Herringbone Kimono, 2010 Calendar

December 16, 2009

It was deceit enough to take a picture outside.  I really liked making this sweater.  Coming up the back and going down the front was a nice feature.  I still haven’t decided on buttons yet, but the baby isn’t due until February, so there’s time.  I may just let my daughter decide.

Here’s the Jim Shore calendar wall quilt that I made for my daughter.  I personalized it by adding an appliqued heart and special dates.  I added five hanger loops across the top with the leftover binding.  I’m very happy with the results.

I rode down to Salisbury yesterday and bought three bags of Pecan Yummies for my son-in-law at the UPS store.  I’m not certain he will get all three bags.  They do look yummy.

I’m Stiff

December 13, 2009

It’s really been cold for the past few days.  I even had to wear a coat.  Yesterday, it was so windy, we didn’t get very far.  Today, with no wind, we were out for quite a while.  I was really tired and achy when we got back.

I tried to finish my daughter’s calendar quilt this afternoon and had to stop.  Usually, I can sit there for hours, but now today.  So I decided it was time to put up the Christmas tree.  Well, I got Doug to bring it up from the cellar.  No matter what we did, we couldn’t some of the strings of lights to work.  Bummer.  We’ve got to find some more lights.  I never did get any ornaments on.

High High Tide

December 10, 2009

It rained all night.  The geese love it.  They can stand on the bulkhead and still be in the water.  Everything is sodden.  I didn’t get much of a walk because of it.  The weather was mild so Doug put out the Christmas lights on the deck.  I had been out shopping this afternoon and they were so pretty when I came over the bridge.  Of course, I forgot to stop at the bank so I have to run out again tomorrow.   It’s supposed to be a lot colder.

I have the kimono blocked.  Maybe tomorrow I can start putting it together.  I found some snaps and buttons.  Wal-Mart doesn’t have much at all anymore.  They only had one kind of snaps and they were black.  At least I have plenty of buttons.  In the meantime, I’ve started Heritage Booties with the same yarn.  I thought about making a hat to go with the kimono, but I really liked the booties.

I don’t understand why anyone would send an “Edible Arrangements”.  You have to eat that stuff right away.  You don’t know how long they were sitting around either.  You know, I don’t think I could eat it.  I’d probably sit it out back and let the birds eat.

Well, I’m Bummed

December 4, 2009

Is that a word?  Oh, who cares.  It suits.  I went to the urologist this morning.  While I was away, they called to change my appointment to AN HOUR earlier so I wasn’t happy anyway.  The doctor probably had plans for the weekend.  After a forty minute drive and having to wait, (at least I had my knitting), I was told that surgery wouldn’t help.  He could have done that on the phone.  He talked about physical theory, but only a few places did it so another forty minute drive each way.  He was pushing to try something that involved me coming every week (for the rest of my life?), but most insurance companies don’t cover it.  It seems it only has a less than fifty percent success rate.  Why bother.   And I’m not taking those stupid pills either.

Happy thoughts!  Happy thoughts!

So I went and got a haircut.  It looks good.  It’s only down to my chin.  It was entirely too long.  Long is fine in the summer when it’s hot and I can wear it up.  But when it’s cold and takes forever to dry, (I don’t have time for a blow dryer) it’s has to come off.  If I weren’t so ugly, I’d take my picture.  It looks that good.

I’ve started te first sleeve on the baby kimono.  I just noticed that you can see the increases after the seed stitch cuff.  Bummer.  What did I do?  I’m not going to worry about it.  The mother will never notice.  It is so cute!  Don’t you think?

I like the way it crosses over in the front, but I am not looking forward to sewing on the snaps.  I’ll have to think about it.  I need to take a better picture.  You can’t see the colors here—— lime, blue, pink, aqua and cream.

Miss Linda just called.  She wants to go to Pizza King for hot sandwiches.  It sounds like comfort food to me.  I can handle that.

Glad to be Home

December 3, 2009

For the third time, it rained all the way home.  Everyone is still alive.  But, what I would like to know is, how can one man get so many dishes dirty in just two days?  Then he says he ate right before I got in and doesn’t want supper.  So I’m sitting at the computer around 5:30 and he asks what’s for dinner.  And he wonders why I’m always threatening to beat him to death.  Now I’m not sure I’m glad to be home.  If I can get up off my dead ass, I’ll take baby sweater pictures tomorrow.

The Day After

November 28, 2009

My son left this morning with some leftovers and his favorite cake.  Since I already had the turkey out, I cut off the rest of the meat and threw the carcass out.  My husband asked if I was going to boil the carcass to make soup.  I looked at him like he was out of his mind.  I gave Gus and the kitties some of the yucky stuff.  Olive said, ‘no, thanks’.  Flo ate a good deal of it.  I had to give her a separate plate because she kept growling at everyone else.  I think she is going to be one of those round kitties.  I’ll do what I can, but it’s hard with other cats to feed.

It’s Over

November 27, 2009

I don’t think I’ll do this anymore.  I did it mainly because my son was coming.  It was nice having him.  Before I retired, I usually worked on the day after Thanksgiving.  It was a great day to work.  I got a lot done since there was so few people there and no one to bother me.  When Winston was little, we would go to the Smithsonian.  If the weather was nice, we would got tot he zoo.  If not, we did a museum.  We also went to the movies a couple of times.  I miss that.

Waiting

November 26, 2009

I made my pies.  We had burritos for supper.  Now I’m waiting for my son which is stupid because he hasn’t even left yet.  It takes two hours to get here.  It’s a terrible day to be driving.  That’s why he is waiting until 7PM to leave.  I hope he remembers the cider and pumpkin pie.  I’m waiting.

Rain Again

November 24, 2009

So, no dog walk.  I made some mashed potatoes and took a shower.  When the potatoes cooled, I made roll dough and put them in the refrigerator until tomorrow.   While Doug made up his mind as to what he wanted to bake, I finished the embroidery.

I love my embroidery machine.  This is going to be a label to put on the back.    I’m also doing some applique.

Here’s another picture of the label.

Doug went with cherry almond muffins.  It was a mix that I bought in Intercourse last week.  And they were good, too.  Maybe, I’ll make buckwheat pancakes Thrusday morning.  It’s another mix, too.

I Had to Go to Food Lion

November 21, 2009

Doug talked me into it.  They have the carpet stuff that he likes to use.  I was hoping for butter pecan syrup, but it seems they don’t carry it anymore.  Bummer.  We bought a bunch of stuff that I know I wouldn’t have bought otherwise.  I also got a ham and a turkey.  Now I’ll have to cook them.  I like to make yeast rolls and apple pies, but all that smelly meat is too much.  I’m not a vegetarian.  I’m just not a big meat-eater—- or cooker.  My son is off on Thanksgiving and Friday so he’s coming down and I’ll have another person to eat it.  I am feeling better the last few days so I think I’ll be better this year.  I think going to the cemetery early this year was the right thing to do.
