Laurel Pizzeria

July 19, 2009

We went there for a pizza to see how it was.  We got the house special and added anchovies.  I have to have anchovies.  Don’t take me out for pizza to any pizzeria that doesn’t have anchovies.

The pizza was very good.  The cheese was especially good and there was plenty of it.   There was plenty of everything.  We really enjoyed it.  The only thing I didn’t like was the background music.  It was a too loud Frank Sinatra record.  A little variety would have been nice.

Thursday and Friday were hot and humid so we put the air conditioning on.  Today was so nice we turned it off when the sun went down.  It is supposed to be in the 50s overnight.  Good sleeping weather.

I had to take Gus to the vet on Thursday.  His ears were bothering him.  He has two pills to take twice a day, an ear wash and ear drops.  I have to shove the pills down his throat.  He will come to me even though he knows what I am going to do.  Maybe it’s because he knows he will get a treat afterwards.  He really is a good boy about it.

Many years ago, I had a shepherd-husky mix that ate anything I put in his bowl.  I would  just toss the pills in his bowl and he’d eat them.  I could also toss them in his general direction and he’d catch them and swallow them down.  One evening when I was pregnant, I dropped a prenatal vitamin.  He swallowed it and he was up all night.  I was up a lot anyway to use the toilet and I could hear him pacing downstairs.

Too Nice Outside to Be Inside

July 10, 2009

You know.  I have things to do inside, but I can’t get myself to stay inside.  The weather has been perfect.  It is so unusual for July.  We’ve only had the air conditioning on a few days.  So, I’m outside enjoying myself.  I am so far behind in my blog reading it’s embarrassing.  I have e-mails to answer and clothes to alter.  I even bought new shorts at Walmart so I’d have enough for the week.  I have been getting some knitting done out on the deck.  It’s that nice.

A friend asked for pictures of Flo.  She’s hard to catch when she’s awake.

I Have One Opera Glove

July 1, 2009

063009 009

I got to the elbow and decided not to go any farther.  I stopped  twenty rows short and made a six row knit1, purl 1 ribbing.  The directions called for a tubular cast off which I didn’t bother with.  It’s like a Kitchener stitch which I can’t stand.  I bound off in rib.  It looks good and still has plenty of give.

I’ve decided to start the next glove at the elbow and work to the fingers.  If I have trouble weaving in the ends, then so be it.  Except for one time when I fell and got a hole in the middle of a glove,  I tend to wear holes in the thumbs and forefingers.  So any repaired fingers will start at the base and end at the tips.  It was interesting making fingers from the top down, but not practical.

Opera Gloves

Well, I’m really happy with the way these gloves are moving along.  The directions are very good and I was pleasantly surprised when they said to sew the gaps and weave in the ends at this point.  That’s what  I was planning to do anyway.  My only complaint is the chart.  It’s too small.  I have to look too closely.  If it had been put on two whole pages instead of two half pages, it would be a lot easier to read.

062309 020Cora  is a little pooky today.  She sneezed a few times and she slept a lot today.  Her apatite is good.  I looked at her teeth.  She’s teething.

Hooter and the Hooterettes

June 16, 2009

Hooter was Elvis’s mother.  She was a black and white Angora type.  Her first litter consisted of Bunny, Terry, Sammie and Ben.  The second was Elvis, Mitzi, Spot and Rocky.  Hooter had calcium deficiency with the second litter and we had to bottle feed them.  I kept Elvis and Spot and mother took Mitzi and Rocky.  My daughter came over at lunch time to feed them.  For a few weeks, it was pretty hectic, but they all made it.  We called them Hooter and the Hooterettes.  Now they are all gone. I love the thought of them all performing together in Kitty Graceland.  Thanks, Janice, for putting this picture in my head.

I called my son to tell him about Elvis and said I was going to look for another.  He immediately asked if Iwas coming.  He wanted to come, too.  So, I’m going to Reisterstown tomorrow for a few days.  There are some shelters where I intend to look.  I’ve always had good luck with them.

The Squirrel is Gone

June 4, 2009

I am so glad.  Those things can be so destructive.  At least, Zip took it down to the basement.  Gus would have gone ballistic.   He was acting crazy enough when Zip ran through.

I haven’t worked on the sunhats.  The weather has been too nice for me to stay inside.  It is supposed to be rainny for the next few days so Maybe I’ll get them done.

The Noro gloves are coming along.  I’m above the thumb gusset.  I amy have them finished by the end of the week.

Squirrel in the Basement

June 2, 2009

Zip likes to chase squirrels.  Today, he managed to one that was about half grown.   The back door was open.  In came Zip and ran down the stairs where he dropped it.  And lost it.  It’s still down there.  We left a window open and we are hoping it will leave on its own.  If not, we’ll have to get a trap.  There are so many things that it could get into.  I hate to think about it.032609 021
