Frank was here all day yesterday making a helluva lot of noise. It wasn’t long before I wanted to hide with the cats. He put in a long day and I thought he would never leave. He tried to scare me by commenting on all the bugs crawling out of the wall. I didn’t bat an eyelash. When you’ve lived with Doug as long as I have, you learn not to take anything seriously that anybody tells you. But, then, I’ve never been one of those squealy girls.

yarn room I can only get to a small portion of my yarn. I did manage to get some out before it was too late. One of them was my Coraline glove yarn.Coaline yarn
The orange is off, but it was the best that I could do. I wanted to get all the colors from one company. And it had to be the right kind. This batch is DK weight. I also have fingering. Anybody want Coraline gloves?
I’d better go. It’s starting to rain and I need to do a few things.

I’m going to see if they fit tomorrow. Then I’m going yarn and/or fabric shopping with my girlfriends.
My daughter called this morning. She was buying Disney antenna toppers and having a ball. It’s nice to know she is still my little girl at heart. They are in Orlando for a few days before going to Key West. They took two weeks off. I hope they have lots of fun.

I started these socks two days ago. I took what I had done apart yesterday. I really tried to like them, but I couldn’t do it. This is the first time this has happened. Red Bird kits have always been so much fun, but the Jazz Dance socks are not for me. I have a few other patterns in mind. In the meantime, I’m making gloves for someone who lost a finger. That should be fun.
I had my annual eye exam this morning. My cataract is growing. Bummer. I have to go back in eight months. I’ve had it for about sixty years. My brother hit me in the eye with his slingshot. We had recently moved into our first house and didn’t own a car. The local doctor said I should go to Wilmer at Hopkins. I didn’t want to go. We would have to take a bus, a streetcar and a bus to get there. I hated the ride. I had been going there since I was two for “lazy eye”. The best part was the blood on my eye. It rolled around when I tilted my head. It made my mother sick so I did it as much as I could. I loved it.

We went out about an hour early this morning and it was ten degrees higher than when it is normal hot. After one block I said I was going to the end of our road and turning back. And I haven’t been out since then. I fixed tuna salad for supper. I asked Doug to get potato chips. He tried to talk me into going to the supermarket. I said, “No”. So he went to Fran’s and bought chips. Utz, of course. He’s such a “sweetie”. I hate that word. And people around here use it A LOT. Two lifetimes ago, when I lived in California, I saw commercials for Granny Goose potato chips. A cowboy rode up on his horse, reach into in saddlebag and pull out a bag of chips. Then he said, “My name is Granny Goose”. I think he was also in a western TV series, but I can’t remember what it was. I’ll have to look that up later.
I fixed a blouse this afternoon. A tie had come loose and I didn’t want the girls wandering off. I am a bit mad at myself for doing a lousy job when I made it so it took me a while to get around to fixing. It wouldn’t’ve mattered so much if it was store-bought. I also decided to add embroidery to my nightie.

I was going to sew. I never got around to it. I woke up thinking about blueberries. So I made blueberry almond coffee cake for breakfast. Doug ate two pieces. We went for a walk, but not much of one. It was too bleeding-ass hot. And it wasn’t even 9AM!!! We watched some TV and I did some knitting. Not even the cats were outside much. They slept most of the day, went out after supper and came back in. I’ve been thinking about ‘What’ll I Do’ by Irving Berlin. I think I’ll try to find it for my iPod. I know that it’s been recorded by a few people. If I could find Irving singing it, I’d be happy.

I finally cooked the Italian sausage I bought about ten days ago. I kept hoping the weather would improve. I gave it up today and cooked the things. I hate it when I buy meat at the supermarket and then I want to throw it out. I have to make myself cook it. It really was very good. I threw spaghetti sauce on it and had fresh parmesan cheese. I cooked tiny shells and peas. It made a nice tasty meal. Sometimes, I wonder what is the matter with me. Maybe it’s the sinus headache that I had all afternoon.
Here’s a better sock picture. I am very happy with the stripes. I worked on them for a little while on the porch this afternoon. The heat and my headache drove me back inside. I worked on my nightie, but I had to stop. I wish I had it finished.
Doug is still ripping up the dining room. Cora is trying to take up the carpeting, but she hasn’t quite got it figured out.
Or maybe she wanted it to stay right where it was. She’ll change her mind when she sees the nice tile floor.

How did I manage this? I decided that it was more important to match the neckline than the shoulder. I cut off the excess and, happily, the sleeve fit right in. After all, it’s just a nightie.
My son came down yesterday. It was his twenty-fifth birthday. It doesn’t seem that long ago when I was pregnant. It’s really hard sometimes to think of him as an adult. He reminds me of Doug at times. At other times, he’s my little brother, and sometimes, even my Daddy. I wish Daddy had known him. I’m sure he would have loved the fact that he could look him right in the eye. They’re both six-foot five.

When I got up this morning and opened the back door for Flo, I was hit with a marvelously cool breeze. I made myself a cup of coffee and went to worry Doug out of bed while I dressed. We walked around the horse farm without sweating from every single pore. It was so beautiful sitting out on the pier over the Nanticoke. When we got home, I took my breakfast out to the deck and watched the ducks. I had al ready opened all the doors and windows to air out the house. The girls also love the cooler weather. They played tag for hours and were in early to sleep. It is getting down to 58 degrees tonight. I can hardly wait for a good night’s sleep with the windows open and real air coming in.

Maria called me last night in need of knitting help. It took a while for me to figure out what her problem was, then she couldn’t figure out what I was saying. It was decided that she had better come up. So, around 2:30 she showed up with Leslie. It didn’t take long to fix her knitting. I hope she remembers what I did. Since they were here, I dragged out all the yarn and needles that I didn’t want. They took about two-thirds of it. Maria suggested keeping the rest for newbies that come to knitting group to help get them started. I made blueberry almond coffee cake and iced tea. We had a pleasant afternoon discussing patterns, needles, and yarn.
