I get home and I can hang it out on the line for a picture.

I got some framing prices for Win’s diploma and wound up at an art studio down the street.  I got just what I wanted and the price was a lot better than going through the school.  I think it looks better than what they had to offer.

Tomorrow, I will be heading home.  My leg still hurts from walking around on concrete yesterday.  I want to stop in Catonsville again and at another furniture store on the way home so I’m hoping I’ll feel better.  I also finished my gloves and will have pictures for you.  I had a nice visit, but I will be happy to get home.

Steamed Shrimp

September 29, 2008

I went through stuff today and threw things out.  Some things you just have to do alone.  Doug would have to go through every little thing first.  There has been a box on the floor of the linen closet for about twenty years that Doug keeps meaning to go through.  I decided that he didn’t really need anything in it and threw the whole box out.

We went to my daughter’s home for supper.  She had steamed shrimp and hot dogs.  Her mother-in-law brought a cake.  I would have preferred that she had not come.  There were things that I wanted to discuss with Jenn, but this woman has her own opinion about everything.  I can’t talk around her.

I may stay until Tuesday.  Win is off on that day and he can do some physical stuff for me.  I also want to look for a table.  There’s a store nearby that’s going out of business so I think I’ll have a look.  There’s a Disney store there also.  Maybe I’ll find something to lift my spirits.

Stop in Catonsville

September 28, 2008

I stopped in Catonsville before I got to Reisterstown.  I needed a needle for class.  I was surprised that I didn’t have every single size and type in existence.  I also bought some yarn.  What can I say?  It’s hot pink and orange.  I’ll post a picture when I get back.  I also went to the fabric shop next door.  They had a lot of Laurel Burch Christmas fabric.  I bought two panels and some yellow.  When I got to the house, I called Doug and had him look for the directions for a wall hanging.  He said he really the fabrics and could I make a bed quilt.  I am not ready for that yet.  I haven’t finished the last one.

It rained all last night and I thought that it was over.  I wanted to get some fabric for new nighties.  I found three and decided to go to Parkville.  When I was about half way there, the skies opened again.  It poured while I was in the store and it was impossible see to drive.  I wanted to go to one more place, but I didn’t.  It wasn’t worth the effort.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

September 25, 2008

Little Maudie wants to play.  And she doesn’t want to hear anything about coming again another day.

I, on the other hand, managed to get a few things accomplished.  The quilting is finished and I cut, sewed, and ironed the binding.  I still have to sew it down.  Some knitting was also accomplished.

Going Out Tonight

September 24, 2008

So I thought that I would blog now.  I have a bunch of other boring crap that must be done, too.  We washed and hung everything out since it was so windy.  It all smells so good.  Darn.  I just remembered I didn’t wash any nighties.  Well, at least the sheets will be nice.

I have been trying to get my supplies for Stitches.  I bought yarn for the purse and some reading material.

Zippo helped with product placement.
