Something to Say

June 14, 2012

I turned on my laptop to blog, but I made the mistake of tyring to clean up a few things. Well, after three hours of dumping the trash, I’m too blurry-eyed. Maybe tomorrow.

Polyester—Not a Fan

June 11, 2012

How can something as simple as this:

Be such a pain in the ass to sew?  Why do I put myself through this?  I know that polyester and I do not get along.  I just wanted to try something different.  I should know better.  I am a cotton person.  You cut it.  You sew it.  You iron it.  It just lies there.  It makes me happy.  It doesn’t look like something a seven year old made!

I think I’ll go make myself a nice cotton nightie.

What was I Going to Say?

June 4, 2012

I sat down to write, but I had mail to read.  And then, I wanted to see what Otis and his brothers were up to.  Is it going to rain?  Should I go ahead and order that book everybody has been talking about?  What’s on TV tonight?  And on.  And on.  And on.  Oh, yeah.  I was going to blog about………. What?  Horse feathers.  I don’t know!!!

So this is what have I been up to:

  • The front band on my vest is almost finished.  It looks pretty good, but it made need a little tweaking before I give it to my daughter.  It’s been a fun knit.
  • I steamed five pounds of shrimp the other day.  After we had our fill, I peeled the rest for salad, shrimp fried rice and anything else I can think up.  We won’t be wanting shrimp again for a long time once we finish it.
  • I got shots in my knees this morning.  I’m already noticing a difference.  We’ll see after our walk tomorrow.
  • Dot has been giving Olive a hard time lately.  I think she doesn’t her picking on Flo or she just doesn’t like the noise.  Maybe she wants to be boss.  That’s fine with me.
  • My sock club came.  I’m not real thrilled with the colorway, but it will go with a lot of things.  I definitely like the sock pattern.  There is also a little shawl pattern that is kind of cute.  I’m not much on shawls.  They tend to wind up as cat beds.

Wow.  Not bad for not knowing what to say.  Was that a double negative?  Where’s an English teacher when you need one?

Always an atention getter.

Sometimes It’s Hard to Find a Place to Sit Around Here

May 28, 2012

My bed. My Skunkie. Go away!

No one wants to sit here anyway. It’s got about seven years of Gus hair on it.

It smells just like Sweetums!

And Cora has to sleep on the floor.

Front Band for Aztec Plaid Vest

May 27, 2012

I was happily knitting on the vest when I realized that the band just didn’t look right.  I worked several more inches hoping that it would look better.  But it didn’t.  It got worse.  What do I do?

What do I do?  Why, rip it out of course.  I only had to make one cut in the yarn and that was due to the two rows that had the same yarn in the patterning.  So, I could say that there were no unnecessary cuts.  When I finish this front I’ll make an attached band my way.

Except for two perennials, I’ve gotten all my flowers planted.  Now I can relax and enjoy them.  I still haven’t heard from the yard guy.  Does that mean I have to look for another?  Pook!

A Pedicure and A Haircut

May 24, 2012

It was humid and I had a headache.  It seemed like a great time to  get renewed.  I love the way Nancy tweaks my toes and feet.  I could almost go to sleep.  I really should go more often.  My toenails are now a lovely deep pink.  I’m not a pink person, but I was drawn to it for some reason.

Then it was on to the hair salon.  Ginny was on vacation, so I tried Kathy.  I was very happy with the results.  The back is very short and layered, but you can still see how thick my hair is.  The front is just long enough to tuck behind my ears.  It really looks good with my little round glasses, but I’m still ugly.

I finished the back of the vest and I’ve started on the front.  It has been so much fun.  I love watching the patterns develop and picking out the colors.  The pattern calls for five colors and I have nine or ten.

I really need to get back to sewing.  I bought some patterns that I haven’t touched.  Part of the problem is the lousy shrug pattern I bought.  I had to get out the Do Sew and completely redraw it.  The thing has been cut, but I haven’t sewn it yet.  I guess I am still aggravated with it.  I should just make something else.  I could use another nightie or two.  But, I am a finisher.  So there it sits, waiting to be finished.  And, well, there is a fire band on so that’s out.

Perturbed

May 22, 2012

I’m a mite perturbed right now.  So I stared out at the creek for a while to unwind.  How could this not make you smile?  Will I ever tire of it?

Mernie’s

May 21, 2012

I drove down to Mernie’s a few days ago to get local strawberries.  They are small, but the most delicious I’ve ever tasted.  Well.  I managed to spend around fifty dollars.  They also had local asparagus and those little red potatoes that go so well with just about anything.  The peaches were from South Carolina, but they looked good so I bought some.   Then, there were the flowers in the greenhouses.  So much fun all in one place!  I love life here.  Moving here was the best thing that Sweetums ever said to me.

Still Basking in the Joy that was Sheep and Wool

May 15, 2012

Yes.  I know it’s officially Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival,  but all you need to say in the tri-state area is Sheep and Wool and wool people know.  I didn’t take any pictures this year, but I took one of my loot when I got back to Reisterstown.  And, of course, after I got home I realized I noticed I didn’t include everything.  The Berroco books will have to wait.

I was happy to find the Japanese book that Gayle raved about, but there weren’t any pattern books to speak of.  I found a couple of stores on-line that have several.  Now, I must decide which ones.  The buttons are from Creatively Dyed Yarns.  And, you know what?  I didn’t buy any yarn from them this year.  This could be due to the fact that I had already bought yarn from three other stalls.  I am so glad that Signature Needle Arts is getting down to the smaller sizes in circulars.  I got a 3 and a 4 and I am hoping that 2 will be coming out soon.  I picked up a neat little needle case.  The fabric is pretty thin.  And, I can’t help but wonder how long it will last.  But, then I thought I could easily make another with sturdier fabric. I’ve spent as much on patterns.

The little cat was for my son.  I got cards from the two women who make the animals.  They do special orders and I think my daughter would a little Bo like her Maine Coon.
