New Camera

December 30, 2009

My daughter bought my son and me a small digital camera.  I’ve been wanting one to carry when I am walking and Win’s is old.  It’s something I wouldn’t buy for myself because I all ready have a good digital, but this new one certainly is handy.  I took it with me yesterday.  It takes decent pictures.

This is the pier that my neighbor lets me enjoy.   I didn’t sit there today.  It was too cold and windy.  I didn’t relish the possibility of going in the river.  Can you see how high the tide is?

Jenn came down yesterday with a load of firewood for Doug.  She brought enough for two or three years.  Doug was happy as can be.

Here’s my goofy Gus.  He loves his walk.  If it weren’t for him, we probably wouldn’t walk nearly as much as we do.

Flo loves to curl up on my sweaters.

I’ve been looking for my camera case pattern, but I can’t find it anywhere.  Win has all ready asked for a case.  He wants red.  I have a nice metallic knit and some brown suede for the inside.   I haven’t decided on mine yet.  I have lots of pieces I can use.

The Day After

November 28, 2009

My son left this morning with some leftovers and his favorite cake.  Since I already had the turkey out, I cut off the rest of the meat and threw the carcass out.  My husband asked if I was going to boil the carcass to make soup.  I looked at him like he was out of his mind.  I gave Gus and the kitties some of the yucky stuff.  Olive said, ‘no, thanks’.  Flo ate a good deal of it.  I had to give her a separate plate because she kept growling at everyone else.  I think she is going to be one of those round kitties.  I’ll do what I can, but it’s hard with other cats to feed.

Heat

November 6, 2009

We finally turned it on this afternoon.  We go through this every year.  Do we turn it on or grin and bear it?  It was all right when we were trying to clean for company this evening.  But then it was time to shower and my bathroom is cooler than the rest of the house.  And Flo kept trying to adhere herself to us.  So, you know where her vote went.  We did find one alternative.

Little Coriolis Baby Socks

These socks are fun to make.  I had never made toe-up socks before.  I’m still not sure if I’ll make myself a pair.  I like the diagonal line so I may.  Flo wasn’t much help.

I started work on a small wall quilt for Jen for Christmas.  It has finally gotten too cool to be outside.  I didn’t too far.  When I was changing the blade, I sliced my thumb a little.  Luckily, I didn’t get any blood on the fabric.

It’s not cold enough to turn the heat on, so I make lime bars to warm it up a little this afternoon.  This evening, we have a fire going.

Cat Toys

Doug got out the ladder to clean out the gutters and get the big piles of leaves that had settled in the corners of the roof.  After he was finished, the roof inspector came.100609 005

100609 009After a long and hard look, she deemed it satisfactory.  Her assistant also had a look around, but she refused to be photographed.  Inspecting the border fencing was her level of expertise.

Today, It Was The Podiatrist

September 29, 2009

Once in a while, I’ll get a cyst on the bottom of my foot.  I usually dig them out myself.  This one was on my right foot near my fifth toe.  I couldn’t turn my foot enough to get at it without pain in my hip.  After two years, I know how far I can stress my hip.  So, off I went to the podiatrist.  After an hour wait, he spent about five minutes digging it out.  Good thing I had my knitting.  I got an inch done on my socks.

My dear husband had a contractor come today.  We want to turn the back half of the garage into a hobby room.  It will be great to have all my stuff in one place and to able to have both my sewing machines out.  The back half of the wall in the family room by the garage will be removed and the whole area will have a wood floor.  There will also be a tiled laundry room.  So now my cheap husband is agonizing over how much it will cost.

First Day Out

September 20, 2009

We let the girls out after coming home from our walk.  Cora ran herself ragged and Flo had a great time, too.  091809 011Taking pictures of Cora was almost impossible.091809 009They stayed around the deck, darting in and out and up and down and all around.091809 013Zippo kept a watchful eye on them.091809 017Olive kept trying to get them to come inside.   They came in of their own accord after about two hours and everyone took a long nap.

This pattern is in Knitted Jackets by Cheryl Oberle.  I bought the yarn several years ago at Maryland Sheep and Wool.  It’s hand dyed and hand spun.  I tried several different patterns before I finally decided on this one.  The yarn is a bit rough so it had to be a jacket rather than something close to the skin.  So far the gauge is spot on and I like the texture.
