Yeah, The Sun is Out

May 14, 2008

Noro sockI finished one sock.  It was fun to make.  The yarn is a bit wonky, but it should soften after washing. The yarn is 30% nylon so I am assuming they will last.  The yarn over have me worried.  Maybe I will give them to someone and let them worry about it.

I spent a long time going through the new software and moving things around to where I liked them.  I have a better understanding of what it can do and I am beginning to like it.

Mother\'s Day

I got this from my children.  It’s really great because it is actually five potted flowers that I can plant outside and enjoy for months to come.  Do they know me or what?

I have never been big on Mother’s Day and they know it, but sometimes I get something neat like this and that what makes it really special.  When they were little, I didn’t really have any money for extras.  We celebrated birthdays and Christmas and I made them up for Halloween.  I told them that I knew they loved me as much as I loved them and gifts were not necessary.  When they started school, they brought me homemade cards that I still have ‘somewhere’.

Are those walls too pink?  They make me feel happy.  It beats the crap out of the nothing color that was up there before.

Isn’t this a great card?  Socks are very important to me.  I have two drawers of them.  I can’t stand getting my feet dirty.

My Little Girl

April 24, 2008

There are times when I wish that I really didn’t like animals. And last night was definitely one of them. Maude was gone from 1PM until 6AM. I didn’t get to sleep until after 1AM. We left the back door to the garage open a few inches and locked the door to the house. At 3:30, she still had not come home. Finally, at 6AM, she came bounding in from the garage and headed for the chow. I opened a fresh can of chicken for her. She was really hungry. I was so glad to see her and so mad at her. I told her she was a very bad girl in a very sweet voice. I didn’t want her to get the wrong idea, but I needed to say it. She does like to wander, but she always heads home when it gets dark. I bought her for her “A” personality. She does not let Zip run over her. She thinks she weights thirty pounds. I could never keep her in. She doesn’t like to be held, but she will get in your lap and she likes to petted and scratched. She’s a pistol.

Now she’s catching up on her sleep.

It was such a nice day that I sat out back and worked on my socks. I am starting the heel. I have done this heel before, but it has been a long time. Thanks to Lucy’s excellent instructions, the heel is now finished.

Here is how it looked this afternoon.

I also started sewing together my little squares and triangles.

And now, I think I’ll take my book and go to bed.

Spring

April 10, 2008

Spring came to my house today.  I spent the afternoon on the porch.  I finished my socks.  They are just right.  I do need to remember to tuck in the hang ties when I walk around in them.  I made a swatch with the Noro sock yarn and gave it a good wash.    After a good scrubbing, it feels and looks softer.  That’s it for today.  I’m going back outside.

You Make My Day Awards

January 27, 2008

These awards are not in order of importance. It would cause me to think and I have decided not to do that today.

  1. Linda and Paul—Neighbors and now friends.
  2. Nancy—She renewed our friendship after about 50 years. We still have a lot in common.
  3. Jenn—Daughter extraordinaire. What more can I say?
  4. Winston—Son I never thought I would have again.
  5. Doug—Husband that I haven’t beaten to death yet.
  6. Bill and Maddie—My brother and sister-in-law. They still love me even when the “Mother” in me shows. They know what I mean.
  7. Colette and Suzette—Always very nice ladies. I think they got stuck together the first day they started working.
  8. Diana and Carol—They asked me to lunch several years ago. Now there are seven of us.
  9. Christine—My newest friend. I like the way she thinks.
  10. Kevin—Grandson. I figure I won’t get another until I’m eighty so I am going to enjoy the hell out of this one.

I could add the couple on the point. They are so clueless. They’re a constant source of entertainment for Linda and me. Doug said that if he can’t decide what to do, he can ask Mike and then do the opposite. He hasn’t made a good decision since he moved here. How did I get on this tract? Happy Thoughts. Happy Thoughts.

I watched one of my Lucy Neatby DVDs this afternoon. It had been a while since I did a provisional cast on and I wanted a refresher. I watched it the whole two hours. It was so good that I wanted to watch all of them right then. But sanity returned. I do plan to buy most of them in time. I have started on a wimple. When it gets a little further along, I’ll post a picture.

Look at this hole. I really like these socks. So—-do I take them apart back to the heel or patch it? I think this is going to be left for summer.

The Mittens are in the Mail

December 14, 2007

I drove up to the post office this afternoon and deposited my package in the slot inside. Mercifully, it just fit. There was a long line at the window and I had more then enough stamps on it. The bridge over the river is out for two weeks so I had to drive out to the highway and come back in. It took about three times as long as usual.

The socks were a pair I started last summer, but forgot about until I was looking for yarn. The mittens were made from Lion Brand yarn that I think my mother had. It said machine washable and dryable on the label. It was the only kind she would use. They are thick and soft so I hope they make someone happy. Now I can get back to my daughter’s tunic. The reindeer are also about done, but I am not looking forward to putting them all together. It will be worth it. They really look good.

Here are my oldest and newest Haflingers. I love these shoes. They were made for me. The arch is perfect. I can put on a brand new pair and wear them all day like they were my oldest. That includes walking down to the horse farm with my goofy dog. I wonder how long I can go without scraping them. I bought two pair because that’s what they had on sale in my size.
