We walked the dog. I sewed some. I knitted some. We went to the supermarket. Doug bought 700 or 800 lbs of bricks and put them in the back of my van. It rode funny. I think Van was a little frightened. He was glad to be back in his garage. I promised to take him over the big bridge in a week or two. That seemed to make him feel better.
Another Boring Post
September 18, 2008I Almost Put on Long Pants
September 17, 2008But I managed to suppress the urge. I did opt for a long sleeve shirt after our walk this morning. We had some rain, but we had to turn on the sprinklers when the tide came up. I jumped to part six on my quilt plan. It’s definitely more fun than part five. I”ll get back to it after part six. Then, it’s on to the binding. I should also make a label. I’ve got two I made up for other stuff so maybe I’ll just have to change the date.
The gloves are growing a finger. I am really getting good at fixing errors, but those tiny stitches are making me crazy. A dropped stitch can get lost quickly. I’m glad I mentioned the changes on the first glove in this blog. It helps. I’d like to knit faster. I can’t get any speed with these tiny needles. At times, I feel like I have been knitting a whole sweater.
That’s Much Better
September 16, 2008It is so much nicer outside today. We went for a really long walk. I’m looking forward to sleeping with the windows open tonight. Mary is getting braver and I got some nice shots of her this morning.
I sat out back for a while this afternoon and knitted. I’m just about ready to start the fingers. i will be glad when these are done and I can go on to something else.
I laid my quilt to get a better look at it and decided that it doesn’t look bad at all. I didn’t work on it today. Too nice outside.
Too Humid to do Anything Outside
September 15, 2008I worked a long time on my quilt, probably too much. The last lines don’t look good and I may take them out and do something different. I did finish part three and I decided that part four was unnecessary. I started on part five, but I should not have. I was getting tired and it’s messy. Maude, however, does agree that I should have stopped earlier. She would have had more time to sleep.
Mary was out for a while this afternoon.
I knit for a while this evening, but it doesn’t look too good either.
Was I Up for the Challenge?
September 14, 2008
Well. I wasn’t last night. That’s for sure. I had two motifs backward. They had to be removed, but I wasn’t about to frog three whole rounds so I did just the section that was wrong.
Actually, it’s only three rows, but trying to do it with two colors is a pain. Its looks a little loose on the left side so I’ll have to tweak the stitches a bit.
More Boating Pictures
September 13, 2008Boating
September 12, 2008I would never own a boat, but our neighbors do, so we went for a ride.
This is the train bridge. It has to be turned ninety degrees when a train comes. It’s flat here you know. Last year when we were out, the thing got stuck closed and they had to wait for someone to come and fix it. The tide was getting too low to go up our creek so Paul went down the river and parked at another neighbors pier. It was less than a half mile from home, so we walked.
You can’t see my house from the river, but this one is on the other side of our creek. We are around the corner.
Work is in progress on the Woodland Ferry. It is supposed to be finished in November. I won’t be out on the river to find out. I may take the ferry.
I like the stop sign. More tomorrow. I’m going to bed.
My Feet are Cold
September 11, 2008The temperature drops below eighty and my feet get cold. I could have put on a pair of my wool socks, but I was being lazy and I went with closed toe shoes. I don’t think it went much above seventy today. I had to put on a long sleeved shirt when we went to the supermarket. I’m still running around in shorts though. I really shouldn’t. I have arthritis in both knees.
I worked on my quilt for a little while today. I’m about three quarters of the way through part two. I got some quilt stuff in the mail today. The book looked interesting and I have two little projects to work on when it’s too cold to go out and play.
I started the dreaded thumb gusset on my gloves.
Quilting Along
September 10, 2008We had quite a bit of rain this afternoon. Is this rainstorm the remnants of a hurricane also? This one came rather quickly. I was sitting out back, happily knitting, when it started to pour. I have almost finished the contrast band and then it’s on to the dreaded thumb gusset.
I couldn’t decide where to begin on my quilt. I laid it out flat so that I could get a good overall look at it. All those diagonal blocks were a bit daunting. After looking at it for a while, I came up with a plan. It consists of seven parts. The main design is part one through four. I finished part one last night. It was the hardest and the most confusing. I had to stop several times to get my bearings. Currently, I am half way through part two and it’s easier than part one. Part three will take a little longer, but should not be as confusing as part one. Part four should be a piece of cake. Part five is the inner border. Part six is the other border which is all half squares and will probably take more time than the inner border. Part seven is the final binding which will also drive me crazy.
I am sorry for forgetting to include a picture of Mary yesterday. Thanks Christine.
